BTS’ Jung Kook on ‘Dynamite,’ Loving ARMY, and Learning From Ariana Grande

& #x201C;We’ve known each other for so long,” J-Hope recently told BTS ‘ youngest member, Jung Kook , 23. “And I love how you haven’t changed at all.” More than any other member, Jung Kook grew up in BTS; he was only 15 when the group debuted in 2013, and he’d been famous for years by the time he graduated high school, with the other members attending the ceremony. With formidable singing and dancing skills, he’s always been a born pop star, with multiple agencies trying to recruit him as early as 2011. Since then, he’s more than fulfilled his promise, playing a key role on BTS’ biggest songs, including “Dynamite.” In a conversation from his label’s Seoul headquarters, where he wore a plain white sweatshirt with a matching white mask and a black bucket hat, he discussed making “Dynamite,” his vocal evolution, his Ariana Grande fandom, and more.

On the recent Let’s BTS TV special, I thought it was really beautiful when you were surprised with the videos of ARMY singing along to “Life Goes On,” and it looked like you were moved as well. Did it remind you of how much you missed seeing fans in person? I’m a person that really loves to be onstage and really loved hearing from our fans, so when our tour got canceled in March last year, it was a bit of a shock and it was kind of hard to take in. The roar of crowds and of ARMY is something we loved. And when we do TV programs or promotions, it gets our heart racing and makes us long for it more and more. And as you said, on Let’s BTS with the “Life Goes On” performance, when we heard ARMY taking part through the internet, that reminded us of the actual roar of the crowd. It made me miss it even more.

How has it affected you to essentially grow up within BTS? I started my trainee years when I was growing up, and one thing I think is a real blessing for me is I got to meet these wonderful, nice, good six members. I think I matured into a really good person that can be loved by a lot of people. I’m really grateful for the fact that other members, the older members, have given me a lot of feedback, positive or negative. I’m really grateful to have met them.

Do you ever wonder about what you may have missed from ordinary life? It’s true I couldn’t spend a lot of days at school, but I think I gained more than I lost. I sometimes felt envious of all my friends hanging out or going on a trip. Maybe those are the things that I missed. But again, I think I gained more than I’ve lost.

Was this past year maybe a chance to live more normally for you? Just because we didn’t have a lot of work compared to before, or just because we couldn’t go outside, it really didn’t mean we had ordinary life. We still had to be cautious of our behavior. And just because we couldn’t go on tours, it didn’t mean we could stop improving. So I tried to discover new things and I think I spent a relatively busy time inside. But I did have some time to really rearrange my emotions, and I think I grew up as a person as well.

People call you “golden” because you’re good at so many things. But as you’ve said before, that comes with a lot of pressure, doesn’t it? People say that I excel, that I’m an all-rounder. Of course I excel in some areas, but I don’t think it necessarily helps to bask in those talents and gifts. You can only improve in a certain area when you really practice, when you really try, when you deep-dive into it. So I really don’t want to think myself as an all-rounder. I just want to keep trying and working hard. And of course I do feel pressure, but those pressures can also drag me to work hard and do best at what I do.

You had offers from multiple agencies, but you chose Big Hit because of RM. What did you see in him? I can’t clearly remember what happened at the time, but I just simply thought that RM was really cool. At that time, I really didn’t know a lot about being a singer. But when I saw him rap, I just thought he was really, really cool and awesome. And I believe maybe it was fate that drew me to him.

I talked about this with J-Hope as well, but it’s very interesting to look at the early style of BTS, both the clothing and the music, and see how it evolved. What do you think when you look back at those early songs and videos? When we first debuted, we had kind of fierce makeup, with our eyeliner and stuff, and dark outfits, fierce-looking outfits. At that time, our company was relatively small and we couldn’t put a lot of budget into the outfits. But now we devote a lot of time and we hold a lot of meetings to choose the outfits and the style that would go well with the songs and the album. So I think the visual aspect is really important. The song, the dance — every individual aspect is really important.

Can you share some memories of recording “Dynamite”? I thought I was getting these lines out correctly and pronouncing them well, but as we were recording and practicing, I realized there were still things I needed to work on. My pronunciation was not that good. My tongue just wasn’t loose enough to really get these English words out! But the more we practiced, the more we sang, the song became more familiar, and became more natural. So it was a good learning experience for me.

The song “Euphoria” is one of your best moments. I know it’s already a few years ago, but what do you remember about putting that one together? I specifically like “Euphoria” among many BTS songs because it has a voice that’s between a very young boy and a very mature man. And that’s why I had a tough time recording it. I had to translate those emotions into the recording, and I went into it thinking that I have lost my original voice and I really didn’t know how to sing. And I think those emotions I felt translated well into the recording. After listening to the whole thing, I was like, “Wow, I really did a good job.”

What other artists have given you something to aspire to? If there is one moment that really stayed with me, it was when we went on one of our overseas tours, and I had a chance to go to an Ariana Grande concert. I was really impressed by her stage presence. She’s a very small person, and the volume of her singing and what she was able to do was really moving, really impressive. And it just seemed like something I wanted to emulate and learn from. It made me want to develop and continue to grow.

In general, I’ve tried to listen to a lot of different music. To really find the voice that I have right now, I listened to random music and just tried to sing along and learn how other artists sing.

The other guys have said that when you were young, when you first started, you were a little bit shy and introverted. What do you remember about that? [ Laughs ] During the training years, I’d wait until the other guys had fallen asleep so I could wash up by myself in the middle of the night. But I think time really solves everything. If you spend such a long time with the same people, it really affects your personalities. The other members had a lot of influence on me, and I could just feel comfortable because they are such good people. And they encouraged me to open up to them and mature into a good person.

Out of all these years so far, what has been the most mind-blowing moment? Topping the [U.S.] charts, being nominated for the Grammys, getting all those awards, were of course great honors and great experiences. But the best moment in my life, from when I was born until I die, is seeing ARMY from the stage. And that will never change.

BTS's Jungkook Makes History On Billboard's Artist 100 As 1st Korean Soloist To Chart For 20 Weeks

BTS ’s Jungkook is enjoying unprecedented success on the Billboard charts!

For the week of January 6, Jungkook’s solo debut album “GOLDEN” successfully remained in the top 50 of the Billboard 200, where it ranked No. 46 in its eighth consecutive week on the chart.

With this achievement, Jungkook is now the first Korean solo artist in history to spend eight weeks in the top 50 of the Billboard 200.

Jungkook has also become the first K-pop soloist ever to chart for 20 weeks on Billboard’s Artist 100 , where he held relatively steady at No. 35 this week.

Meanwhile, Jungkook’s title track “ Standing Next to You ” spent its eighth consecutive week on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 97, in addition to staying strong at No. 5 on the Digital Song Sales chart (making it the fifth best-selling song of the week in the United States).

Outside of the Billboard 200, “GOLDEN” climbed back up to No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Current Album Sales chart and No. 13 on the Top Album Sales chart in its eighth week on both charts.

Jungkook also continued to chart multiple songs on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, which measures weekly plays on mainstream Top 40 radio stations across the United States. His The Kid LAROI and Central Cee collab “ Too Much ” ranked No. 19, “ 3D ” (featuring Jack Harlow) held steady at No. 22, and “Standing Next to You” rose to a new peak of No. 34 in its second week on the chart.

Finally, Jungkook maintained a strong presence on both of Billboard’s global charts this week. On Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart, Jungkook’s “ Seven ” (featuring Latto) came in at No. 22, “Standing Next to You” at No. 25, and “3D” at No. 52. On the Global 200, “Standing Next to You” charted at No. 42, “Seven” at No. 44, and “3D” at No. 82.

Who is BTS Jungkook?

Jungkook Career   

At the age of just 13, BTS Jungkook auditioned for the TV talent show ‘Superstar K’, but unfortunately, he was not selected. However, he did not give up and received offers from eight different talented organizations before ultimately being signed by Big Hit Entertainment. At the age of 14, he began learning dance from Movement Lifestyle, and in 2013, he joined BTS and made his debut with the song ‘No More Dream’ for their album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’. Since then, he has released numerous hit songs and albums with his bandmates and has performed in many stage shows, touring several countries. 

The band’s success is evident from their massive fan following and worldwide popularity, as well as the numerous awards they have received, including the Melon Music Award, Golden Disk Award, Seoul Music Award, and Bonsang Award. 

In addition to his work with BTS , Jungkook has collaborated with other Korean artists and political leaders on the song ‘One Dream One Korea’, which highlights the connection between South Korea and North Korea and the desire for the unification of the two countries. He also appeared in Jo Kwon’s music video for ‘I’m Da One’ in 2012.

Personal Life   

Jeon Jeong-guk, who is famously known as BTS Jungkook, was born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, South Korea. He attended Baek Yang Middle school and later went on to study at Seoul School of Performing Arts, from where he graduated in February 2017. In addition to his love for music, he also has a keen interest in drawing and playing games, particularly soccer. 

He resides with his parents and his older brother, Jung Hyun, but aside from this, there isn’t much information available about his family.

Commendations : Currently 23 songs have been attributed to him as a writer and composer by KOMCA and he is now a full member as of January 2023 ( 1 ). He is a  recipient of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation (2016), Presidential Commendation (2017) Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit (5th class) (2018) Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture (2021) Game Changer Award by Asia Society (2020) James A. Van Fleet Award by The Korea Society (2020). 

Currently: completing mandatory military service, he is due to be discharged 11th June 2025.

Pre – debut

Jung-kook was born on 1st September 1997, in Busan, South Korea. While growing up in Busan he attended Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in Busan. Then, when he became a trainee, he transferred to Singu Middle School in Seoul.

From an early age Jungkook was interested in performing and aged 13 In 2011 he auditioned for the South Korean talent show Superstar K which were being held in Daegu. He received casting offers from seven entertainment companies despite not being selected. He eventually chose to become a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment, he has openly said that he chose this small almost bankrupt company because he had seen RM perform and was inspired by him. Jungkook was still very young and he entered the training process at Big Hit and for that training he also spent a month in the summer of 2012 in the US working on his dancing skills under the company Movement Lifestyle. Along with his fellow band members,  he then appeared in other musical acts as background dancers. Jungkook was very young and shy and sometimes found it difficult to express himself, something that he has worked hard to overcome and now he is affectionately known as ‘stage commander’ due to his amazing skills in performing.

On the 3rd of February Jimin hinted at something coming  and although we can’t see them clearly we now know that the other members with him were Jungkook and Jhope. We later found out that they had filmed a song for Jungkook’s graduation.

His first twitter post was on 7th February ( 1 )  in relation to the release of his Blog  highlighting his trip to the US the previous summer. 

His first solo log was on the day of his middle school graduation ( 130208) which all of the members attended and for which 3J released Jungkook’s graduation song .

“We do make sure that one person doesn’t stand out. But then, we are really unique. We all have our style, so I think we all stand out. We each have our own roles and positions in the band, and then we work together to make sure we all try hard for the Army.”

On 4th June 2013 Jungkook was officially introduced as a member of BTS as Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Sub Rapper, Centre and Maknae.  Along with the other members Jungkook officially debuted on 13th June 2013.Jungkook has never been a heavy user of social media and even from the very start he rarely posted on twitter. He did however show his artistic side and has often uploaded various art work or videos that he has made using GCF (Golden Closet Films). Jungkook deleted his personal Instagram page when it had 50 million subscribers indicating that social media is not important to him. He instead likes to speak to his fans through doing lives on the company’s social media platform Weverse where he spends his time talking to fans, singing karaoke or watching videos with them.

 Jungkook  graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul  in 2017. In March 2022, he received his degree from Global Cyber University’s Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment. He was awarded the President’s Award, the school’s highest honour. Jungkook has achieved many records since he debuted and he became the second Korean soloist to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jungkook also made history as being the first Korean soloist to perform the Football World Cup song in 2022.

Jeon jungkook is called busan prince.

Born on 1 September 1997 in Busan, South Korea, Jungkook is the youngest member of BTS, earning him the moniker Golden Maknae. He holds the positions of the official centre, the main vocalist, sub rapper and lead dancer.

Often referred to as Busan Prince by fans and people from his hometown, Jungkook moved to Seoul at the end of 2010 to become a trainee and attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul. His schoolmates included SinB and Umji of GFriend.

7 music labels approached Jungkook before his debut

In 2011, Jungkook participated in the popular Mnet audition programme, SuperStar K Season 3 but never made it to the finals. Despite that, his rendition of 2AM’s “This Song” managed to grab the attention of major music labels in Korea, including Big Hit Entertainment.

During a guest appearance on a 2017 episode of Mnet’s New Yang Nam Show , the BTS singer shared that after his audition, he received calls from around “seven different agencies.”

Jungkook joined BTS because of RM

While JYP Entertainment, FNC Entertainment, TS Entertainment and many other entertainment companies wanted to sign Jungkook, he opted for Big Hit Entertainment. The reason? His love and admiration for the BTS leader Kim Namjoon aka RM, who was an underground rapper back then going by the stage name Runch Randa.

Jungkook has revealed in numerous interviews that when he was living in Busan, he didn’t know a lot of musicians. But he was enamoured by RM’s rapping skills and wanted to know his company.

When he participated in Superstar K , he came across Big Hit’s owner Bang Si-hyuk and learned that RM was a trainee there. A 15-year-old Jungkook then made up his mind to work alongside his inspiration and chose to join the Seoul-based label.

His stage name

The K-pop idol has revealed in numerous interviews that his stage name was almost ‘Seagull’ — a reference to the official bird of Busan. However, he decided to use his real name ‘Jeon Jeongguk’, but later altered the spelling to ‘Jungkook’.

Jungkook can play multiple instruments

The BTS heartthrob loves to learn to play new instruments and never fails to impress. He is good with the guitar and drums and often shows off his skills on various BTS reality shows as well as their concerts. Jungkook also entertains BTS Army — the band’s loyal group of fans — by playing the guitar during his live streams.

Jungkook’s beatboxing skills

Jungkook is the king of setting new records with his live streams.

The BTS singer’s 2021 appearance on the South Korean streaming app, Vlive garnered more than 22 million viewers in just 1 hour and 18 minutes. It has the highest recorded real-time views for an individual livestream on the platform.

Jungkook also holds the record for the top four most real-time views for an individual livestream on Weverse — a fan community platform developed by Weverse Company, a subsidiary platform company of HYBE.

The singer’s 2023 Weverse live stream on 1 February broke the record for the most real-time views for an individual on the platform in history, with over 16.3 million views. His livestream the same night holds second place, with over 12.4 million real-time views.

While his Weverse live stream on 3 February 2023 recorded a total of 10 million views, his birthday livestream in 2022 had over 9.5 million real-time views.

First Korean to perform at FIFA World Cup in Qatar

The “Dynamite” hitmaker is the first Korean artist to perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Apart from being part of the World Cup Soundtrack “Dreamers” with Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi, Jungkook also performed the song at the opening ceremony of the prestigious sporting event. Thanks to this, in January 2023, he became the first Asian act to have a live performance surpassing 100M views on YouTube.

A passionate visual artist

Did you know Jungkook’s artistic bent goes beyond his musical talents?

While the singer showcased his painting skills during the group’s reality TV series BTS In The Soop, in 2018, he also created the album cover art for Suga’s “Seesaw x I NEED U Remix” — a proof of his graphic design skills.

‘A.R.M.Y’ was Jeon Jungkook’s first tattoo

The BTS singer has been covering the back of his right hand and sleeve with new inks for a while now. In one of his Weverse lives, the “Still With You” crooner finally gave Army a tour of his tattoos.

Jungkook shared that the first tattoo he got was ‘A.R.M.Y.’ He inked it on his knuckles as he is proud of the BTS fandom and so wanted the symbol in a visible spot. He then gave fans a detailed explanation about his crown tattoo, his birth flower tattoo and the rest.

The South Korean idol also revealed that he has his birth time inked in between his other tattoos.

Obsessed with video games and his pet dog Bam

Jungkook’s love for video games is so deep that he once wanted to be a professional gamer.

The singer is a big fan of the multiplayer first-person shooter game Overwatch . He has also been spotted playing video games like Pyke, Teamfight Tactics and StarCraft on multiple occasions.

And for all those admirers who are curious to know about the love of his life, it is his pet Jeon Bam. The latter is a Doberman and was revealed through JK’s lock-screen wallpaper during his Vlive on 31 August 2021. Bam was officially introduced to the world in the first episode of BTS In the Soop season 2.

Fans often call him Daddy

Besides Golden Maknae, Jungkook has some of the most interesting nicknames.

Fans also refer to him as Golden Boy, JK, Kookie, Jungkookie, Muscle Pig, Bunny and even Daddy. The last one has a special place in the hearts of his fans. So much so, that after his March 2023 campaign with Calvin Klein as the brand’s global ambassador, the hashtag “Daddy” trended for hours on Twitter.

In the book, “BTS: The Review”, it is written that Jungkook has perfect pitch by music critic and Korean Music Awards committee member, Kim Youngdae. The producer of the BTS song, “I Need U”, Brother Su, stated, “Personally, I was truly surprised at Jungkook for his vocal tone and perfect pitch.” In addition, Lim Hyung Joo, an operatic pop singer and Grammy Awards selection member, said that he was impressed by Jungkook’s “vocal technique, perfect pitch, and pure voice”. Countless other music industry professionals have also commented on Jungkook’s absolute pitch ability.

Most recently, Charlie Puth who also has absolute pitch, confirmed that Jungkook has this rare talent in multiple radio interviews in 2022. Charlie Puth stated: “(Jungkook) has perfect pitch too” and “he has such a distinctly good ear. He picks up on notes really well, so that was very impressive.” He also said, “I was like sing this note (without any reference point) and he sang it perfectly” and “I just fell in love with his voice.” In an interview with 104.1 KRBE FM radio in August of 2022, Charlie Puth confirmed Jungkook’s absolute pitch ability once again, stating: “I was just so fascinated with his voice. I thought (Jungkook) has to have some sort of absolute/perfect pitch. Because he’s hitting every note that I hit on cue. Then finding out 5 years later, that he actually does and is just really shy and didn’t want to tell me that.” In an interview with FM100 Memphis in August of 2022, Charlie Puth said: “I was always so fascinated how he was able to hit every note so perfectly and I always wondered, ‘I wonder if he has perfect pitch too’…and I found out when we filmed the video that he did in fact have that because he was able to recall any note without hearing anything before it which is the definition of having that, so I became immediately more fascinated.”

At the young age of 15, Jungkook was selected to be the official Main Vocalist of BTS. Jungkook is the only Main Vocalist of BTS. The Main Vocalist is the highest singing position in the group and is the member who is considered to be the best singer. The Main Vocalist usually receives the majority of the lines in songs, does most of the ad libs and harmonies, and has the most solo singing parts. As the Main Vocalist, Jungkook has the most advanced singing technique, an incredibly wide vocal range, the most versatility, and is recognized as the strongest singer during live performances. Known as a musical prodigy with perfect pitch, Jungkook received offers from 7 different entertainment companies before joining Big Hit at the age of 13. Jungkook received no prior vocal training before joining the company. Since the Main Vocalist is such an important position, it comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility and hard work. In 2016, Jungkook appeared on the television show, “King of Masked Singer”, and represented the band as the Main Vocalist. Jungkook explained that he went on the show to prove his vocal abilities. Billboard even described this as a “pivotal” moment for Jungkook. His performance completely shocked and amazed the judges, and helped him to gain recognition as one of the most talented singers in the music industry.

In a 2021 interview from “You Quiz on the Block”, Jungkook described the pressure he felt to debut as the Main Vocalist at such a young age: “After I debuted, I was the Main Vocalist…I had to show improvements and accomplishments. I thought that the only person who could act and make a change was myself. From that moment, I deleted the idea of a vocal training hour in my head. In the car, in the shower, of the 24 hours a day, I tried to sing and was singing during every possible minute.”

Jungkook was selected to be the official Center of BTS, at the age of only 15. Jungkook is the only Center of BTS. The Center is the highest performance position in the group and is the member who is considered to have the most stage presence. The Center is in the front and center spot of the formation the most during dance performances, and is recognized for being one of the best dancers in the group. Jungkook is known for his high level of energy on stage during live performances, for being very visually attractive, having excellent performance skills (such as incredible facial expressions and maintaining powerful eye contact with the camera), and for his remarkable ability to captivate the audience. RM of BTS once said to Jungkook that the Center position is his “fate”.

The role of the Center goes beyond the stage and is also the member who appears in the center spot the most during photoshoots, official video announcements, and at red carpet events. Since the Center is such an important position, it comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility and pressure. Jungkook’s passion for performing and his dedication to this role is demonstrated by his continuous hard work. On tour, he is the member who wakes up the earliest to practice, and he even stays the longest after their shows to rehearse. The stage director for BTS stadium tours, Han Eun Young, stated: “Jungkook would always rehearse. Jungkook made me remember him most because he was always the last artist in the rehearsals.”

Son Sungdeuk, the dance choreographer and performance director for BTS, revealed how Jungkook was chosen as the official Center in multiple interviews over the years. He stated, “the most talented one is Jungkook”. Son Sungdeuk also said that out of all of the BTS members, he chose Jungkook to travel with him to the USA for a month of dance training before their debut, because he believed that he had the most potential. He added: “The result was phenomenal. When he came back to Korea, that’s when his potential really exploded. He has many talents so he keeps us expecting more for the future.”

Jungkook was selected to be the official Lead Dancer of BTS, at the age of only 15. Jungkook is the only Lead Dancer of BTS. The Lead Dancer is recognized as one of the top dancers in the group and is one of the members who receives solo dance parts. Jungkook is known as a very powerful dancer, with mesmerizing stage presence. Although Jungkook had no prior dance training before joining the company, he was chosen to be in the official dance sub-unit of BTS, “3J”, with J-Hope and Jimin. The “3J” sub-unit does special performances together. RM of BTS said that Jungkook is “one of the best dancers in the team” and that “he’s so powerful.” Son Sungdeuk, the dance choreographer and performance director for BTS, stated: “Jungkook has great power, and his lines are beautiful when he dances, and he himself knows what’s pretty.”

Jungkook was selected to be the official Sub Rapper of BTS, at the age of 15. Jungkook is the only member who is officially part of both the vocal and rap lines. The Sub Rapper occasionally receives solo rap parts in songs and fills in for the rappers when they are absent. Jungkook is known for being an excellent rapper and for his extremely fast rapping skills. In the early days of BTS, he rapped more often in their music. Yankie, the rap teacher for BTS, stated: “I taught SUGA, J-Hope, and Jungkook often. There were many times I was shocked at how fast Jungkook was able to absorb everything.”

Jungkook is the official “Face of the Group” in BTS. The “Face of the Group” is the most popular and well known member, who represents the group. Since their debut in 2013, Jungkook has been the most popular BTS member, both in the USA and worldwide.

Jungkook is recognized for his tremendous impact and is known as the “Sold Out King”, since his merchandise is always the fastest to sell out (often in just seconds), he sells out everything he wears or any item that he is seen with in just minutes, and he holds the record for the most expensive K-Pop photocards ever sold in history. On the world’s top social media platform, TikTok, Jungkook holds the record for being the most viewed individual hashtag of any solo artist in history, with billions of views. As a result, Jungkook is known as the “TikTok King”. Jungkook is also known as the “Worldwide It boy” for his remarkable popularity on social media, and for consistently trending at number one in both the USA and worldwide. On Twitter, Jungkook holds the record for having the most tweets out of any person in history to he included in the top most liked list. Jungkook also holds the record for having the most viewed real-time views for any individual livestream in history.

In fact, the overall most searched K-Pop Idol across all platforms for the past five years is Jungkook, both in the USA and worldwide. In 2022, Jungkook was named the most famous K-Pop Idol in the USA, according to the Netizen Report Magazine. Jungkook is also the highest ranking and most popular BTS member, worldwide, according to the 2022 Global Hallyu Trends Survey. On September 4th 2022, the News International reported that “Jungkook remains the most beloved member and face of the very popular K-Pop boy band BTS.”

Jungkook’s incredible power and positive influence has been called “the Jungkook Effect” by the media. Jungkook chooses to support small businesses, with the hope that his fans will also support them. As a result of his impact, various small businesses have been able to grow and thrive. In a 2021 Interview with Weverse Magazine, Jungkook commented on the challenging times that many small businesses were having during the pandemic. He said, “If I’ve had an effect on one person, it is worthwhile.” During a 2021 livestream, Jungkook humbly acknowledged his influence by saying: “I thought that I could be of a small help to the small businesses around us. And I was so grateful for the fans for making this happen.”

Jungkook is a skilled musician, who plays the piano, drums, and guitar. In 2015, Jungkook was credited for playing the piano on the BTS song “Outro: Love is Not Over”, which he produced. In 2020, Jungkook revealed that he had taught himself how to play the guitar in the BTS series, “In the Soop”. During the 2021 “MusiCares: Music on a Mission” virtual concert, Jungkook surprised his fans by playing the drums during a performance of the BTS song, “Dynamite”.

Jungkook also has a talent in choreography. He has contributed to some of the dance choreography for BTS, including part of “21st Century Girls” and part of “Just One Day”. In 2021, it was also revealed that Jungkook choreographed most of the dance to his solo song, “My Time”.

Jungkook is an incredibly talented athlete, with talents that include: boxing, swimming, running, martial arts, wrestling, basketball, archery, and more. He is known for being the most athletic member of BTS, for being remarkably strong, and for his excellent athletic physique. Jungkook especially enjoys boxing and he has even posted multiple videos of himself training online. In addition, Jungkook is very skilled in martial arts and has a black belt in Taekwondo. 

Jungkook is a massive global superstar, yet he still continues to be an incredibly humble and kind person. Jungkook is known for having a beautiful and pure heart. He is often praised for his excellent manners and his polite nature. The media has even named him the “Greeting Fairy”, since he always bows 90 degrees when greeting the press, his fans, and others. Recognized for his philanthropic acts, the media has reported that Jungkook often donates privately to charities and supports various important causes, including: children’s hospitals, animal welfare, human rights, disaster relief, environmental protection, education, and cultural heritage preservation.

Everyone who has met Jungkook has reported that he is one of the kindest and most humble individuals that they have ever encountered. Countless stories and videos have emerged of Jungkook’s acts of kindness, such as: being the only one to help a girl who was being bullied in school, offering to help a makeup artist carry her bags, bringing slippers to a director who was standing outside barefoot, regularly giving fans water, turning his own heater towards his fans, staying after a show to help the staff clear the stage, helping the staff to clean up trash, etc. A staff member who worked with Jungkook in 2020 described him as: “Truly the purest of all purity…(he) bowed down to all the staff in the end before leaving” and “a polite person who takes care of people very well.” At a 2018 BTS concert in Paris, some fans fainted and Jungkook stepped off the stage to follow security and give them water bottles. At a 2019 BTS concert in Paris, Jungkook risked his own safety by jumping into the crowd to greet a fan in a wheelchair. In 2022, Jungkook sent his fans in Qatar water bottles, since they were waiting for him outside in the sun for a long time.

At the 2016 DMC Festival, Jungkook literally saved a man’s life and became a real-life hero. The host of the event, Kim Sung Joo, fell into a stage lift that he didn’t realize had been lowered. Jungkook immediately rushed to catch the host and protected him from the fall. To this day, Jungkook has never spoken publicly about his heroic act and fans only discovered what took place when the host told his story on television. Kim Sung Joo stated: “Jungkook actually saved my life once. I almost died…I was walking backward and I just fell inside the lift. I say thank you to him every time I see BTS.”

Over the years, Jungkook has also continuously risked his own safety to protect his fellow band members from the crowd at airports. Jungkook often acts as a bodyguard, shielding the members, and guiding them into the car before he gets in himself. The members of BTS have spoken about Jungkook’s incredible kindness and his compassionate heart. V stated, “(Jungkook) always helps others around him when they are having it hard.” He also said to Jungkook, “How tender-hearted you are.” RM stated, “Jungkook’s heart is all soft and tender.” Jimin said to Jungkook, “You are so precious.” J-Hope and Suga also commented that Jungkook has a “big heart” during the 2019 BTS Festa. In 2023, Suga also stated that Jungkook is the member who cries the most, due to his incredibly soft and warm heart. In 2017, Jin commented on Jungkook’s extraordinary generosity. He mentioned that out of all the BTS members, Jungkook is the one who sacrifices himself the most. Jin stated, “It’s definitely Jungkook.” In 2022, Charlie Puth even referred to Jungkook as “sweet JK.”

Jungkook has a genuine love and appreciation for his fans. He writes beautiful songs for his fans, dedicates love songs to them, writes them sweet letters, always takes the time to greet them, spends hours interacting with them and singing for them on livestreams, and he even has the BTS fandom name, “ARMY”, tattoed on his hand. Jungkook wrote and produced one of the most beloved BTS songs, “Magic Shop”, for the fans and he also wrote his beloved solo songs, ‘Still With You’ and ‘My You’ for them. Jungkook shares a very deep bond with his fans and often sheds tears while expressing his love for them. Jungkook once said to his fans on stage, “I don’t think I can live without you.” During a 2019 livestream, Jungkook said to his fans: “You are the basis of my life…ARMYs are everything. My everything.” In a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Jungkook stated, “The best moment of my life is seeing ARMY from the stage and that will never change.”

Beyond the group, Jungkook has his own rapidly growing fandom as a solo artist. In a 2023 survey conducted on Weibo, approximately half of Jungkook’s fans became part of his solo fandom in 2022 and 2023. Jungkook refers to all of his fans as “My Fans” or “My ARMY”. While “ARMY” is the official fandom name for BTS, Jungkook includes his individual fans in this name. Since Jungkook only recently debuted as a solo artist, there is no official name for his solo fans yet. Jungkook’s own fans are often called “Jungkookies” or “Kookies” by the media, radio DJs, record labels, etc. Other names are “JJKs” or “Jungkook ARMY”. This is Jungkook’s own solo fandom, which is separate from BTS. In November 2023, Jungkook released his own brand as a solo artist, “Jung Kook: the Brand”. Jungkook has also exprssed his desire, on multiple occasions, to continue his solo career in the future.

Over the years, Jungkook has acknowledged and thanked both his solo fansites and solo fanbases, (some of his biggest and most dedicated supporters), and referred to them as “my fans - my ARMY”. In 2019, Jungkook placed his hand over his heart, bowed, and said “thank you” to his fanbase, (Jungkook China), for organizing a video support ad for him at the KBS Song Festival. At a fan signing, Jungkook once said: “If you’re my fan - If you support me and like my music, then I love you.” In 2023, Jungkook defined his own fans as: anyone “who loves and supports” him. Jungkook said, “I’d rather focus on working hard for the fans who do love me and support me.” Jungkook also stated: “I love the ones who love me. I wouldn’t love people who say bad things about me. I work for those who support me”. He added, “I’m going to keep trying my best for the people who love me. I can promise you that won’t ever change.”

Jungkook is known for his compassionate heart and his love for animals. In 2021, Jungkook and his dog, Bam, were featured on the BTS series, “In the Soop.” Their sweet interactions and Jungkook’s tender caring for Bam won the hearts of fans all around the world. There have been many heartwarming moments of Jungkook with animals captured on camera. One special moment is a video of Jungkook holding and petting a chicken so gently, that the chicken fell asleep in his hands. Jungkook also mentioned that his beloved family dog, Gureum, was an abandoned dog that was rescued, and has shown his support for a charity that protects abandoned animals.

10 His Talent Was Once Shut Down

BTS is one of the most successful boy bands of all time and have gained worldwide notoriety. When it comes to success, fame, and fortune, Jungkook has absolutely nothing to prove, yet this wasn't always the case.  K Pop Herald reports that his talent was denied and shut down in 2011,when he auditioned for Super Star K's Season 3.

He wasn't able to make it to the finals and was told his skills weren't honed inn. He ended up receiving offers from other agencies, one of which was Big Hit Entertainment. His rise to fame didn't come without his fair share of heartache, but fans are glad he stuck it through!

9 He Has Interesting Hobbies

Fans really want to know what their favorite stars are up to in their spare time, and when it comes to Jungkook's life at home, he loves to unwind with some movies.
