Homework

Homework is a feature that allows teachers to assign work to students for them to work independently, instead of competing with one another. This is very useful for both users as the teachers don't have to be there and the student may go at their own pace.

The current game modes able to be assigned as homework are, Tower of Doom , Tower Defense , Cafe , Factory , Crazy Kingdom and Monster Brawl (Including Halloween Version). All of these game modes are also able to be soloed , meaning you cannot play Flappy Blook , Racing , Classic , Crypto Hack , Fishing Frenzy , Blook Rush , Battle Royale , Santa's Workshop , Pirate's Voyage , Gold Quest and Candy Quest (Gold Rush Reskin/Halloween Retextured). If a teacher wants to assign homework they may set a finishing goal (like reaching wave 30 on TD, 1M cash in Factory). If you do not finish the goal and instead fail, then the homework ends. There is also an option to decide the available time of the homework. The homework cannot be done after the available time set. The maximum available time is 14 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes, 365 Days (1 Year) for plus. If you close the homework and want to reassign again, just click Reopen and it is already saved.

HomeworkExample

How to assign homework [ ]

Step 1 - Go to discover or dashboard , click "host" on any set you wish to assign homework to.

Step 2 - Choose Tower of Doom , Tower Defense , Cafe , Factory , Crazy Kingdom or Monster Brawl , as these are the current game modes you can assign homework. Once you have choose your game mode, click 'HW'.

Step 3 - Before you can assign your homework, you can change the homework details, like when the homework ends, the title of the homework, or to allow student accounts. Depending on the game mode, you set the finishing goal. Once you're done, click assign now.

Step 4 - After you have assigned your homework, you need to copy a link that lets students play the homework. If you scroll down, you can see each of the student's performance and progress. You can also choose to extend the homework due date by how many days.

And that is how to Assign Homework for students.

Blooket activates learning through play. Its games compel students to dive into course content, promoting comprehension and retention. But simply enabling a round of Blooket is not enough — teachers must utilize its full suite of customization tools deliberately. Tailor question sets and game modes to current lessons, and choose settings that maximize participation and interactivity. With purposeful implementation, Blooket shifts from just an entertaining diversion to an impactful instructional aide. The difference comes down to understanding and unlocking all its capabilities for your classroom’s needs.

How to Play Blooket – A Teachers Tutorial

Blooket  is a free online gaming platform that allows you to build your content or pick from a selection of content options provided by the team behind Blooket and engage your students in fun, entertaining, but educational-focused manner. Getting familiar with this website (it’s an excellent alternative to  Gimkit  with different games) and using it as a reward or to emphasis past content.

Blooket has a large number of resources to help you teach your students. As an educator, you can use this website to create vocabulary sets, trivia games, quests, and quizzes. Students outside of class can also use Blooket’s educational games to review past information or discover new facts. The primary age group for this platform is elementary, but you can customize the content for older students.

Create a free Blooket account

The first step is to go ahead and create a free account with your preferred email account here . It’s a simple process that takes a few minutes. Check your email, verify your account, and use a password you’ll remember easily to save time trying to log in to class.

Once you sign up you’ll be looking at a dashboard for your account. Here you can either create sets or discover sets :

homework in blooket

Create a Set

The create a set function allows you to form your questions and is perfect if you’re looking for an interactive way for your students to study and review material at home. You can also use the “create a set” feature to create homework and assignments for your students to complete as a compliment to whatever lesson material you’re teaching.

homework in blooket

If you want to create your own Blooket set material, click on the tab that says “Create a Set,” It will take you to a template page where you can fill in the set’s title, description, and pictures. Next, it’s time to add some questions.

Questions are in multiple-choice format and have a user-friendly layout that allows you to input which response is correct from the four options. You may also set a  time limit  for each question to make it more difficult and add images to make it visually appealing.

One of the best features of Blooket.com is that all the content teachers create is available and accessible to other instructors. Once you’ve completed and published your set, it becomes part of the library, allowing other teachers to discover and utilize it in their classrooms.

Discover Sets

“Discover sets” are premade Blooket sets. This feature is perfect if you’re looking for a fun reward system to use in class if your students finish an activity, quiz, or class test. The discover sets are also an excellent choice if you’re currently doing online remote learning and need a quick activity.

One of the most popular games is the “name that logo” set. It’s fun to test your student’s knowledge of various company brands, services, and companies. It’s also helpful to leverage as an onboarding mechanism for you and your students how Blooket works.

Once you navigate this section here, choose a game that you and your students find the most appealing or one that compliments your current lesson material. Once you select a game, you must choose a game mode.

Game modes in Blooket explained

homework in blooket

Once you choose a set, you must select the game mode. Off to the right on the screen, it will describe what the game mode entails. With all game modes, you can set it based on time or obtaining a specific score, number, or quantity amount (depending on the game). We’ve found the time limit to be the most useful in class to keep things moving and suggest a time limit of 4 to 7 minutes.

Here is a quick overview of some of the most popular game options:

Up to 60 players can join this game mode, but having at least three or more players is best. Your students answer questions correctly and earn gold. Students can also take gold from other players, so there is a bit of luck and strategy involved in this game mode.

Fishing frenzy

Ideal for two players or more, students answer questions and throw out reels to reel in fish. In this mode, you can set it as time-based in that students need to reel in fish quickly, and the student who has the most fish wins, or you can base it on weight, with the heaviest fist being the farthest away from the players and the most difficult to reel in.

Crypto hack

In this mode, players “mine” crypto and hack other players’ defenses to steal their crypto. No luck is involved in this game mode; instead, players are rewarded for answering questions correctly and quickly.

Battle royal

The royal battle mode sets players one on one or teams vs. teams. You can break up the course into two teams in class, and each team has to pick one team member to go up against one individual from the other team. That way, each student participates on an individual level.

It sounds boring, but the cafe mode is fun because your students compete by answering the question correctly and getting supplies for their cafes. With supplies, they can keep customers happy and buy upgrades to level up their cafe.

Tower defense and the tower of doom

These last two options are homework-only games the students complete independently. Assigning homework allows students to play a game on their own time. You’ll be given a Game ID valid for a fixed period when you host. Then, when your students use this Game ID, they can play the game and answer questions. Then you’ll get real-time updates on their progress and performance.

Hosting a game

Once you’ve selected a Blooket set that you like, as well as a game mode, it’s time to go ahead and launch your game. As your Blooket location is loading, you’ll be given a game ID that your students can use to join your fun:

homework in blooket

This game ID is essential to take note of, particularly when assigning homework. You’ll need to share this ID with your students so they can either join the game or complete your Blooket set for their assignment.

Assigning homework in Blooket

As we just mentioned with the Tower Defense game and the Tower of Doom game, you can create sets or use premade groups with a built-in homework mode. When you choose a game mode, you must select a game with a homework mode, where you are taken to a page where you can set a due date/time and a goal. The objective is either a specific amount of minutes spent playing or money earned in the game.

How do I assign a question set as homework for students to do on their own?

First, choose a question set by finding one in the “Discover tab” or creating one in the “Create tab” and then view it in your Dashboard. Now, click Host on this question set and select the Tower of Doom, Factory, Crazy Kingdom, Tower Defense, or CafĂ© mode, as these game modes currently have homework options.

Then, click “Assign HW,” and it will walk you through the process. Finally, it will give you a link that students can click to play the game on their own time. They only have to click the link; they don’t need an account, as Blooket only allows users 13 years or older to create accounts.

How do I check homework that is assign in Blooket?

homework in blooket

In your Blooket dashboard, you’ll see a “homework” option in the sidebar. There you can view what students engaged with and completed the assignment and their overall performance. As you can set the homework to be done in a specific amount of time, students must show some responsibility and complete the task as required.

How do I share a question set I’ve created with another teacher?

With Blooket, you can assign a set you created to another teacher. First, navigate to your dashboard and find the set you want to share. Then, click on the gear icon to the right of the trash can. You’ll then see a “link” option.

Click the Link button, and it’ll copy the link for you to share. If the Link button does not appear, it is because your set is currently set to “private,” You must click the pencil icon to edit the privacy settings and make it public.

Blooket is a great learning tool for students

Blooket is simple and easy to use in the classroom or home as homework, with no extra equipment or login information required. Students must log into their accounts and input the game ID for the activity or assignment their teacher assigned.

Students may also use Blooket independently and play online games with their favorite game modes in various disciplines. This sort of gaming-based lesson material for young learners is engaging from a student perspective and helps the teacher make content your students will love.

Blooket for teachers’ conclusion

Blooket is simple to use in the classroom or at home for students. All they need to do is enter the game ID for the game mode of their choice for your students or that of an assigned Blooket set as homework. Then all your students need to do is add their nickname, and they’re off.

No user names or passwords are required. This is important if you’re using Blooket for students under 13. When you create a set and select a game mode, uncheck “Allow Student Accounts” so your young learners won’t be prompted to create a Blooket account, as users under 13 years old are not permitted to create one.

If you’re using this website with students 14 years or older, it’s your call if you want them to have their accounts. Otherwise, what are you waiting for? If this is your first time learning about Blooket, try it out in your classroom. You and your students will love it.

Hosting a Blooket Game

To initiate a game, it’s necessary to select a question set. These can either be personally created or ones that others have made public. Select the desired game mode, each has its unique setup and rules.

Once defined, a game code is generated and shared with players. They then enter this code on their devices to join the game. Spectators are also permitted to watch the ongoing game but cannot participate actively.

It’s also possible to set a timer for the game creating an added element of urgency and strategy. Fair play is maintained as Blooket also has features to kick out players should they behave inappropriately during the game.

English/Language enthusiasts can also enable a censorship filter to screen out indecent language.

Playing a Blooket Game

Joining a Blooket game is simple, requiring just a few steps. First, the host provides a game pin, which players enter on the Blooket website or app. After entering this pin, players type in their chosen usernames. Once everyone is ready, the host initiates the game.

Playing the game involves answering multi-choice questions correctly within a time limit. Each correct response earns virtual currency or points, depending on the game mode. Visual cues signal whether answers are right or wrong, and a leaderboard displays player rankings throughout the game.

Some game modes offer additional strategic elements, like power-ups or tools for coping with challenging topics. Using these effectively can provide a competitive edge and make gameplay more dynamic.

Rapid question answering and strategic use of game features become essential for advancing in the leaderboard, reinforcing learning in an enjoyable, challenging manner.

Assigning Blooket Games As Homework

Firstly, identify the educational content you’d want to reinforce; this should form the basis of your Blooket homework task. Following that, create or select a pre-existing question set related to this content.

To set it up as a homework assignment, click on the “Assign Homework” button on the game’s main page. This will redirect you to a new page that will allow you to set a start date, an end date and the game mode for your specific homework assignment. Remember, it’s crucial to choose the appropriate game mode conducive to the learning objectives of your homework.

Once you’ve completed these steps, click on “Assign Homework” at the bottom of the page. Your students will be able to access the homework assignment using the unique game code generated by Blooket. You can share this code via email or through your learning management system.

Make sure your students understand how to navigate the Blooket interface. Also, brief them about any scoring or rules specific to the game mode you’ve chosen. It’s always a good idea to play a practice round in class before assigning a homework task, just to make sure all students are comfortable with the platform.

Lastly, monitor student progress. Blooket’s teacher dashboard allows real-time tracking of student results, which can inform instructional decisions and help determine areas of difficulty for students.

Practical Classroom Applications of Blooket

Leveraging the interactive and competitive elements of Blooket, educators are able to boost student engagement in class. Here are a few practical ways this tool can be successfully implemented:

1. Review Sessions: Instead of conventional Q&A format, use Blooket to conduct lively review sessions. Teachers can quiz students on recently taught content to facilitate better retention and to identify topics that may need to be revisited.

2. Homework: Instead of giving direct assignments, educators can assign Blooket games for homework. This makes the learning process fun and engaging while offering an opportunity for knowledge reinforcement.

3. Test Preparation: Blooket can serve as a unique platform for test prep. By playing the games, students can revise their learning materials in a seamless and enjoyable manner, improving their familiarity with the subject matter and boosting their confidence.

4. Ice Breaker Activities: At the beginning of a term, Blooket can be used to conduct ‘get to know you’ games. This not only fosters a sense of fraternity among students, but also helps in establishing a positive classroom culture.

Privacy Considerations With Blooket

When engaging with Blooket, it is compelling to balance the tool’s educational benefits with its privacy practices. Primarily, Blooket collects some personal data from users, but it’s generally limited to usernames, email addresses, and game history. It does not share user data with third-party advertisers or entities.

However, make sure that students’ user names do not contain personal information. Teachers can facilitate this by helping students craft anonymous but identifiable usernames. Also, Blooket’s privacy policy is straightforward and accessible, suitable for educators to review before incorporating the tool into their curriculum.

Although Blooket’s chat feature might present a potential concern, it’s noteworthy that the chat is limited to information about the game. All conversations are monitored, and inappropriate language is flagged and blocked, making it a safe space for students during gameplay.

Lastly, to defend against cyber risks, Blooket uses measures like encryption and firewalls for safeguarding storage and transfer of data. However, teachers should continually remind students about maintaining their confidentiality online.

Despite these considerations, remember – a digital tool is only as private as its use. Be sure to maintain an open dialog about safe and responsible use of digital platforms, including Blooket, to foster a constructive and secure learning environment.

Accessibility Features of Blooket

To ensure inclusivity, Blooket offers an array of accessibility features. These cater to students with diverse needs and enable everyone to participate effectively. For visually impaired students, Blooket games can be navigated using keyboard commands and a screen reader. High-contrast options are available to support players with a variety of visual needs.

Furthermore, timers on the games can be adjusted, which accommodates students who may need extra time to process information. Preset time alterations range from an immediate pace up to a slow, deliberate window allowing each participant to engage at a comfortable personal pace.

Additionally, Blooket accommodates students of varying proficiency levels with the option to select difficulty modes for certain games. Understanding that teacher’s needs vary depending on their student’s abilities, there’s the ability to customise question sets to suit different learning styles and speeds.

There is also support for various languages, promoting diversity and enabling players from different cultural backgrounds to enjoy the same learning experience. With all these features in place, Blooket aims to provide an accessible and inclusive learning platform.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Blooket

Harnessing its interactive elements, Blooket proves to be an engaging tool for students, fostering a sense of competition while promoting deep learning. Yet, it’s important to recognize the potential drawbacks along with the benefits.

On the upside, the platform offers a variety of game modes, catering to diverse learner needs and preferences. The capability to customize question sets allows tailored content, catering specifically for individual and group learning goals. Moreover, Blooket enhances not only the absorption but also the recall of information with its repeating questions feature.

However, there are also several downsides to note. Firstly, for those with limited Internet connectivity or technological resources, Blooket might pose access difficulties. Furthermore, while competitiveness can be a motivator for some learners, others may feel undue pressure or anxiety, unfavorably impacting their learning experience. Finally, Blooket requires meticulous content curation by educators to ensure its alignment with learning objectives and appropriateness for students’ proficiency levels.

Using Blooket for Formative Assessment

Formative assessments play a vital role in shaping teaching strategies and improving student understanding. Integrating Blooket into this process adds an element of excitement and engagement.

To facilitate immediate feedback, consider utilizing live games during lessons. As all answers are displayed in real-time, teachers can identify learning gaps and adjust instruction on the fly.

For a more comprehensive picture, Blooket’s data reporting feature tracks individual student progress over time. This can assist in setting tailored learning goals.

The adaptability and various game mode options make Blooket an ideal tool for differentiation. You can select difficulty/challenge levels or assign different question sets to support diverse learning needs.

Remember, the aim is to make assessment a fun, engaging, and continuous process, which Blooket beautifully aids in achieving. Being aware of these concepts can help you make the most of Blooket for formative assessments.

Blooket’s Learning and Community Ratings

The learning rating of Blooket is quite impressive, typically receiving positive feedback across various educational platforms. Even though it’s often considered a game, its context-driven structure supports learning objectives efficiently. It allows students to reinforce their understanding while having fun, bridging the gap between education and engagement.

As for community ratings, Blooket enjoys a highly positive reputation. Its user-friendly interface makes it a hit among both educators and learners. The features of creating, hosting, and playing games inspire collaborative learning, thereby fostering a strong sense of community. In online reviews, users commonly praise Blooket’s ability to engage students even in complex topics, improving their academic participation and motivation.

One key observation made by educators portrays Blooket as a flexible tool, seamlessly applicable to various educational settings and subjects, further enhancing its community rating. Thus, Blooket stands tall as both a learning tool and a catalyst for community interaction.

To kick things off, visit the Blooket website and sign up for an account. Choose the ‘Teacher/Host’ option. After the registration process, you can create your first question set. Click on the ‘My Sets’ button in the upper right and select ‘New Set.’ This opens up an interface where you can manually input your questions and answers or import them from another format.

Subsequently, explore the possibility of assigning these question sets as graded or practice homework. Turning a set into an assignment is as straightforward as clicking the ‘Homework’ button next to the set’s name and specifying the start and end times.

Last on your beginner’s checklist is launching a game. To do this, click on the ‘Host Game’ button, choose your preferred game mode, and instruct your students to join using the generated game code. Community Interaction Through Blooket Q&A

Blooket’s platform lends a distinct advantage for nurturing vibrant community interaction. The built-in Q&A feature significantly improves learning interaction, allowing users to open dialogues, discuss topics, clarify uncertainties, and share knowledge with peers worldwide. This interactive element enriches the game-based learning experience since it extends beyond just rote memorization.

Blooket incorporates different perspectives into the Q&A, where:

  • Users can create and customize their own question sets , effectively sharing their knowledge or unique viewpoints.
  • Players can engage in real-time feedback during games , opening up a channel for instant clarification and learning reinforcement.
  • The Q&A platform acts as an excellent medium for learners to share strategies, creating a collaborative learning environment.
  • Educators can also utilize this feature to communicate with students remotely , elucidating difficult concepts or question sets.

Overall, Blooket’s Q&A feature transforms the traditional learning process into an inclusive and community-driven endeavor.

Blooket’s Integration With Educational Standards

Blooket aligns well with Common Core and state-specific guidelines, enabling teachers to incorporate technology into their classroom and achieving educational objectives more efficiently.

Within its game modes, one can find options tailoring to different subject matter and skill levels, thus addressing the necessary standards across various disciplines and grades.

For instance, in Mathematics, a teacher might use ‘CafĂ©’ mode to challenge students’ understanding of multiplication — ensuring alignment with CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.C.7 .

Over in Language Arts, Blooket’s ‘Gold Quest’ mode thrills students as they race to answer questions on parts of speech, honing their grasp of CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.1.A .

Teachers also have the freedom to create their own question sets that align perfectly with their curriculum.

To monitor their students’ progress and address individual learning needs, they can refer to the in-built check-in reports.

All of these elements of Blooket present opportunities for standard-compatible, engaging, and diversified instruction and assessment.

Blooket’s Role in the SAMR Model

Diving deeper into its pedagogical underpinnings, let’s consider how Blooket fits within the SAMR Model .

For those unfamiliar, the SAMR Model is a framework used to observe the level of technology integration into educational practices. It includes four stages: Substitution , Augmentation , Modification , and Redefinition .

In the Substitution stage, Blooket can replace traditional paper-and-pencil tasks, such as flashcards for studying. Here, technology merely substitutes, with no functional change.

Moving up to the Augmentation stage, Blooket starts to improve upon regular tasks. Features like immediate feedback and score-tracking help enhance the learning process, setting it apart from traditional methods.

In the Modification stage, Blooket significantly redesigns aspects of the task. The various game modes create an environment of competition and collaboration that robustly transforms the learning experiences.

Finally, at the Redefinition stage, Blooket allows for the creation of new tasks, that were previously inconceivable. The ability for learners to design their own question sets, for instance, develops higher-order thinking, as they not only answer but also craft challenging questions.

Thus, as we explore this model, it becomes evident that Blooket can proficiently shift between the different stages of the SAMR Model , augmenting and transforming the learning experience.

Tom and Ben Steward created the Blooket learning website to have fun while learning and create memorable experiences. And let me tell you, they definitely succeeded! With game features that allow teachers to receive useful feedback and improve classroom management, Booklet has become a go-to tool for educators everywhere.

One thing I love about Blooket is how versatile it is. It’s not just for reviewing content – you can also use it to assign homework that your students will actually want to complete! And the best part is, the games are so engaging that your students won’t even realize they’re learning.

So if you’re looking for a way to spice up your classroom and make learning more enjoyable for everyone involved, give Blooket a try! I’m sure, you won’t be disappointed.

Blooket is a gamified educational tool that I find to be a fantastic way to optimize student engagement and keep students excited about the topic. The online learning platform allows teachers to host games and homework assignments innovatively that catch students’ attention, inspiring them to learn. Students receive rewards for answering multiple-choice questions correctly.

The best part? Blooket is incredibly versatile; I find it is more than just a tool for review. Teachers host Blooket games in real-time in the physical classroom or online teaching, allowing students to go solo and practice at their time and their pace without competing with other students.

With a wide range of question sets available, Blooket is a learning platform for all grades, from kindergarten to middle schoolers to 12th grade. Teachers can save their multiple-choice format question sets and use them in a variety of game options. The competitive games engage students on a different level when competing with classmates.

Hosting the game is a breeze – teachers host the game mode with questions on their screen or projector, and students join in on their own devices using the game ID code. Plus, Blooket integrates with other learning platforms like Google Classroom and Seesaw; all the teacher has to do is insert the link.

How To Play Blooket

The Blooket game works with questions sets students need to answer. Teachers create unique question sets or find premade question sets with Discover or Search tabs. When students answer correctly, they receive points to buy or sell Blooks and power-ups.

Create A Free Account

Blooket is free. The free version allows unlimited games, students, and question sets. Teachers can register as many students they want to but are limited to hosting a maximum of 60 students per session. Sign up with your Google account or email address.

Students younger than 13 years need a parent’s permission to create an account on the Blooket website. Students older than 13 with a student account can:

  • Create their own question sets for their own game
  • Buy and sell Blooks
  • Track their statistics
  • Participate in community events

Students don’t have to register to use Blooket and play online games; they can join an online game with just a code. The teacher provides the game code or a link to the Blooket game. For more fun, the student enters an alias name and avatar instead of their name.

Students wait in the lobby until the teacher allows them into the game. Teachers can see which students are waiting to play. When ready, the host presses the start giving students access to the game. Teachers can follow each student’s progress.

The Booklet free version is sufficient with its unlimited online games. The free version provides teachers with the percentage of questions answered correctly and incorrectly for the class and individual students. Blooket Plus is the paid version that allows teachers to view enhanced game reports. If you require more detailed reporting than the free version offers, subscribe to the Blooket Plus paid version.

Ease Of Use

The Blooket website is easy to navigate and use. After registration, you go to the dashboard page, where an overview tutorial takes you through the website tabs and features.

blooket intro

The Blooket dashboard is to the left of the screen and features five tabs.

  • News is the latest Blooket news and articles. You’ll find new features and events announced here.
  • My Sets  features all the quiz question sets the teacher created.
  • Favorites give quick access to favorite questions sets.
  • Homework reveals the recent and live homework assignments.
  • History shows the latest games the teacher hosted and the history of the games.

The teacher can immediately create questions or search for a premade set relevant to the topic to host the first multiple-choice game.

When logged in to Blooket, you can switch between teacher and student mode. Most games allow late joiners; they can still win if they answer questions correctly.

Students use click-and-drag-and-drop to play.

The menu bar at the top of the screen gives you easy access to your dashboard, settings, statistics, and the two options for questions sets, Discover or Create.

  • Discover  is a library of hundreds of premade question sets on different topics.
  • Create your own set of multiple questions with answers.

Create Or Discover Question Sets

Teachers have two options for question sets; they can create their own or use a public question set.

Everything required to create a question set is on the Create A Question Set page. Teachers only need to fill in the self-explanatory field.

  • Title. Use a descriptive title for quick recognition. After creating multiple question sets, you’ll be glad you’ve used easily identifiable titles.
  • Description. The description area allows the teacher to provide more information about the question set.
  • Image. Use images to create your own visual themes. The cover image makes each question set unique. Teachers can upload or drag and drop the graphics for the specific question set.
  • Private/Public. The public setting is for everyone to see; once published, it is available for other teachers to discover and use. The private setting is a great way to test the question set before launching the game.
  • Import. Teachers can create the answer-question sets from scratch or import them from a spreadsheet or Quizlet.
  • Answer-Questions. Add the question, image, and four answer choices. Click the checkmark showing which answer is the correct one. Add the time limit a student can spend on the question and check Random Answer Order to provide solutions in random order.
  • Save. Blooket saves the question set for classroom games to My Sets on your dashboard.

The Blooket Discover page features questions sets on various topics you can use in different game modes. Each set has a card with the title, the number of questions, the author, when last edited, and the number of plays. Teachers can select the question set they are interested in or use the search bar to search topic-related questions.

blooker discover question sets

Each set shows all the questions, the multiple-choice answers, and the time limit for each question. Next, select Host or Solo mode to create and launch games; teachers can add the set to the Favorites tab. Users subscribed to Blooket Plus can duplicate the premade questions and answers and edit them.

Select Game Mode

In Select Game Mode, you can see all the games. When you click on a game card, it provides the

  • The title of the game
  • A short description of the game
  • The number of players or unlimited players
  • At the bottom of the card, blue buttons indicate whether the game is for homework only (HW), a hosting online game (Host), or both options.
  • The card also indicates the type of game, whether it requires strategy and speed, speed and accuracy, or strategy and accuracy.

Click on the HW or Assign HW button to assign the game homework. You are directed to the Blooket Assign Now page.

  • Time Limits. Homework assignments have time limits set by the teacher when selecting the game in game mode. Select the due date when the homework is due by selecting the number of days, hours, and minutes.
  • HW Title. Teachers can change the homework title to a more appropriate title.
  • Goals. Each game has a purpose. For example, in the Crazy Kingdom, the number of guests with requests is the goal. A student needs to answer a question for each request. The teacher can decide the number of guests, which equals the number of questions.

When assigning homework, students complete a game in their own time. Teachers provide them with the game ID code to access the game and answer questions correctly.

blooket host mode for teachers

Select the Host blue button to host a game. Teachers are directed to a Blooket settings page. Game settings vary according to the game; each game in game mode has specific goals and settings appropriate for that game. For example,

  • Time or Cash. Teachers can choose whether students play with a time limit or for cash. The game ends after a specific time or when a player reaches a cash amount – set by the teacher.
  • All Student Accounts. When disabled, students join the game without the account creation option.
  • Number Of Questions. For example, teachers determine how many correct answers are needed to win the race in the Racing game. In the Crazy Kingdom game, the questions are related to the number of guests, and the Cafe game serves food items.
  • Other settings are late joining, glitches (power-ups) allowed, and random names.

Immediate feedback about students’ performance gives teachers vital information. They can identify where the class or individual students struggle and which concepts require more explanation and review. All gameplay generates summary reports.

When students answer questions correctly, the screen is green, and a checkmark leads them back to game mode. The screen changes to red with an incorrect answer; the correct answer is revealed at the bottom of the screen for three seconds, allowing students to study the correct answer.

Blooket Game Features

Blooks are cute avatars, friends, and foes, making the playing field more engaging and challenging. These character avatars are small animals or people used as icons, enemies, guests, and ways to defeat the enemy. Blook categories vary from common blooks to the rarest Mystical ones.

  • Common blooks are default blooks and can’t be sold. They are cute and colorful, and there are about 40 common blooks. Teachers can assign color blocks as avatars if they run out of character blooks.
  • Uncommon blooks   are unlocked through boxes; up to 5 uncommon blooks are in a themed box. Uncommon blooks sell for five tokens.
  • Rares sell at 20 tokens and have a drop rate of 6.5-11%. There are currently about 19 rare blooks found in 8 different boxes. The uncommon blooks and rare blooks have a green particle effect when obtained.
  • Epics feature in boxes, and you have a 2-5.05% chance of finding an epic blook in a box. There are about 12 epics, and they sell at 75 tokens. A red particle effect appears when obtained.
  • When obtained, Legendaries have a mixed yellow particle effect; they sell for 200 tokens except for the Megalodon that sells for 250 tokens. The nine legendary blooks are King, King of Hearts, Astronaut, Mega Bot, Lion, Baby Shark, Santa Claus, and Megalodon.
  • Chromas have a 0.05-0.02% drop rate, and some are only awarded at certain events. Although there are 21 different chroma blooks, they are scarce.
  • Mysticals are the rarest blooks in the game and sell at 1,000 tokens. The three mystical blooks are Spooky Ghost, Tim the Alien, and Phantom King.

With eight different game modes for regular play and two unique event games, teachers can host various games or reuse their favorite game modes.

  • Factory, Cafe, and Tower Defense games are available as hosted, homework, or solo games .
  • Tower of Doom and Crazy Kingdom are for solo play and homework assignments .
  • Classic Game, Racing Mode, Battle Royale, Gold Quest, Crypto Hack, Santa’s Workshop, Fishing Frenzy, Candy Quest, and Blook Rush are hosted games .

The fun arcade games offer a variety of game modes; some are like a traditional trivia game, and others allow glitches or power-up of the strategy game piece. You may know all the answers to the questions, but it doesn’t help if your health bar has zero points.

Earning tokens, cash, and spending coins add to the fun of playing Blooket games. Some Blooket games allow students to buy glitches to power up their blooks; they have the option to sell them. Tower Defense is one game in which choosing the right blook and strategically placing it on the map may help you win the game.

Blooket saves games automatically.

When you select a game in game mode, you can load a saved game or play a new game. Load game takes you to all the saved games for that particular game.

The Blooket Play tab also gives you the option to load a saved game or enter the game id for a hosted game. In Blooket Play, all games you’ve played are shown, not just the saved games of a particular game.

Teachers don’t have to create a new question set for each game. Keep students engaged when answering questions from the same set but playing different games.

If certain games keep students entertained longer, reuse these favorite games; teachers can host the same game with different question sets.

Although the free version has so much to offer, you’ll be surprised that the paid version has even more to offer.

  • Early Access. Paid subscribers get early access to new Blooks, game modes, events, and limited-time events.
  • Exclusive Freebies. Students are eligible for free bonus tokens after games.
  • Duplicate Community Sets . Changing public question sets saves teachers time and allows them to customize the question set for their lesson and classroom without creating a question set from scratch.
  • Create Folders. Folders can keep the content organized.
  • Enhanced Game Reports.
  • Randomizing points
  • Auto generating groups
  • Student engagement portal to check student progress

I can confidently say Blooket is one of the best online resources for class-wide review, remote learning, learning at own pace, and inspiring more open-ended participation. It’s such a user-friendly game; I can imagine how engaged and excited students feel when playing Booklet games. One of my favorite things about the Booklet game is the reward you get for answering questions correctly, and in some games, the fastest correct answer wins.

Whether students use their own devices or participate in a group competition at a classroom station, Blooket never disappoints. I think students love having their own accounts, embedded incentives that keep them motivated to learn, and competitive experiences.

As for teachers, I think Blooket is a game-changer. Teachers can host games with their own visual theme using the vast range of gameplay types and receive instant feedback. The Blooket group gameplay features are helpful classroom management tools and an excellent resource that I highly recommend to anyone looking to make learning more engaging and exciting.

Tech Tool of the Month: Blooket – Part 1

Author: Melissa Henning | Posted: June 2, 2021 Categories: Tech Tool of the Month | Tags: frameworks , game-based learning , ISTE Standards , Tech Tools

Blooket is a game-based learning tool that allows you to play or create your own trivia and review games for group competition or solo study. There are two ways to set up games: you can Host a live game to play together during class, or assign games as Homework for students to complete asynchronously. There are countless games in the Discovery area that are ready to go. When creating your own game, you can create a question set manually or import questions from Quizlet. The games are set-up by the teacher as a Host game or Homework . A Host game is assigned live and completed together during class. A Homework assignment is a game assigned for students to complete asynchronously. Currently there are nine different games to choose from, five of those can be assigned as Homework to be completed at any time asynchronously.

Applying the Triple E Framework

The Triple E Framework , created by Dr. Liz Kolb, is built on the belief that “effective technology integration begins with good instructional strategies and not fancy tools” ( tripleeframework.com ). Dr. Kolb wrote a book on the topic, Learning First, Technology Second (ISTE, 2017), that lays out the three main uses for technology in education: to Engage , Enhance, or Extend learning goals . We can use this framework to decipher why we are using specific tools in the classroom. Here is a rubric based on the Triple E Framework you can use to evaluate whether Blooket (or any other technology) is a good fit with your learning goals and whether you should use it in your lesson.

homework in blooket

  • Engage in learning goals : Blooket games are very motivating to students because students are engaged in the variety of games. Students are also more engaged as they pick a personalized “Blook” to be their game piece throughout the games. Blooket helps to motivate students to begin the learning process by engaging them in the activities. Blooket is easy to navigate and can be teacher-led or completed as homework. When using Blooket, students take on the role of active learner as they view and participate in the games and assessments that have been shared by their teacher. Blooket can allow students to complete the lesson in a self-paced format when they are doing the homework mode. The game can be repeated for additional review. Students are more focused on the task because they are engaged in online games.
  • Enhance learning goals : Blooket creates paths for students to demonstrate their understanding of the learning goals using gaming in a way that they could not do without technology. Depending on the type of questions asked, this tool enhances learning goals because it allows students to demonstrate a more sophisticated understanding of the content by answering questions throughout the nine games on the site. Activities are not isolated in workbooks or stand-alones – the games and activities are designed for review and formative assessment. This demonstrates understanding better than just reading the text and it puts students virtually into the games. All of this enhances students’ learning and offers a more sophisticated and deeper understanding of the content.
  • Extend learning goals : Dr. Kolb describes extended learning as an opportunity for students to learn, connect, and collaborate outside of the regular school day and as a bridge between the school day and real-life experiences. This tool would work well with flipped, blended, and remote learning lessons, as students could complete the games at home or in school. Games can be set-up so that students play at the same time or play asynchronously at any time. We are preparing our students for a world that doesn’t exist yet, but most jobs do require independent motivation and knowledge of technology. Blooket allows students to practice skills they will use in the future, as many classes and careers will require students to use technology and to work through various steps of lessons or projects to completion.

SAMR Connection

The SAMR Mode l, by Dr. Ruben Puentedura, suggests that technology implementation has four levels. We can use this model as a guideline to analyze how we’re using technology tools in the classroom. Blooket, depending on how it is used, can be at all four levels of SAMR.

  • Substitution: At this level, the technology acts as a direct substitute, with no functional improvements. An example of using Blooket at this level would be if the teacher hosted a game at the end of a unit rather than giving a paper/pencil test.
  • Augmentation: At the level of augmentation the technology acts as a direct substitute, but also includes some functional improvements. Blooket allows teachers to add images to a game. Blooket also offers nine different games, to differentiate by interest.
  • Modification: The level of modification allows us to make (or modify) the activity into something more integrated with technology, meaning there is significant task redesign. There are countless ready-to-go games, all searchable and editable. Another functional improvement in the asynchronous games is the ability to play more than once for extra review.
  • Redefinition : The highest level of SAMR could be reached by having students collaborate and compete together outside of the classroom. The games can be set-up to be completed remotely. Students (ages 13+) can also create accounts and design their own games from scratch or edit an already-created game.

Don’t miss Part 2 of the Tech Tool of the Month: Blooklet , where we’ll discuss how to use the tool and introduce ways to use it in the classroom. In the meantime, let us know in the comment section below how you have used Blooklet in your education setting.

Introduction

Blooket is a fairly new website in the world of online quiz options for educators. As an online gamification tool, it now has twelve different game styles to engage students, allowing for both a synchronous mode (educators host a game in class) and an asynchronous mode (educators assign homework for students to play). It helps students to understand, practice, and master content learned in the classroom and builds a community when playing these games. Blooket games create a high energy environment that has proven to be motivating for many students. It is also easy to navigate and easy to find Blooket sets created by other users.

Name of the tool
URL
Primary purpose of the tool To boost engagement and competition with a variety of learners from in person to virtual classes through different types of games.
Cost Blooket Starter: free forever for creating and hosting sets, unique game modes, question set search, and unlimited sets and edits.

Blooket Plus: $2.99 per month, charged yearly as $35.88 for all starter features, enhanced game reports, early event access, copy and duplicate sets, student bonus tokens, exclusive features.

Blooket Plus Flex: $4.99 per month, all plus features with paying monthly, cancel whenever.

Ease of use The website is easy to use for educators once they create their accounts and log in to create game sets or search sets shared by other users.

Learners do not need to make an account and can just join a game using a game code. Learners can choose to create their own account for performance data tracking and earning points/tokens.

Overview of Blooket

1. twelve or more different game modes.

Blooket has a number of game modes that appeal to many learners, especially those that enjoy playing video games, and some of the game modes resemble some games that may be familiar to them (similar to Pokemon, for example). These game modes, in essence, “trick” learners into practicing the material that the teacher has created as they engage in games that resemble other types of games that they play for entertainment.

Here is a brief introduction of these modes in Blooket.

Blook Rush: players answer questions while they can attack or defend. If they attack, they take away a shield from the other team, which weakens their defense. If they defend, they earn a shield for themselves or their team. If they attack a team without any shields, they get to steal a blook (a character) from them.

Café: players roleplay that they are working in a cafe, answering questions while serving different food in the cafe based on the question points they earn.

Crypto Hack: players have a choice of five different passwords at the start of the game. Then they answer questions while trying to hack other players through guessing each of their passwords from three choices. If they guess correctly, they can steal a portion of other’s crypto.

Factory: players answer questions while trying to make as much money as possible by getting different units that each produce a different amount of money at a different speed.

Fishing Frenzy: players answer questions while trying to get fish with higher weights.

Gold Quest: players answer questions while randomly picking from one of three chests to win or lose their gold: losing a certain percentage of gold, swapping their total gold with another player, and stealing a certain percentage of another player’s total gold.

Racing: players compete against each other by answering the fastest among them all, so the game ends with the first player who answers all the questions correctly.

Tower Defense: players answer questions while building towers and design their defense to protect themselves from waves of evil blooks (characters).

Classic: a game mode that is similar to Kahoot with questions shown on players’ devices.

Battle Royale: similar to classic mode, each player competes against another player or another team while answering questions.

Crazy Kingdom: players keep a kingdom running by answering a variety of guests’ requests and managing their limited resources.

Tower of Doom: players answer questions while earning higher points in cards of Strength, Wisdom, or Charisma in order to compete with the other player.

2. Create a Set

A Blooket free account allows users to create and edit unlimited sets after they log in at www.blooket.com and click “create” on the top right. Users can add a title, description, and cover image for their set and choose “public” or “private” for the privacy setting to decide if other Blooket users can find and play their question set. Then they choose from three creation methods: manual (create each question and answers from scratch), Quizlet Import (import from a Quizlet set), and Spreadsheet Import (use a Google spreadsheet or Excel spreadsheet to import questions).

Picture 2 -  Creating a Question Set - my sets, different folders, arrow pointing to Create

3. Add a Question

When adding questions, teachers enter text to create their question with an option to add a question image through an image gallery, uploading a file or a URL. When creating answers, users are required to add two (minimum) to four answers (maximum) and set up at least one correct answer. In addition, the time limit of each question can be adjusted  as well as whether answers will be presented to players in a random or fixed order. Click “Save” then “Save Sets” to save a set to be ready for play.

Picture 4 - Create and Save a Question - Question Image, Question text, Answer 1, 2, 3, 4, Time Limit, arrow pointing to Random Answer Order, arrow pointing to Save

4. Host a Game

After saving a set, users will automatically return to their Blooket Dashboard to see which ones can be played by clicking “Host” to launch a game and selecting a game mode from twelve types. Based on different features of different game modes, users normally can choose how long the game will last, solo or team mode, along with some other game options.

Picture 6 - Host a Game - 4 games show with pictures, titles, how many plays, as well as buttons for edit, delete, and settings, also has buttons for solo play and host, there is an arrow pointing toward host

5. Play a Game

After “Host Now” is clicked, a Blooket game link and code will be presented for participants to join. Each game is for up to 60 players to enter for the free account and up to 1000 players for a Blooket Plus account. In addition, depending on the game mode, there may be a minimum player number suggested (such as 2+, 3+, or 4+ for individual games and 12+ for team games).

Picture 7 - Enter a Game - Go to blooket.com/play and etner Game ID - 2 plays (B and Sam), and button to start

6. Assign Homework

Currently there are five Blooket games (Tower Defense, CafĂ©, Factory, Crazy Kingdom, and Tower of Doom) that have an additional feature of “assign HW (homework)” when educators host them. They can choose to adjust the time period during which the game ID is valid as well as certain settings. This allows students to complete a game during their own time and try multiple times before the game/assignment due date. Educators can check “Homework” and “History” on the dashboard’s left side to view a detailed report of each assignment and live game launched to track students’ performance and progress. Students do not need an account to participate – they simply use their teacher’s shared game link to join the assignment.

Picture 8 - Game Mode: Factory’s Assign HW - 8th Grade daily routines, assign now - assigning homework allows students to complete a game on their own time. you'll be given a game ID that is valid for the time specified below. when students use this game ID, they'll be able to play the game and answer questions. then, you'll get live updates on their progress and performance. Due May 12, 2022, change time - days, hours, minutes, change HW title, settings, cash goal

Practical Uses for the Language Classroom

1. For vocabulary quizzes, you can choose “Quizlet Import,” which is a great time saver if you already have materials in Quizlet that you would like students to be able to use in Blooket as well. There are three steps following  to guide users regarding how to copy and export one set from their Quizlet account. When pasting content, the option of “Flip questions and answers” is strongly suggested, which automatically increases the complexity of any game when playing.

Picture 9 - Quizlet Import - create a question set, cover image, title, description, privacy setting (public/private), creation method (manual, arrow pointing to quizlet import, spreadsheet import)

For example, in my Chinese I class, I have a Quizlet set of Daily Routine Vocabulary with the learning objective “I can identify basic daily routines.” When I copy and paste this set into Blooket, a similar Daily Routines Vocabulary Set is created immediately and is ready to host with ten options of game modes. Through playing the same set of vocabulary repeatedly but in different game modes with different tasks to accomplish, students will not feel bored and lose interest since some games focus on speed and strategy, some speed and accuracy, some speed and insight, while others speed and luck.

2. For reading activities, as they are more challenging than vocabulary games, educators can choose a speed and luck game such as Gold Quest. This is usually students’ favorite game in Blooket, a great place to start on Blooket, and a fast and effective end of class exit ticket. It adds uncertainty and excitement in competition.

Picture 10 - Game Mode: Gold Quest Explanation - Choose a chest! gold quest - exciting twists and chests full of gold! build your riches in this chaotic mode by answering questions to earn gold and take it from other players - speed and luck, player limit 60 (1,000 for plus), 3+ players suggested, button for host game

For example, in my Chinese 3 class, I hosted a Gold Quest game about the Olympics, the topic of which students had learned recently with the objective of “I can identify the basic elements of the summer and winter Olympics by reading complete sentences.” When students play this game, they read and answer questions on their own device at their own pace. If their answers are correct, they are given a choice of three chests to open. One has gold, one has nothing, and the other one allows them to take a certain percentage of the gold from other players that they can choose. The final winner of this game is set to who has the most gold at the end of the game time.

Picture 11 - A Blooket reading set about the Olympics - olympic rings, chinese text, and several possible answers in Chinese

In summary, Blooket provides a wide variety of games for educators to engage students through live games or homework. It continuously helps students to learn and review target language words and sentences through different types of game modes with an element of surprise in each. The format of the Blooket games means that it is not necessarily the strongest student in class winning a game. Through offering them a chance for correct answers, they can steal another competitor’s points, swap scores, etc, and this allows all students to be motivated to play the game. There are lots of other variables to keep every participant involved in the game. Because Blooket has a Quizlet Import feature, teachers who already have materials in Quizlet can get started with this tool very quickly. Teachers can also use students‘ performance reports from Blooket as a basis to provide feedback for their progress.

blooket is good

How do you make a blooket???

I love blooket

Thank You for giving this great piece of information! It was really helpful.
