I would argue, subjectively, that the MD path is more competitive than the MD/PhD path—though, objectively, the overall matriculation rates are similar (35.9% for MD/PhD, 36.2% for MD in 2021-2022 cycle). But on a serious note, for MD-PhD programs specifically where research is king, I’m guessing outstanding accomplishments in research would really boost your chances. Imo this can come in the form of getting a first author publication (very rare as an undergrad) or major research awards (like the Goldwater scholarship, Churchill, etc.).
Hello! I had an actual 3.3 GPA and applied with an mcat that was average for MD/PhD but was a retake. I got into 3 lower tiered programs and matriculated to one of those schools, so it is definitely possible to get in especially with a killer MCAT you could still have a shot at T20.
