Hello, Suppose I have graduated from a university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. 1. I have an educational background in engineering. 2. I majored in engineering. What is the difference between No.1 and No.2 if I want to tell others about my educational background?

2 means that engineering was your main subject at university. 1 means that your background involved teaching engineering, unless you delete "educational", in which case it just means you have done some engineering in the past.
An educational background need not be a complete major. I have an educational background in physics, though I did not major in it. I took several physics courses as part of my engineering major. I did not take enough physics courses to qualify for a major in that subject. (Before someone asks me a physics question, I should point out that I took my last physics course sometime around 1966.)
'I have an educational background in X' is vaguer than 'I majored in X.' 'I majored in' gives the other person more information, because it tells them the degree (pun intended) of knowledge you have. Also, 'I have an educational background in X' is a bit formal; it sounds as though you are purposely trying to sound impressive (perhaps more knowledgeable than you are) by using formal language. If you are in a professional situation, you want to be specific. Pace kentix, to me "I majored in engineering" is not much different from "I have an undergrad engineering degree" when one is talking with adults.

One way to recognize the difference is to ask whether the word functions as part of a title or it functions to describe the nature of the noun. In this case, we're describing the title of a category. Therefore, I would use Education Background. If we were discussing the nature or type of background, I would say educational background.
