Abstract: | Today organizations rely on their human resources (HR) as a major asset. Organizations should be focused on the strategic utilization of its HR to the maximum extent for enhancing organizational performance. As HR is a significant aspect of any organization, organizational performance is also determined by the productivity of its workforce. Job satisfaction is a significant dimension an organization should take care of because it correlates significantly with job performance and productivity. Hence the need to measure the job satisfaction of employees has become more pronounced.
newlineThe study aims to measure the employee job satisfaction levels and to observe the influence of job satisfaction on their job performance in public and private business organizations situated in India. Five factors of job satisfaction (salary, working environment, training and development, relationship with supervisor, and relationship with co-workers) and their associations with the job performance were analyzed using SPSS. Moderating effect of motivation and appreciation was also tested. Altogether 9 constructs and 43 items of the survey questionnaire were analyzed. This study analyzed the factors that create job satisfaction level differences among the workforce of private and public industry and compared their job satisfaction levels.
newlineThe samples of the study were the middle level professionals working in various Indian public and private industries. Convenience sampling technique was employed. The sample size of the study was 416. The results showed that all the five factors affected employee job satisfaction in Indian private and public industry. The study results substantiate the association of the employee job satisfaction with their job performance. The study contributes to the fields of job satisfaction and job performance; Indian business organizations and the HR Body of Knowledge. The empirical study will benefit the business organizations, HR communities of practice, the academia, and other researchers.
