Thank you for the custom doctoral hood. The colors matched my university's very well and, more importantly, it is a very high quality hood and it reminds me how this regalia was actually standard dress for faculty once upon a time. I purchased my gown, hood, and tam from Phinished and can imagine how these garments could be daily garb. I ordered a gown for the University of Notre Dame - since someone had done this previously, they already had the school emblems that go on the front panels. (If you're also at ND, you'll want to order the gown with embroidery, and 8-sided tam. I believe colors are royal blue and gold). I can't verify that the gown is identical to the official one because I live elsewhere and am not attending commencement, but it looks and feels great. Way better deal than going through the university. They can be a bit slow over email, but once they respond, customer service is excellent.

These are excellent. The robe has buttons exactly where it is convenient for making everything hang properly. Love the pockets. Very fairly priced in comparison to other comparable robes (similar fabrics etc) and of comparable, if not better, quality. Regalia is a big, complicated, bulky garment - these hang nicely, the fabric feels nice, and they have nice finishing touches. Everything arrived well before graduation

Amazing job.

I was hesitant to get the custom regalia from a company other than the one contracted with the University. The new regalia is an unusual color and I specified the color on the order. It is a "olivey" shade of hunter green. Instead of contacting me when they didn't have the color, they made it in Emerald Green, which is definitely not right. Hunter green would have been close enough, but not emerald green. I had sent them pictures of the regalia as well, which was clearly not emerald. I tried to give them as much instruction as possible and they had my contact info if they had any questions. The quality of the regalia is beautiful, but I'm going to feel a bit embarrassed wearing it to commencement. At least I am faculty and won't be sitting next to numerous other people in the correct color.

I ordered a custom cap and gown set, and the finished product is beautifully crafted. They communicated well throughout the process, and shipping was fast. The order was delivered a few days early!

For my hooding, I rented the official regalia, but as a new faculty member I needed my own to wear a few times a year. I’m so glad I went with PhinisheD! The regalia arrived today, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The quality is better than the official regalia—the fabric is lighter and nicer to wear, the tam is overall just nicer with an attractive tassel and an option to adjust the size, and that’s not even to mention the pockets, which are wonderful. The gown even has the embroidered badges for my university—which I wasn’t expecting from an unofficial source. Good quality, delivered on time

When I graduated with my PhD, my university didn’t give us the option of purchasing our regalia. I bought my regalia from PhinisheD Gown after earning a faculty position to wear to convocation and graduation ceremonies. Due to COVID, I didn’t get the chance to walk for my doctoral graduation. This was a gift from my parents and the custom PSU doctoral gown came out perfect! Every detail was immaculate and the fabric and embroidery was high quality. Highly recommend!

Admittedly, the ease in ordering online--and putting my other requests in a list on the comment box--made me nervous that I just donating a lot of money to just a costume. However, the surprisingly small box arrived over a week early, and I pulled out a beautiful (and unwrinkled!) gown, hood, and tam. The gown was protected in a bag and with a hanger. It wears very well--and it looks better than I thought it would. Each year, I've paid about 20% of the cost for renting regalia--I should have bought this years ago! I love love love that there are pockets!

The gown is excellent. There were facial masks in the pockets, which came as a pleasant surprise in this difficult time. Very happy.

When I received my doctoral regalia from my school I was seriously disappointed. Cheaply made and I felt after my years of hard work getting my PhD I deserved to wear something that looked as good as I felt. Good as expected

After learning about Phinished Gown through Reddit, I emailed Jane with a tall order: could it be possible to create a gown that fits both me at 5'4" and my husband at 6'0" since we both earned our PhDs from the same institution? She guided us by providing precise measurements for each of the Phinished Gown sizes, so we ordered one and hoped for the best. They were very receptive to feedback I had when we received the proof, and they were quick to correct a miscommunication we had about the ordering process. As for the gown, it magically looks great on both of us! Regarding the match to our university's official regalia at my graduation ceremony, there were some differences in the fabric type and color of the gown, the style of the piping, and the tam's tassel. However, I much preferred the overall look and fit of our Phinished Gown set, and the differences will be negligible when my husband uses as a faculty member at a different college. The pockets are a HUGE plus, too.

Overall, I would highly recommend Phinished Gown for your regalia needs. The product is high quality and the service is exceptional. I received many compliments, and for a savings of a few hundred dollars, I did not feel like we had received a bargain product at all. I decided to purchase my regalia this year, as the rental regalia provided at my current institution for faculty/staff participating in commencement is of the generic black type, and I very much wanted to wear my alma mater's colors - but the price of the "official" regalia was far too high! I was similarly hesitant to purchase "unofficial" regalia, since it can be hard to tell how good it would come out. Phinished Gown was recommended to me by one of my old classmates, who purchased a set for her new faculty job, and said it was outstanding. So I decided to go for it, and I couldn't be happier that I did. Jane took great care at making sure to have enough photos to be able to color match the custom set with our official regalia, and it came out very close - a bit lighter in color, but I actually much prefer it. The gown is perfectly tailored and is a nice fabric texture, and as others have written, it has pockets, a great feature. I was a bit hesitant to custom order the PhD set for the University of Washington. I was concerned the quality would not be as good or that there would be slight differences. I was wrong. I received a high quality, beautiful set that is identical to what I rented when I graduated a few years ago. The packaging was professional (they include a nice cover to keep the set protected and clean). I am very impressed especially because the price cannot be beat. Some places ask for ridiculous amounts. Not here. They are fair and deliver a high quality product. I highly recommend them and will share my experience with my colleagues. All orders for “In-Stock Products” will ship out within 1-4 Business Days. We offer Quick Processing (options which expedite your order handling and overall delivery time), however you must submit your request on our contact us page. Additional fees may apply.

If your Order contains a “Custom Product”, the entirety of your order processing time will be approximately 2 – 3 weeks. Expedited processing options are not available for “Custom Products”. Prior to checking out, please review your order and be aware that by placing this order you understand and accept the extended 2 – 3 weeks processing time.

International Shipping

We will ship to some foreign locations. Such locations generally include Canada, Europe, South America, Japan and a few other locations. You can check if your country is available by simulating placing an order on our website. We can also place the order over the phone if you do not find your country. However because such shipments often involve the peculiarities of the various tariffs trade and import/export laws around the globe we may not be able to ship some orders overseas due to the cost of researching the laws for that location. Also if possible it is always easier for us to ship to a US-based shipping address and you will always save on shipping costs if you can arrange for a US-based address to receive the shipment. At this time due to advice from our bank concerning trends in fraud we reserve all rights to deny or proceed with orders shipping internationally.

RETURN AND EXCHANGE POLICY 

• All returns must be authorized by email [email protected].
• A RETURN/EXCHANGE FORM WILL BE PROVIDED BY EMAIL, PLEASE FILL IT OUT AND INCLUDE IN YOUR SHIPMENT.
• NO REFUNDS WILL BE PROCESSED WITHOUT A RETURN/EXCHANGE FORM  
• All products and packaging must be in new condition and may not be returned used, worn or altered in any way.
• All shipping, handling and processing charges for your original order are non-refundable. 
• It is the responsibility of the customer to pay any return/exchange shipping. Once we receive your exchange, we will give you a call to process the payment of the exchange shipping cost.
• On all returned merchandise a 13% restocking fee will be applied.
• All returned product(s) must be returned/ received within 7 business days of return approval date.
• Requests for returns must be made within 14 days from the date of receipt of your order.
• Registered return shipping of products which are returned is the responsibility of the customer.
• Your return will be processed within 7-10 days. 
• All custom items/apparel cannot be returned and are non-refundable, this is because these items are made from custom fabrics or have custom printing with your personal information, therefore cancellations are not accepted after your order has been submitted.
• Requests to return/exchange products due to quality issue (received wrong item, color, size and other company error...), please send any evidence to [email protected], we will resolve the problem as soon as possible.
• Many items are “On Sale.” Products that are not eligible for returns are clearly marked as “On Sale” on the Product page for that Product. All products on sale are non-refundable, however can be exchanged for the same credit amount.
• You can cancel any in-stock product orders if it has not been shipped/left our facility. 
• Custom orders can only be cancelled the next business day you have placed your order.
• If you would like to cancel an order already shipped out, please process your request through this link (no custom orders accepted). You can send the order back after you received it.

Can I customize my diploma cover?

Yes, you can with a minimum order of 8 pcs. Please email us with the details of your diploma covers and we can provide you a quote and estimated delivery date.

Can I customize my gown?

From Pre-K to High School/Bachelor regular gowns, we do not offer other colors than the ones listed on the website. If you are looking to order more than 1000pcs, please email us the Pantone color and we will get back to you.

If you need to add a logo or letters on regular gowns, please email us the specifications and we will get back to you with a quote and estimated delivery date. 

For Deluxe Bachelor, Master gowns, we do offer custom colors and embroidery with no minimum order required. Please email us what you are looking to order and we will provide you a quote. 

For Doctoral gowns, we offer a listing where you can customize your own gown. You can select your gown color, piping color, add embroidery, etc... If you do not see an option that you would like to add on your gown, please email us and we will check if we are able to process your request.

Can the year charm on the tassel be removed or changed?

Do you offer blank diploma?

Yes we do. Please check our stock diplomas for Kindergarten through High School.

Do you offer customization options for honor cords?

Yes we do with a minimum of 10 pcs.

Do you offer customized diplomas?

Yes, we offer customized options for diplomas with a minimum quantity of 100pcs. Please email us with the details and we will provide you a quote and estimated delivery date.

Do you offer customized stoles?

Yes, we need a minimum of 6 pcs. Please email us the details of your stoles and we will get back to you with a quote and estimated delivery date.

Do you offer customized tassels and year date drops?

Please email us the design and quantity, we will get back to you if we are able to process your request. 

Please note we need a minimum of 10 pcs for customized tassel colors and a minimum of 100pcs for customized year date drops.

Do you offer different sizes for caps/tams/ beefeaters? Are they adjustable? What are they made of?

Our caps are made of 100% polyester. 

We provide caps in two sizes: Adult and Child.

They measure 9"x9".

The caps are not adjustable.

Do you offer plus sizes?

We do have regular and full-fit sizes. We have plus sizes in 45, 48, 54, 57, and 63. Please refer to the measuring instructions  link  for more information on our sizing.

We do not have full fit sizes in our child gowns. If you don't believe your graduate will fit within the child sizes, try a Size 39. You can find that size in High School Category. However, you may have to get the length hemmed at your cost.

How do I know what gown's color to choose?

Please contact your educational institution, as we currently do not have access to school colors.

How do I know which diploma cover to buy?

We recommend checking with your school which color and size to get or you can measure your diploma as well.

How do I select my hood's colors?

There is no standardized and unified published listing available of all current school colors.

While GraduationAttire does maintain a color chart for degree velvet colors there is no true substitute for contacting your school directly and asking them what colors they are currently using for your graduation apparel. Schools can and sometimes do change their colors on a yearly basis (and even the color of the gown itself).

The lining and chevron (satin fabric) represent your school colors. The shell is the material of hood which is always black (polyester fabric, matte finish). The velvet color represents your specific degree or field of study.

Please note for Associate Degree, you only need to select the lining and chevron colors (no velvet color required). 

You always need to choose the colors based on your highest level of education or current school you are attending.

How do I wear my hood?

Place it over your head draping off your shoulders and across the back of your gown. The velvet edge should be on the outside visible from the back. Make sure the lining (field and chevron school colors) are turned out so that people can see from the back your university colors. Usually this is done by turning the velvet trim to the outside at the back just below your shoulders. If you ordered a professional / faculty hood there will be a cord in the back (with two buttons one on each side of the hood) to keep your hood in place and a cord in the front to keep the hood away from your neck. Fasten the front cord to a shirt or dress button. Finally make sure the fabric shell of the hood is smoothed down and lays flat against the back of your robe. 

How to select my Graduation gown size?

You need to provide us with each customer's height with shoes on for the gown and weight. You do not need to provide cap size as our standard caps are one size fits all with elastic. Please see the our size chart . 

I don’t see the color I need. Do you provide any that aren’t listed?

You can email us the color that you need, we will get back to you with a closed match. 

We can color match some products if a bulk order is placed.

I lost my diploma, can I order one on the website?

Please contact your school directly for a copy of your diploma.

The color does not match my university regalia?

We do not color match. We have a very specific set of fabrics. We cannot guarantee that our fabric colors will match with another supplier’s fabrics.

What does debossed mean for diploma covers?

Debossing typically refers to the process of creating a raised or indented design on the surface of the cover. This is achieved by using a die (a metal or other hard material) to press the design into the material of the cover, creating a textured and visually appealing result.

What does piping mean for the gown/hood?

Piping is an embroidered thread around the velvet of a gown or hood.

What is the difference between matte and shiny?

The main difference is the finish of the fabric. Our shiny gowns are a knitted fabric that has more of a shiny look to it giving the color of the gowns more brightness. Our matte gowns are a woven fabric which has more of a flat dull finish. 

What if my school orders with a different company?

We welcome anyone to order with us! Although, we cannot give assurance or be held responsible for our gowns’ colours matching another company’s gowns. We provide unique shades of gowns are not the same with another vendor's products.

What is a double honor cord?

A double cord consists of two individual cords joined together at the center, with the knot positioned at the back of the graduate's neck.

What is a graduation stole? Can I wear a stole for my graduation?

Stoles are often made of a silky or satin-like material and are worn draped around the neck and over the shoulders, hanging down the front of the graduate's gown. They come in various colors and designs, and the choice of stole often signifies certain achievements, honors, or affiliations.

What is a graduation tassel?

A graduation tassel is a dangling ornament typically made of silk or a similar material and attached to a loop at the top. It is commonly worn as part of the cap and gown ensemble during graduation ceremonies. The tassel is attached to the mortarboard, which is the square-shaped cap worn by graduates.

The color of the graduation tassel often holds symbolic meaning and may represent the graduate's academic discipline, school colors, or specific achievements. During the commencement ceremony, graduates typically begin with their tassels on one side of the cap (often the right side) and then move them to the other side (often the left side) upon receiving their diplomas. What is a jumbo tassel?

Jumbo bullion tassels, characterized by their increased thickness, are specifically employed on college tams. These tams often symbolize the field of study pursued by the student.

What is beefeater?

A beefeater, also referred to as a Tudor Bonnet, is a premium hat usually reserved for esteemed officials overseeing graduation ceremonies (deans, presidents, etc...). The standard mortarboard, a square of cardboard encased in polyester, is worn atop the head and traditionally used for primary and secondary school graduations. In contrast, tams are more commonly chosen for advanced graduations like Ed.S and doctoral ceremonies, and occasionally for master's degrees.

What is the difference between 4, 6 or 8 sided tam?

The level of education attained by the wearer is indicated by the varying number of sides on a tam. Master's graduates commonly wear four or six-sided tams, with the specific choice often determined by the school. It's advisable to verify the appropriate tam style before making a purchase. Tams with six sides are suitable for programs like Ed.S (education specialist) that fall between Master's and Ph.D. Eight-sided tams are typically reserved for Doctoral programs.

What is the difference between the Deluxe and the classic/matte gown?

Our Deluxe gowns have fluting around the shoulders and yoke. They have more fabric used so they tend to be heavier. This is true for all of our deluxe gowns. 

The deluxe master has a different shape for the batwings. 

The deluxe doctor has bell sleeves and a braided button to attach the hood whereas the classic does not.

We cannot do an embroidered chest emblem on the classic doctor. 

Overall, the deluxe is considered a higher quality gown for your regalia.

What is the material of your gowns? Washing Instructions?

Our gowns are all made of 100% polyester. Purely made polyester, like our products, is extremely strong, extremely durable and has excellent properties such as being hydrophobic in nature that leads to quick-drying and stain resistance.

We recommend dry cleaning for all of our products in order to keep the integrity of the garment. However, our products can be washed in a machine using the gentle cycle or handwashed. For drying, please hang dry. The material can be ironed on a low setting.

Why would I need a 4th Chevron on my doctorate gown?

The 4th Chevron is for the Chancellor or President of a University. If you are neither, do not select "Add 4th Chevron" to your doctorate gown.
