हौस्टल का जीवन बहुत ही अलग किस्म का होता है घरवालों से दूर रहना पड़ता है । घरवालों का कोई नियंत्रण नहीं रेहता । उनकी ओर से पूर्ण स्वतन्त्रता रहती है । बचपन के दिये हुए संस्कार बहुत ही प्रबल होते हैं ।

घरवालों से दूर रहकर घरवालों के अनुदेशों का पूर्ण रूप से पालन करते हैं । अपने पर अनुशासन स्वयं ही लागू करते हैं । ऐसा करके उनसे दूर रहते हुए भी हम उनसे जुड़े रहना चाहते हैं । उनका सान्निध्य प्राप्त करते हैं ।

शिक्षा सत्र के बीच में ही मेरे पिताजी का स्थानान्तरण हो गया था । मेरे स्कूल से स्थानान्तरण प्रमाण-पत्र लेना सम्भव न था । अत: यह निर्णय किया गया कि मुझे होस्टल में प्रवेश करवा दिया जाए । प्रिंसिपल मे बात की गई । मुझे होस्टल में कमरा मिल गया । मैं अपनी पुस्तकें, बिस्तर, वर्तन और आवश्यकता की अन्य वस्तुएँ लेकर होस्टल पहुँच गया ।

मुझे लगा कि मैं अल्प आयु में ही घरवालों से स्वतंत्र तथा आत्मनिर्भर हो गया हूँ । मुझे बहुत अजीब लगा । जब मेरे मम्मी-पापा मुझे होस्टल में छोड़ने आए तो होस्टल के आस-पड़ोस के लड़के उनसे मिले । मेरे मम्मी-पापा उदास हो रहे थे ।

उन्होंने मेरे मम्मी-पापा को विश्वास दिलाया कि अब वे मेरी चिन्ता न करें । मेरा वे पूर्ण ध्यान रखेंगे । मम्मी-पापा के चले जाने के बाद मैं उदास हो गया । मेरी आँखों में आँसू भी आ गए । उन्होंने मुझे सांत्वना दी और काफी देर तक मेरे पास बैठे रहे ।

अगले दिन जब मैं सोकर उठा तो यह पहला अवसर था, जब कोई भी घरवाला मेरे पास नहीं था । वहाँ क्या, वे तो शहर में ही नहीं थे । वे रात की गाड़ी से जा चुके थे । पिताजी को नये शहर के कार्यालय में ड्‌यूटी ग्रहण करनी थी । मुझे मम्मी बहुत याद आई । माताजी मुझे छ: बजे जगा दिया करती थी । घड़ी देखी ।

छ: बजने में दस मिनट थे । मैं उठ खड़ा हुआ । मैं मम्मी से बहुत प्यार करता था । मुझे लगा कि उनकी अनुपस्थिति में उठकर मैंने उनकी आज्ञा का पालन किया है । तभी होस्टल के दो तीन लड़के आ गए । उनके हाथों में ब्रश, साबुन तथा वस्त्र थे ।

वे नहाने जा रहे थे और मुझे बुलाने आए थे । वे सामूहिक स्नानघर जा रहे थे और उनका कहना था सुबह-सुबह नहा लिया जाए । देर होने पर वहाँ भीड़ हो जाएगी । मैं उनके साथ चल दिया । वहाँ बिकुल भी भीड़ नहीं थी और हम शीघ्र ही नहा धोकर अपने कमरों में लौट आए ।

होस्टल की सुबह बहुत सुहावनी लग रही थी । कुछ लड़के अभी उठे नहीं थे । एक दो कमरों में हल्के-हल्के टेप रिकार्डर बजने की आवाज आ रही थी । बाहर पार्क में एक-दो लड़के व्यायाम कर रहे थे । एक-दो लड़के हमें सुबह के सुहावने मौसम में पढ़ते नजर आ रहे थे ।

कमरे में पहुंचकर तनिक उपासना की । अभी मैंने वस्त्र पहने ही थे कि वे लड़के पुन: आ गए । नाश्ते का समय हो गया था । हम विद्यालय के भोजनालय पहुँच गए । बड़ा हॉल कमरा था । कुर्सियां मेज लगे थे । हमें मक्खन के साथ आलू के पराठे परौसे गये । मुझे घर में आलू के पराठे अच्छे नही लगते थे किन्तु विद्यालय के होस्टल में नए मित्रों के संग वही पराठे स्वादिष्ट लगे । नाश्ता करके हम अपने- अपने कमरों में आ गए । स्कूल का समय नहीं हुआ था । मैं पढ़ने बैठ गया । एक डेढ़ घंटा पढ़ा होगा । फिर लड़के बुलाने आ गए । स्कूल का समय हो गया था ।

मुझे घरवालों का अभाव जरूर हो रहा था किन्तु होस्टल में सब कुछ रोचक था । दोपहर का भोजन हम जल्दी – जल्दी करते क्योंकि भोजन के समय के बाद भी कक्षाएँ लगतीं । स्कूल से वापस कमरे में आकर हम तनिक विश्राम करते । तदुपरांत उठने पर हम होस्टल के मनोरंजन कक्ष में चले जाते । वहाँ टी.वी. देखते । इस बीच रात के भोजन का समय हो जाता ।

हम हँसी खुशी फिर भोजन करते । रविवार अथवा छुट्टी वाले दिन खूब खेलते अथवा घूमने निकल आते । तीज-त्योहार हम मिलकर मनाते । यदि किसी के घर से कोई खाने वाली वस्तु आती तो हम मिलकर खाते । कभी-कभार होस्टल में झगड़ा भी हो जाता । दूसरे लड़के मेल-मिलाप करा देते । यदि कोई बीमार पड़ता सभी उसकी देखभाल करते । अधिकतर लडुकों में स्नेह और सहयोग की भावना थी । यदि रात को बात करने बैठते तो सारी रात बातों में ही गुजर जाती ।

होस्टल में खूब दिल लगा । एक दो बार मैं बीच में घर भी गया । घर पहुँचकर मेरा मन जल्दी होस्टल पहुँचने के लिए करता । होस्टल के दिन आज भी बहुत याद आते हैं ।

विद्यार्थी जीवन का मुख्य उद्देश्य अध्ययन है. यदि इस समय कोई व्यक्ति अध्ययनशील नहीं बना तो वह जीवन-पर्यन्त अशिक्षित रह जायेगा. इस कारण यह अत्यन्त आवश्यक है कि इस समय वह समस्त चिन्ताओं को त्याग कर शिक्षा पर अपना समय व्यतीत करे. दुर्भाग्यवश आज के युग में विद्यार्थी को शिक्षा ग्रहण करने से रोकने के लिए कई बाधाएं उपस्थित हो गई हैं. उदाहरण के लिए, सिनेमा, टीवी, इंटरनेट आदि. इनसे विद्यार्थी को पढ़ना एक बोझ-सा लगने लगता है.

पढ़ाई के लिए तो शान्त वातावरण चाहिए. शान्त वातावरण में ही वह एकाग्रचित होकर अध्ययन कर सकता है. ऐसा वातावरण घर पर मिलना लगभग असम्भव होता है. घर पर रहने से विद्यार्थी को अपने परिवार के सभी सदस्यों का साथ यथा-योग्य निभाना पड़ता है. बड़ों की आज्ञा का पालन करते समय अपने कई आवश्यक कार्यों का बलिदान करना पड़ता है. कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि घर पर विद्यार्थी की ठीक प्रकार से पढ़ाई होना कठिन है. अपने परिवार वालों के साथ कभी कहीं जाना पड़ता है, कभी कहीं.

आज सब सिनेमा जा रहे हैं तो उसका जाना जरूरी है, वरना सब बुरा मानेंगे. आज नानी के घर जाना है तो कल बुआ के घर जाना है या छोटी बहन को घुमाना है. अथवा बूढ़ी दादी के लिए दवाई लानी है. बेचारे को अपनी जिम्मेदारियां निभानी पड़ती हैं, क्योंकि घर पर तो वह परिवार का सदस्य पहले है, विद्यार्थी पीछे. यही कारण है कि प्राचीन काल में समस्त शिक्षा-दीक्षा गुरुकुलों में दी जाती थी.

वहां छात्र नगर के समस्त आकर्षणों से विमुख हो, एकान्त में एकाग्रचित हो पढ़ाई करते थे. आज के युग में इस प्रकार के गुरुकुल तो सम्भव नहीं हैं, क्योंकि न तो उस प्रकार के ऋषि आज उपस्थित हैं, और दूसरी बात यह है कि उस प्रकार की शिक्षा का आज के युग में कोई अधिक प्रभाव नहीं है. तथापि एक संस्था आज के समय में भी मौजूद है, और वह संस्था है छात्रावास.

छात्रावास में रहने का आनंद

वास्तव में शिक्षा केवल किताबी ज्ञान तक ही सीमित नही है. किताबी शिक्षा तो अधूरी शिक्षा ही है. वास्तविक शिक्षा में ज्ञान के साथ-साथ अनुभव होना भी अति आवश्यक है. विद्यार्थी को जीवन का वास्तविक रूप देखने को मिलना चाहिए जब ऐसी परिस्थति में पड़ेगा, जहां अनुभव की आवश्यकता हो, तभी वह अपनी अर्जित शिक्षा को कार्यरूप में परिणत कर सकेगा.

छात्रावास के जीवन से जो शिक्षा विद्यार्थी सबसे अधिक ग्रहण करता है, वह है स्वावलम्बन. वह अपने पैरों पर खड़ा होना सीखता है. दूसरा लाभ उसे शान्त वातावरण का है. शहर के समस्त कोलाहल से दूर, घर-बार की समस्त चिन्ताओं से मुक्त विद्यार्थी को पढ़ाई का वास्तविक आनन्द आता है. स्वस्थ जलवायु में उसका स्वास्थ्य अच्छा बनता है. उसका मस्तिष्क विकसित होता है. वहां पर अपनी ही आयु के विद्यार्थी मिलते है जिनका मानसिक स्तर लगभग एक-सा होता है.

साथ भोजन करने से संगठन और सहयोग की भावना जागृत होती है. भिन्न प्रकार की विपत्तियों को झेलने की क्षमता आती है. यही नहीं, उसको अपने सुप्त गुणों-दुर्गुणों का आभास मिलता है. वह अकेला रहने के कारण जान जाता है कि वह कितने पानी में है. सभी प्रकार के छात्रों के साथ रहने से अच्छे-बुरे का ज्ञान होता है.

छात्रावास में विद्यार्थी अपने गुरूजनों के हर समय सम्पर्क में रहता है. इससे उसको बात करने का तरीका आता है, ज्ञान की वृद्धि होती है. चरित्र-निर्माण के लिए छात्रावास अति आवश्यक है. यहां पर कड़े अनुशासन में नियमित जीवन व्यतीत करने से आज्ञापालन व नियमितता के गुण आते हैं.

विद्यार्थी का एक बना हुआ व सधा हुआ जीवन बन जाता है. बंधी हुई दिनचर्या से चरित्र उत्कृष्ट कोटि का होता है. छात्रावास में सब विद्यार्थी एक बड़े परिवार के समान रहते हैं. प्रेम, भाईचारा व सहयोग की भावनाएं स्फुटित होती हैं. एक-दूसरे के दुःखों में सहानुभूति पैदा होती है. एक-दूसरे की आलोचना से गुणों व दोषों की विवेचना की जाती है. सबसे बड़ी बात यह होती है कि विद्यार्थी दूसरों की सहायता के बिना कठिनाइयों का सामना करना सीखते हैं.

परन्तु छात्रावास जैसी उच्च संस्था भी बिना दोषों के नहीं है. चांद में भी दाग होता है. छात्रावास में छोटे-बड़े सभी प्रकार के विद्यार्थी प्रवेश करते हैं. बड़े विद्यार्थी की प्रवृत्तियां छोटे विद्यार्थियों से भिन्न होती हैं. अच्छा उदाहरण स्थापित करने के विपरीत वे छात्रों को अनियमित व उद्दण्ड बनाने का प्रयास करते हैं. स्वयं के दुर्गुण दूसरों को भी सिखा देते हैं. प्रायः छात्रावास के अधिकारी अपनी जिम्मेदारियां पूरी तरह से नहीं निभाते हैं. उनके निरीक्षण के अभाव में छात्र उद्दण्ड और शरारती हो जाते हैं. अकेले रहने से छात्र स्वेच्छाचारी और असामाजिक हो जाते हैं.

अतः अधिकारियों को चाहिए कि वे अपने कर्तव्यों का पालन कर छात्रावास का पुनीत नाम ऊंचा रखें. छात्रों पर माता-पिता जैसा संरक्षण रखें व उनके चरित्र को ऊंचे से ऊंचा बनायें.

Education is to prepare students in such a way that when they step out of their limited society into the real world they should be able to face life’s challenges and shoulder responsibilities. Hostels are a small world which teach us how to cooperate and develop the qualities of sportsmanship. In hostels, students become independent and self sufficient. There the students can not expect anything to be done for them. They have to do everything on their own. They become more disciplined as there is no one to pamper them. But many a times students miss their homes and the comforts of home. Strict disciplines of the hostels too become curbic and one feels like coming back to home. Hostels are a mixture of pain and pleasure but it should be a must for all the students to let him become more realistic.

Living in a hostel is a lesson in itself. While living at home the young does not turn into a self-dependent being for this thing and for that for little things even of personal nature, the young look up to the mother or the elder sister. They would keep the clothes in the wardrobe they would prepare the dress for the school and put it in order every morning, they would even arrange the school bag whether it contains all that is required the books and notebooks for the day, the pen with ink or lead and the pencil sharpened. The tiffin box should be got ready and then even the study table should be set right and of course, the bed to be put in order. The soap, the shampoo, the powder – toothpaste, the brush – the towel- all to be there in the bathroom. Someone should always be looking after all these items. So much dependence, so much no-care attitude, so much demanding, so much supplying this is normally to be found in every home. The young grows a little too indulgent.

Sent to the hostel, that one who had remained so much dependent for everything on his or her mother or elder sister or servants, finds himself, initially at a loss. How to adjust, how to manage, how to lookafter every thing by himself. The house-master would come for surprise inspection and he should find everything spic and span, everything in order no clothes lying on the bed all properly folded and kept in the wardrobe; the study table properly set – books and notebooks all kept arranged and the pen and pencil kept in the pencil box. The bed should have been well-set – no servant or maid to do it.

So this is a training in self-help which is the first and foremost lesson that one learns from the hostel life.

The other very important training is in discipline. Fixed hours and timings for everything time to leave the bed in the morning not that turning over sides while the mother cajoling to make you leave the bed or else would get late for school none to do that. A quick bath and dressing up, setting the school bag, nothing to be missed.

The bell rings calling each one to the dining hall for breakfast. The same menu for all no cringing, no crying that you like this and do not like that, or you want this or you want that. The menu, of course, would keep changing every morning new things added or served but the same for all. – –

It is a lesson learnt in developing a taste for all kinds of food a disciplining of the palate, which does not happen in the home. There the mother keeps caring what he or she likes more and what not.

The school hours, the lunch recess, the evening games, the dinner and completing the class work – all has to go on in a regulated daily manner. The mind has to get set to the pattern and any delay or divergence would go wrong.

Regulated way of life is another lesson that hostel life teaches. The most important lesson that hostel life gives is the training in corporate living – living together. It is a lesson in Social living; in Sociability; in learning the spirit of adjustment and accommodation. This is a great lesson which goes a long way in later life on the Social front.

Hostel life, thus has many things to learn, but there are, sometimes, many things that this life gives an occasion to, which can spoil one’s life.

At home, there is the mother, the father, sisters and brothers who give you company as also keep a watch on you. In the hostel if you catch company of bad boys and if there is some laxity in Superintendence you can fall into evil ways, take to drugs or indulge in late night cinerna shows and there is no one so concerned about you as a mother, a sister or a brother can be. The result can be a complete disaster in life.

Discipline is best that comes from within.Hostel life, thus, has many good things and make one’s life disciplined, organised and self-reliant but if the track goes wrong it would mean a derailment and a permanent damage.

In the hostel, a student has to lead a much-disciplined life. He has to get up early in the morning and take physical exercise or have a race according to schedule, depending upon rules and orders from the Principal or the warden. These days in some hostels yoga and meditation lessons are also given.

There are fixed times for various meals like breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the hostel. Usually, a bell is rung at the appropriate time. Meals are taken by the hostelers, class or block-wise or all together. The hostelers also play indoor games or watch T.V in the hostel hall together. This encourages interaction, mental trust, and help. In some hostels, TV sets may be provided in individual rooms of the hostelers. But that does not diminish the spirit of oneness and brotherhood which the hostel life provides with by its very nature. In some hostels, there may be AC rooms but that is not there in all hostels.

The commonest problem faced by students in most of the hostels is that of meals. Many students who live in hostels complain of poor food served at meals. They say that the food served is tasteless, unpalatable, and insipid. However, in hostels where the hostelers themselves manage the hostel mess and canteen on a cooperative basis and employ good cooks, the students can arrange the choicest food at reasonable rates, sometimes even better than that they get at home.

At the end of every month, they hold a meeting, discuss the mess accounts and elect a Manager for the succeeding month from among themselves. They eat foods of general nature. On Saturdays, they hold music and debates. On Sundays, they borrow books from the library of the hostel. Hostel-life suffers from the possible disadvantages. Lack of essential necessities and necessary provisions bears a very bad effect on hostel discipline.

I have studied in a school which requires students to be compulsorily boarders. To me, hostel life was a pleasure, but my parents were never too keen to send me there for a very long time. It was only when I turned fourteen that I was admitted to a boarding house. After all, a home is a home. But I tried to take advantage of my stay in a hostel. Why do students get an education? The purpose of education is to prepare students in such a way that when they step out of their limited society called school they should be able to face life’s challenges and shoulder responsibilities. They should be well-adjusted in society. It presents a life situation in a miniature form. There, they are taught how to cooperate and develop qualities of sportsmanship. They become independent and self-sufficient. In a hostel, every student is expected to work for himself. They cannot think of anyone else doing their work as they would normally expect at home. They become more disciplined as there is no one to pamper them. They have to say good-bye to sloth and they become active. They have to wash their own clothes, make their own bed, etc. They have to take good care of their health. Whenever they are ill, they have to remember to take their medicines in time. In a hostel, I started doing all these things myself. I found myself becoming more and more responsible. But once you start living in a hostel you miss home a lot. I felt lonely and miserable at times. The food in the dining hall was unpalatable and I began to lose weight. I used to often have an upset stomach and I missed the comforts of home a lot. At times the strict discipline of the hostel becomes too curbing and one feels like breaking away from the chains of hotel life. I do find hostel life great fun because I got to stay with my friends twenty-four hours a day and enjoy all school activities with them, but I did find myself craving for home life too. So, hostel life is a mixture of pain and pleasure, but it is greatly recommended for all students.

जो कुछ भी स्वयं से बढ़ता है और उसका स्वयं का मेटाबोलिज्म (चय-पचय) होता है, उसे जीवित या जीवन के रुप में माना जाता है। मनुष्य, जानवर, कीड़े, सुक्ष्म जीव, पौधे ये सभी जीवित है या इनमें जीवन होता है। ग्रह पर बहुतायत मात्रा में जीवन उपलब्ध है, लेकिन इनकी गुणवत्ता क्या मायने रखती है? जीवन की गुणवत्ता, विशेषता विभिन्न इंद्रियों द्वारा पहचाना जाता है, इसके बारे में हम इस निबंध में चर्चा करेगें।

जीवन का सच्चा मूल्य

हम अपने चारों ओर विभिन्न प्रकार के जीवन से घिरे हुए है। पौधों, जानवरों, कीड़ों, पक्षियों, उभयचरों आदि सहित अन्य अरबों प्रजातियां इस ग्रह पर है, प्रत्येक और हर एक का जीवन, चाहे वह कितना भी छोटा क्यों न हो, सबका एक महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है, इनका अपना ही एक मूल्य है और ये इस पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र में अपने तरीके से अपना योगदान देते है। लेकिन कुछ अलग मूल्यों और गुणों के कारण मानव जीवन को दूसरों की तुलना में अधिक मूल्यवान माना जाता है, जो अस्तित्व में एक दूसरे के मूल्यों से जोड़ता है।

मानव अस्तित्व के सही और सच्चे मूल्यों को समझने के लिए, सिर्फ खाने और काम करने का अलावा हमें जीवन को अलग-अलग दृष्टिकोण से देखने की आवश्यकता है। जीवन का सच्चा अर्थ है कि दूसरों की रक्षा करें और उसकी हमेशा मदद करें। सौभाग्य से मनुष्यों को असाधारण बुद्धि और दिमाग के साथ निपुणता के उपहार एक साथ दिया गया है, और ऐसा कोई अन्य प्राणी इस ग्रह पर नहीं है। केवल मनुष्य ही आवश्यकता के समय के साथ एक दूसरे की सहायता कर सकता है, और साथ ही साथ अन्य जीवित प्राणीयों की आवश्यकता पड़ने पर मदद करने की क्षमता रखता है।

मानव जीवन का यही सबसे बड़ा मूल्य है, जो मनुष्य धारण किए हुए है। दूसरे शब्दों में कहें तो जीवन का सच्चा मूल्य दूसरों के लिए कितने मदद का मूल्य अपने अंदर रखता है। एक ऐसे पेड़ के उदाहरण पर चर्चा करते है जो दशकों से सूरज और बारिश से अपनी टहनियां को दूर रखता आ रहा है। उस पेड़ का जीवन निश्चित रुप में काफी मूल्यवान है। इसी प्रकार पेड़ की तरह अपने जीवन के मूल्यक को प्राप्त करना चाहते है तो हमेशा दूसरों की सेवा, प्यार और देखभाल करने में अपने जीवन को खर्च करे।

जीवन में मूल्यों को कैसे जोड़े ?

अब जब हमने जीवन के सही मूल्यों के बारे में जान लिया है कि इसका सही मूल्य क्या है, तो अब हम उनके परिवर्तनों के बारे में चर्चा करेगें जिससे की हम अपने जीवन को अधिक मूल्यवान बनाने के लिए उन्हें अपना सकें। जीवन में मूल्यों को जोड़ना सबकुछ नही है, बल्कि अपने दृष्टिकोण में परिवर्तन करना है। आपको बस दूसरों को देखने और अपने देखने के तरीकों में बदलाव करना पड़ेगा। नीचे कुछ बदलाव के बारे में चर्चा की है जिन्हें आप अपने जीवन के मूल्यों में जोड़ने के लिए अपना सकते है।

बहिर्मुखी बनें

आप खुद को केवल अपने तक ही सीमित न रखें, बल्कि दूसरों तक भी पहुंचे या दूसरों के संम्पर्क में भी रहे। उनसे जुड़कर आप उनकी समस्याओं, आकांक्षाओं इत्यादि के बारे में जानें। अपने पड़ोसियों से बात करे और उन्हें सामाजिक बनायें। जितना अधिक आप समाजिकरण करेगें आपके मूल्यों में उतनी ही वृद्धि होती रहेगी।

अपने जीवन को और अधिक मूल्यवान बनाने के लिए एक और तरीका है कि आप दूसरों को अधिक सम्मान दे – चाहे वह छोटा हो या बड़ा, अमीर हो या गरीब, बलवान हो या कमजोर सभी को सम्मान दें। यदि आप दूसरे सभी के साथ सम्मान का व्यवहार करेंगे तो आप न केवल अपने जीवन को सम्मान के लायक बनाएंगे बल्कि आप दूसरों के सम्मान को भी अर्जित कर सकेंगे।

विचारशील और सहायक बनें

आपको हमेशा दूसरों की पीड़ा और जरूरतों के प्रति विचारशील होने की आवश्यकता है, केवल इंसानों के प्रति ही नहीं बल्कि जानवरों के लिए भी यही भाव रखना चाहिए। उनकी मदद करें, समर्थन करें और उनकी समस्याओं के प्रति दया भाव रखें।

दूसरे के जीवन को भी महत्व दें

आप जितना ही अधिक मूल्य अन्य के जीवन को देगें, उतना ही अधिक मूल्य आप खुद के लिए भी जोड़ेंगे। यह एक तरह से लेन-देन का रिश्ता होता है। अन्य के जीवन से मेरा मतलब है मनुष्यों के साथ-साथ पशुओं, पौधों, पक्षियों आदि के जीवन से हैं।

एक साहसी व्यक्ति खड़े होकर अपने जीवन और साथ ही दूसरों के जीवन के लिए भी बोल सकता है। इसके विपरीत किसी में साहस की कमी का मतलब है कि अपने जीवन को डर और निराशा में बिताना। ऐसे जीवन का मतलब न तो खुद के लिए कोई महत्व है और न ही यह दूसरों के लिए किसी काम का है।

जीवन की परिभाषा बहुत ही विशाल है, और यह कई मामलों में एक दूसरे से बहुत ही अलग हो सकती है, लेकिन जीवन का सारांश यह है कि – “जीवन का अनुमान नहीं लगाया जा सकता कि यह कितनी लंबी है, लेकिन यह कितना मूल्यवान है ये हम ही तय करते है”।

With Vice President Kamala Harris having replaced President Biden on the Democratic ticket, her stances on key issues will be scrutinized by both parties and the nation’s voters.

She has a long record in politics: as district attorney of San Francisco, as attorney general of California, as a senator, as a presidential candidate and as vice president.

Here is an overview of where she stands.

Ms. Harris supports legislation that would protect the right to abortion nationally, as Roe v. Wade did before it was overturned in 2022, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

After the Dobbs ruling, she became central to the Biden campaign’s efforts to keep the spotlight on abortion, given that Mr. Biden — with his personal discomfort with abortion and his support for restrictions earlier in his career — was a flawed messenger. In March, she made what was believed to be the first official visit to an abortion clinic by a president or vice president.

She consistently supported abortion rights during her time in the Senate, including cosponsoring legislation that would have banned common state-level restrictions, like requiring doctors to perform specific tests or have hospital admitting privileges in order to provide abortions.

As a presidential candidate in 2019, she argued that states with a history of restricting abortion rights in violation of Roe should be subject to what is known as pre-clearance for new abortion laws — those laws would have to be federally approved before they could take effect. That proposal is not viable now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe.
