Phd in PHILOSOPHY

Presentation.

The Ph.D. program offers a rich course of studies in the various areas of philosophy and in the history of philosophy. The Ph.D. consists in a three year program and aims at educating internationally qualified researchers in philosophy in its various branches. The first year is devoted to the acquisition of a strong scientific ground especially in the area of the student’s interests and to a more precise definition of the research topic. During the next two years the student widens her knowledge in the chosen field and gains the skills to develop autonomously an original research project, also by participating to national and international conferences and study periods at outstanding research institutions abroad. The preparation of the final dissertation is supervised by at least two professors from the Ph.D. Faculty. The PhD program is articulated in four curricula :

curriculum D - History of Philosophy aims at educating qualified researchers in the field of the history of philosophy together with a wider perspective of the history of ideas. A qualifying aim is the acquisition and the use of interdisciplinary methodological tools - historical and philosophical, philological, literary and linguistic - and also of computer technologies applied to text analysis (in print and manuscript form).

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele is traditionally committed to the development of original and ground-breaking philosophical investigation through lines of research that are constantly and fruitfully intertwined, though following different philosophical traditions and methodologies. Its philosophical research stems from the research centers, which support and promote several activities in the areas of ethics and political philosophy, phenomenology, philosophy of mind and language, gender studies, metaphysics and aesthetics, history of ideas. Some of these research lines, in particular philosophy of mind and language, decision theory and rationality theory, gender studies, phenomenology and ethics, are characterized by significant interdisciplinary interactions with scientific studies.

Research methodologies include historical-philosophical investigation, conceptual analysis, experimental methods, and the most advanced investigation techniques in neuroscience. Each research center carries out its own research in compliance with its own aims and methodologies, but fosters the equal availability of methods of inquiry and conceptual tools to graduate students, so as to encourage young scholars to hold an interdisciplinary approach, aimed at developing original and well-argued syntheses concerning various dimensions of human life and experience.

The University of Padua coordinates 40 separate PhD Programmes; every year it welcomes between 500 and 600 new candidates, with approximately 1600 PhD candidates enrolled in a three/four-year degree programme.

In order to apply for a PhD Course applicants must be in possession of a 2nd cycle degree (laurea magistrale or laurea magistrale a ciclo unico. They are also required to pass an entrance examination. An  International PhD guide  is now available

BMCS is a three-year interdisciplinary Ph.D. program taught in English in the domain of computer science and psychology around the unifying theme of user-centered technologies.

About the programme

Applications are invited from interested candidates for the Degree of MPhil (Business) offered through the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. MPhil (Business) is a Master’s by thesis which aims to facilitate students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills required to be independent researchers and opens up a learner-centred pathway leading to a rigorous research project in the field of Business. Once enrolled students are required to successfully complete four non-credit taught courses and two workshop series parallel to which their research project will commence under the guidance of a supervisor.

Eligible for Registration:

Applicants who possess one of the following minimum qualifications and good knowledge of English are eligible to apply for the Degree of MPhil (Business) programme:

• Has a First‐Class or Second‐Class (Upper Division) Special/Honours Degree in Business Administration/Management or any other field in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 6 of SLQF) with a substantial research component;
• Has a First-Class or Second-Class (Upper Division) Special/Honours Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or similar discipline with a minimum of 30 credits in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 6 of SLQF) and with a substantial research component;
• Has an M.Sc. (Management), MBA or any other Master’s degree in the broad area of Management Studies with a substantial research component (equivalent to the level 10 of SLQF);
• Has an M.A. in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or any other Master’s degree in a similar discipline with a substantial research component related to the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 10 of SLQF);
• Has a First-Class or Second-Class (Upper Division) Special Degree in Business Administration/Management or any other field in the broad area of Management Studies with at least three-year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
• Has an M.Sc. (Management), MBA or any other Master’s degree in the broad area of Management Studies (equivalent to the level 9 or above of SLQF) with at least one year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
• Has an M.A. in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or any other Master’s degree in a similar discipline (equivalent to the level 9 or above of SLQF) with at least one year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
• Has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management or in a similar discipline (equivalent to the level 8 of SLQF) with at least two-year experience as a researcher or academic and/or with proven track record of publications in the broad area of Management Studies;
• Has any other qualifications that can be accepted by the Senate of the University according to the minimum admission requirement/s of SLQF.
