âThe Love Experimentâ Is a Dating App IRL
Published Aug. 15 2023, 8:56 p.m. ET
In 2023, most Millennials and Gen Zers are meeting through dating apps. Whether that's Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, or even Raya (If you have a referral, let us know), if you are single, you are swiping right to find love. MTV took this concept and ran with it.
In their newest show, The Love Experiment , MTV basically made a dating app IRL. The premiere season stars three Atlanta-based best friends, Marcia, Paige, and Tamara as they swipe right, or rather click a button to find love.
How does it work? Let's find out!
How does âThe Love Experimentâ work?
The Love Experiment is described as, "The ladies are in charge on this reality series as BFFs Tamara, Paige, and Marz check out eligible men in The Hall, a dating app brought to life, and get to know their potential soulmates through outings, challenges and advice from love expert Mari."
In The Hall, all 24 eligible suitors are there waiting in their own "profile," which is made to resemble that of a dating app profile filled with pictures and objects that are there to symbolize different aspects of their life. The men are also physically there waiting in their own window display, for lack of a better word.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by MTV Shows (@mtvshows)
In the preview clip posted on MTV's Instagram, we see the three besties enter The Hall for the first time like kids in a candy store. We hear a voice say, "I love it here" as the ladies peruse their options. A voiceover tells us that the ladies will visit The Hall multiple times during this "experiment" and have all the power in deciding who they want to go on dates with. It appears that the number of men they can choose is limited, with them only being able to pick three people each in the preview clip.
The men in The Hall aren't able to hear the women. One of the leads, Paige, told the New York Post , "We donât want to catcall. But when women are the ones doing it, like âYou know what, he does have a nice six-pack,â thatâs fun because thatâs the stuff as women that we do amongst each other. To do it to their faces is like, âGreat! Iâm glad youâre here to see my reaction to you."
So, how do the ladies select the men? The trailer for The Love Experiment shows that each man has a tablet in front of his "profile," and the ladies click a button with their name on it to choose them.
What if they both want the same man? That didn't happen. Marcia told the New York Post , "It was never going to be like âWe both want him.â It was more like âGirl, go get your man!â It was never a competition amongst us, it was all love and guidance among friends.â
As far as what happens after that, well, your guess is as good as ours. Like, are there eliminations? Does everyone live in the same house? Do the friends vet any of your potential suitors? We'll all just have to tune in to find out!
Catch new episodes of The Love Experiment on MTV every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST.

Which Love Is Blind UK Couples Are Still Together?
Netflixâs Love Is Blind UK is finally hereâand so far, itâs honestly everything we could have hoped it would be.
The British version has all of the hallmarks of the American original and the countless international spin-offs. Donât worry: The golden goblets, windowless pods, and cringe-worthy proposal poems are all still prominent features.
But, of course, the British contestants have added their own little spin on the dating show . As one viewer put it, âDating your possible cousinâoh Love Is Blind UK you have bewitched me.â
This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
The first nine episodes have dropped on Netflix, and the couples have officially gone through the infamous pod stage of the âdating experiment.â In the pods, singles meet and date without ever seeing each other. Then they become engaged and get the chance to meet each other for the first time. In the first season of Love Is Blind UK , hosted by Emma and Matt Willis , six different couples became engaged, with five setting off on their âhoneymoonâ in Greece.
The final episodes will drop on August 21st. Obviously, the contestants canât reveal if theyâre still together until all of the episodes are released. But if you canât wait to know what happens, weâve done a little digging to find out as much as we can about which couples made it to the Love Is Blind finish line-slash-altar.
So which Love is Blind UK couples are still together?
Bobby and Jasmine
Although Jasmine was initially torn between Bobby and Sam, she eventually trusted in her sweet connection with Bobby. After he delivered a rap (this is Love Is Blind after all), the pair became engaged. In the final moments of the first installment, the pair can be seen setting off for Greece.
We donât know if the pair are still together now, but according to a few snippets in the Netflix teaser trailers, Jasmine does appear to make it to her weddingâhowever, she is shown crying at the altar. Whether these are happy or sad tears, weâll have to wait and see.
Freddie and Catherine
Catherine started her journey in a love triangle with Ollie and Freddie but eventually became engaged to Freddie, the funeral director (and yes, there is a teeny tiny chance they could be cousins).
We donât know for sure what happens yet, but based on the teaser trailers, the pair do make it to the altar.
âToday is my wedding day. Itâs crazy even saying that,â says Catherine in one trailer.
We also see a clip of Freddie standing at the end of the aisle anxiously. However, another clip does show Catherine walking away from the ceremony taking off her veil.
Five weeks ago, Cat posted a picture of herself on Instagram, writing, âI think I like this little life.â Whether that life still includes Freddie or not, weâll have to wait and find out.
Instagram content
Ollie and demi.
Ollie was drawn to Demi in the pods, and after ruling out his connection with Catherine, the pair became engaged.
By the looks of things, weâre in for a bumpy ride with this couple too.
During their honeymoon in Greece, Demi says, âI really feel like heâs the one.â However, we then see Ollie meeting Catherine and saying, âYouâre a very pretty girl,â to which she replies, âThank you, youâre a good-looking guy.â
Later, Demi confesses, âIâm worried that Cat might be his type.â
Nevertheless, Ollie does appear to make it to the altar, so weâll have to wait and see if the pair decided to tie the knot.
Tom and Maria
Sweet, Birkenstock-wearing Tom fell for Maria in the pods. Although he also had a connection with Tash, he and Maria got engaged and set off for Greece.
So what do we know from the trailers? Well, Maria confesses, âIâve never felt as secure with someone as I have with Tom; he really is the most amazing man.â
We also see a clip of Tom at the end of the aisle, seemingly down on one knee, saying, âI really canât wait to go further with you. I love you.â
Steven and Sabrina
Steven and Sabrina were the first couple to get engaged after a strong initial pod attraction. Although their relationship started well, the trailers tease some tension.
âNo one gets married thinking that theyâre going to get divorced, but itâs just too soon,â says Sabrina in one dramatic moment.
Sabrina posted a video on Instagram announcing her role in Love Is Blind UK, and we did spot a couple of rings on her left handâŠbut whether they were wedding rings, we simply cannot say.
Sam and Nicole
Nicole was torn between Benaiah and Sam. After Sam seemed hesitant to commit to marriage, she turned her focus to Sam. Although Benaiah warned Nicole that Sam might be on the show for fame rather than for love, the pair became engaged.
However, after meeting face-to-face, the couple decided to call off their engagement. But this isnât the end of the road for Sam. After Sam meets up with Benaiah, the couple realizes they have been meant to be all along.
âIâve lost you once, I donât want to lose you again,â he says, asking her to marry him. She accepts, and the couple even gets to join the rest of the lovebirds in Greece.
Thatâs a happy endingâŠfor now, anyway.

‘The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs’ – Tananarive Due & Kelsey Ramsay Unleash Werewolf Horror Comic
Award-winning writer Tananarive Due ( The Reformatory ) and rising star artist Kelsey Ramsay  ( Dark Spaces: Good Deeds ) join forces for The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs , a new werewolf horror comic that’s coming soon from Image Comics.
Moon Dogs is part of The Horizon Experiment series of one-shot comics, which are essentially “the equivalent of TV pilots, with the goal of launching full series based on demand.”
Hitting shelves in November, Moon Dogs is the third comic in The Horizon Experiment series of one-shots, all centering on original protagonists from marginalized backgrounds set in a popular genre, led by Eisner and Harvey Award-winning The Good Asian and Infidel creator Pornsak Pichetshote .
Each comic in the line is a diverse take on a popular genre or beloved character, and Moon Dogs follows a family of Black Lycanthropes of East African descent.
Co-edited by Pichetshote and award-winning editor Will Dennis ( Somna, Gideon Falls ), The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs follows a Black family of lycanthropes of East African descentâwho call themselves Moon Dogsâas older sister Nala, her parents, and her boyfriend try to protect her teen brother Kai as he gets caught in the middle of a burgeoning war between a savage pack of werewolves and the Miami police force. After a violent attack, Miami locals are starting to learn that werewolves are not just a myth, and Nalaâs familyâwho are minorities within a minorityâfind themselves drawn into a very dangerous situation.
Moon Dogs marks Dueâs first solo full-length writing endeavor in comics; an acclaimed fiction writer, Due has won an NAACP Image Award, World Fantasy Award, a British Fantasy Award, and much more. Sheâs joined by breakout artist Ramsay in her first Image Comics series.
The horror one-shot features stunning colors by José Villarrubia and sharp letters by Jeff Powell .
âAs a writer who is known for novels and short storiesâand who has written screenplaysâdelving into comics has been the best of both worlds: granting me the immediacy and freedom to tell stories my way, and the benefit of working with talented collaborators to bring the images to life on the page,â said Due. â Moon Dogs is an homage to my roots in Miami, where I grew up and worked as a newspaper reporter. Anyone who has been to Miami knows that its eclectic population is the perfect home for undercover werewolvesâlike, OF COURSE.â
Continued Due, âWith great guidance from my editors, Pornsak and Will, I wanted to tell a story of what it feels like to feel doubly marginalizedâand also how we can learn to exercise power without being corrupted by it. The great thing about comics, as in Hollywood, is that the script is only the starting point for the story, so seeing the thrilling illustrations by Kelsey Ramsay and the great artistic team is like getting a movie adaptation in record time. I’m so excited to share it!”
âIt wasn’t difficult deciding whether I wanted to be a part of The Horizon Experiment . An innovative and inspiring group of creators that are undertaking something original and exciting, you say? It was a fast yes for me. Tananariveâs vivid and character-rich Moon Dogs script solidified that decision tooâit made me feel like I was right there in Miami hunched between the rival werewolf clans,â said Ramsay. âIt was so much fun and such a pleasure to work on. I’m so happy this fresh take on lycanthrope horror was created by Tananarive and supported by powerhouse editors Pornsak and Will. It came together with incredible collaborators JosĂ© doing colours and Jeff doing letters. It’s an honour to be a part of this project.â
“I’m jealous of readers discovering Tananarive and Kelsey’s work for the first time. Her latest novel was praised by no less than Stephen King and now she’s bringing her uniquely intimate mythology building skills and lyrical prose to comics,â said Pichetshote. âMeanwhile, in a very short time, Kelsey has rocketed up every comics editor’s radar to the degree you’ll be seeing her in non-stop high-profile projects soon. So, watching these two combine their awesome talents to create something distinctly unique has been an utter delight. I can’t wait for readers to discover the world of Moon Dogs.”
The Horizon Experiment: Moon Dogs #1 will be available at comic book shops on November 20 , as well as digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

- MAFS experts have not changed in years, leading to lackluster results for couples on the show.
- Season 18 may face clout chasing issues, with questionable pasts of some cast members revealed.
- The casting process for MAFS has remained the same, despite past seasons having problematic outcomes.
Married At First Sight season 18 is coming soon, but many believe that the season will be bad for the franchise because of the several potential red flags that have already been previewed. With nearly 20 seasons of the series having aired, Married At First Sight viewers typically know what to expect when it comes to a new season. The cast members, who traditionally have their Instagram accounts private to keep themselves safe during the airing of a new season, are introduced as they walk down the aisle to marry their new partners.
Although Married At First Sight’s success rate for its marriages has been higher in the past, in recent seasons the show has suffered tremendously in terms of the relationships on the series lasting after the cameras stop rolling. Early on in Married At First Sight ’s run, there were many couples who transitioned from being matched up in complete secrecy to genuinely committing to functional marriages. In recent years, only one marriage has made it through the series and come out on the other side successfully .
With such a poor success rate, many have been hopeful that MAFS would change its ways. The panel of experts that works on the show is comprised of longtime cast member Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Pastor Cal Roberson, and Dr. Pia Holec, but their advice on the series has been less-than-helpful to the couples in recent years. While the experts can only do so much about the couples and the way they function outside of sessions together, their advice has been lackluster in recent years , even pushing some viewers to disinterest in the show.
Even with the Married At First Sight experts working diligently to create successful couples that will go the distance after the cameras have stopped rolling, things have been difficult on the show for years. With cast members coming to MAFS with disingenuous reasons behind their desire to be on the reality TV experiment , many have been accused of chasing clout in the past rather than actually wanting to find love on the show. While some are clout chasers, others simply want to ensure that their reputation isn’t destroyed on reality TV.
Although Married At First Sight season 17 seemed like it was a genuine iteration of the series, it came out toward the end that the cast had been faking the majority of their experience on the show. A first in the MAFS world, it became clear that the show needed a complete overhaul moving forward . Unfortunately, Married At First Sight season 18 was filmed before the production team behind MAFS found out about the previous cast’s deception, which means it’s likely that the upcoming season will be as bad if not worse than the rest.
20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
8 The MAFS Experts Have Not Changed
They’ve been problematic.
While Married At First Sight has had different experts throughout the show’s run, t he core group of experts hasn’t changed in the last several seasons which has created issues for the cast. The MAFS cast members in recent years have had the pleasure of working with guest experts, who are brought in from season to season sometimes to help the experts work on their marriages and guide them in the right direction. Even so, the panel of experts staying the same for MAFS season 18 makes things difficult.
While Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pia, and Pastor Cal all have expertise in relationships and human behavior in their own right, the formulas they’re using to help the MAFS couples isn’t working out for them. Though they’ve tried to add in other cast members and relationship experts to help, there’s clearly a problem at the core of the group. Without new Married At First Sight experts in place, it’s probable the show will be similar to the last disastrous season.
7 There Is One Problematic Cast Member In MAFS Season 18
There’s a confirmed clout chaser.
Although the season hasn’t premiered yet, the Married At First Sight season 18 cast has been revealed online and one of the cast members has a past that makes him seem like a clout chaser. Ikechi, who will be one of the grooms featured on Married At First Sight season 18, appears to have auditioned for the series in another city in the past, and has been involved in other reality TV shows as well. While that doesn’t necessarily make him a clout chaser, Ikechi’s past is suspicious .
While there’s been a decent track record for the cast members who are simply interested in reality TV finding success on MAFS, the clout chasers on the show are always obvious and irritating to viewers . Many find their stories tend to lack substance and hinder those who are actually on the show to find love. The potential for clout chasing on MAFS season 18 is high, which is irksome for viewers.
6 MAFS Season 18 Could Have Another Runaway Bride
One bride may not commit.
Married At First Sight season 17 had a never-before-seen historic event when one of the brides found themselves unable to commit to their marriage after walking down the aisle . While her identity hasn’t been revealed by MAFS, the bride was dubbed the Runaway Bride. Set to marry Michael Shiakallis, the Runaway Bride explained that she couldn’t go through with the wedding and left Michael at the altar.
While the drama of the Runaway Bride was interesting, it cut into the season considerably and left Michael alone until he was matched with Chloe Brown . The Runaway Bride may have been interesting on MAFS season 17, but a repeat of the same thing wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. From the Married At First Sight season 18 trailer, it looks like there could be another instance where a groom is left at the altar .
5 The MAFS Casting Process Has Not Changed
No one has taken accountability.
The casting process for MAFS , much like the casting process for other reality TV dating shows, starts with a long questionnaire that asks some incredibly in-depth questions. Having applicants share information about their lives, jobs, family history, health, and preferences in their partners, MAFS looks into what the applicants want, what they've done, and how they put themselves out there before choosing to bring them onto the series. Even with an in-depth questionnaire, t he casting process seems questionable on MAFS.
After a difficult season on Married At First Sight season 17 that had the cast members admitting by the end that they’d duped everyone on the show, including production and the experts, it’s clear the casting process needs a revamp. The casting team may need to ask more in-depth questions or run more psychological checks before bringing the cast members onto the show. Unfortunately, MAFS season 18’s casting process didn’t change from the season prior.
4 MAFS Is Returning To The Same City
The show isn’t making geographic changes.
With Married At First Sight moving from city to city each season, some of the fun is seeing a new place, new people, and new norms. For example, some of the cities in the more northern part of the US tend to have more relaxed dating norms, while the southern cities are more traditional. Observing the cultural differences surrounding dating is part of the fun of MAFS season.
Married At First Sight season 18 will be returning to a city the show has been to before. Heading back to Chicago, which was featured on Married At First Sight season 5, the show will be tackling the same city for a second time. While things have changed in the near-decade since MAFS has been back in Chicago , it’s irritating to some fans who look for different things in each season that the same city will be revisited.
3 MAFS Season 18 Could Go Too Long
It’s likely similar to mafs season 17.
Each season of Married At First Sight covers two months for the cast members, but it’s surprising when year after year, the seasons have more episodes. MAFS seasons used to have around 20 episodes, but in recent years they’ve skyrocketed to over 30 episodes in a season, which can be taxing on viewers. Married At First Sight season 17 had 35 episodes , which left viewers exhausted by the series by the end of the season.
With MAFS season 18 following a similar formula to the previous season , many are wondering if it will have a similar number of episodes even though the series rarely needs more than 20 episodes to cover the stories of the cast members. While more episodes does prolong the drama of a season, viewers can become tired by the amount of MAFS from season to season. MAFS season 18 could likely go on far too long.
2 MAFS Season 18 Likely Won't Have Replacement Couples
There will only be the original pairs.
During Married At First Sight season 17, a replacement bride was brought in for Michael when he had to deal with the Runaway Bride creating chaos on his wedding day and depriving him of the full MAFS experience. Rather than having Michael return to another season, the experts matched him with Chloe and gave them a bit shorter of a time in their marriage, hoping they’d be able to match well. While Michael and Chloe didn’t make a good match , the pair had the opportunity to explore their relationship.
Michael and Chloe’s situation isn’t common, but bringing in a replacement for a runaway spouse is a decent option for the experts, should someone decide to drop out of their wedding. While there appears to be a runaway bride on Married At First Sight season 18, it’s likely there won’t be any replacement couples or spouses on the series . Instead, the original pairs will make up the entirety of the cast.
1 MAFS Has No System For Identifying Clout Chasing
They don’t look into cast members’ backgrounds.
Although Married At First Sight typically has issues with cast members applying to the show and coming off as clout chasers , the series doesn’t have any sort of system to identify clout chasing. MAFS season 17 had a few cast members that many felt were clout chasers , but there was no way to actually figure out if they were genuine during the season. In the casting process, the team could’ve done some work to figure it out, but didn’t bother.
With clout chasing an issue for the show, Married At First Sight should prioritize putting together a way to identify clout chasers and keep them off the show. MAFS season 18 appears to already have one clout chaser on the series, which could make things difficult in that marriage and appear off to the audience. Married At First Sight needs to make some changes moving forward, and may need to count the upcoming season as a wash.

Married At First Sight
Based on the Danish version of the series, Married at First Sight is a reality show/social experiment that gives singles a chance to find a lifelong partnership with one particular caveat: they must agree to marry a stranger arranged the moment they meet. Experts provide counseling and guidance as they help couples navigate their new marriage with their unknown partner and highlight the journey of the newlyweds from wedding to honeymoon to beginning their new lives together. At the end of eight weeks, couples will decide to stay married or divorce.

Lainey wilson’s career felt like a ‘whirlwind.’ on her new album, she makes sense of life and love.
NEW YORK â Itâs late July. Lainey Wilson is somewhere in Iowa, holding a real road dog - her French bulldog named Hippie - close to her chest. Sheâs on her tour bus, zipping across the Midwest, just another day in her jet set lifestyle. Next month, sheâll release her fifth studio album, the aptly named âWhirlwind,” a full decade after her debut record. Today, like every day, sheâs just trying to enjoy the ride.
âItâs been a journey,” she reflects on her career. âIâve been in Nashville for 13 years and I tell people Iâm like, it feels like I got there yesterday, but I also feel like Iâve been there my whole life.â
Wilson is a fast talker and a slow success story. She grew up on a farm in rural Baskin, Louisiana. As a teenager, she worked as a Hannah Montana impersonator; when she got to Nashville in early adulthood, she lived in a camper trailer and hit countless open mic nights, trying to make it in Music City. It paid off, but it took time, really launching with the release of her 2020 single, âThings a Man Oughta Know,â and her last album, 2022âs âBell Bottom Country” - a rollicking country-rock record that encompasses Wilsonâs unique âcountry with a flareâ attitude.
âI had always heard that Nashville was a 10-year town. And I believe âThings a Man Oughta Knowâ went No. 1, like, 10 years and a day after being there,” she recalls. âI should have had moments where I should have packed it up and went home. I should have went back to Louisiana. But I never had those feelings. I think thereâs something really beautiful about being naive. And, since I was a little girl, Iâve always had stars in my eyes.â
These days, sheâs a Grammy winner, the first woman to win entertainer of the year at the CMAs since Taylor Swift in 2011 (she took home the same award from the Academy of Country Music), sheâs acted in the hit television show âYellowstoneâ and in June, she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
“I was 9 years old when I went to the Opry for the first time. I remember who was playing. It was Little Jimmy Dickens, Bill Anderson, Crystal Gayle, Phil Vassar, and I remember where I was sitting. I remember looking at the circle on stage and being like, âMan, Iâm going to, Iâm going to play there. Iâm gonna do this,â” she recalls.
Becoming a member is the stuff dreams are made of, and naturally, it connects back to the album.
âThe word that I could use to describe the last couple of years is whirlwind,â she says. âI feel like my life has changed a whole lot. But I still feel like the same old girl trying to keep one foot on the ground.”
“And so, I think itâs just about grasping on to those things that that truly make me, me and the artist where I can tell stories to relate to folks.â
If Wilsonâs life looks different now than it did a decade ago, those years of hard work have created an ability to translate the madness of her life and career to that of everyone elseâs: Like on âGood Horses,â the sole collaboration on âWhirlwind.” It features Miranda Lambert, and was written on Lambertâs farm, an uplifting track about both chasing dreams and coming home. Or âHang Tight Honey,â an ode to those who work hard for the ones they love.
Wilson has leveled up on this record, bringing writers out on the road with her as she continued to tour endlessly. Thatâs evident on the sonic experiment of âRing Finger,â a funky country-rock number with electro-spoken word.
Or âCountryâs Cool Again,â a joyous treatise on the genre and Western wearâs current dominance in the cultural zeitgeist.
âI think country music brings you home,â she says of its popularity. âAnd everybody wants to feel at home.â
Here on the back of the bus, Wilson is far from home - as she often is. But it is always on the mind, the place that acts as a refuge on âWhirlwind.â And thatâs something everyone can relate to.
âI hope it brings a little bit of peace to just everyday chaos, because we all deal with it ,â she says of the album. âEverybody looks different, but we all put our britches on the same one leg at a time, you know?â

Margaret Qualley is still keeping it weird: While she appeared in “Poor Things” as a science experiment gone wrong, Qualley is now literally shedding her skin for the co-lead role in the body horror film “ The Substance .” It’s already the most talked about thriller of the year.
The official synopsis for “The Substance” reads: “Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid). She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE SUBSTANCE. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twentysomething Sue (Margaret Qualley). The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?”
“The Substance” is produced by Working Title, Blacksmith, and A Good Story.
The director of photography on the film is Benjamin Kracun (“Promising Young Woman,” “Beast”), while co-editors are Fargeat, Jerome Eltabet (“Revenge”), and Valentin Feron. The music is composed by Raffertie (“I May Destroy You”), production design is led by Stanislas Reydellet (“Le Bal Des Folles”), and costume design comes from Emmanuelle Youchnovski (“La Belle Epoque”).
Moore told IndieWire’s Ryan Lattanzio that while her character does not have a “lot of dialogue,” the film is unprecedented in its “level of rawness and vulnerability.”
“The Substance” premieres September 20 in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
