Great mains, pity about the chips
Came for lunch with my sister. We loved our Thai-style mains which were amazing with lots of flavour, very impressive for a vegetarian restaurant.
But the service was below average and the chips were too terrible to finish.
When we arrived at 1.40, we had to wait 20 minutes while they got our table ready. OK, so we didn't have a reservation, but the restaurant was only half full. There was no reason to make us wait at all.
We ordered the chips as a side dish and they looked delicious. But, when we tasted them, they were overcooked and swimming in oil so we left most of them. We expected a lot more for $10!
When the waiter asked if everything was ok, we said we really didn't like the chips and he said 'That's funny, I love them' and that was it. He didn't offer us anything else or take them off our bill. Also, when we didn't leave a tip, he looked annoyed.
I was really excited about visiting Vega, and the mains were just fantastic, but the rest of the experience was really disappointing.

Gourmet Restaurant
For my sister's in law birthday, our familiy organized a dinner at a gourmet restaurant. It was my first time in a restaurant like that. Everyone was delighted. The service was excelled and the waiters was very welcoming.
As for the dishes, for me the portions were very small. But I think that's normal in gourmet restaurants?
I had a wonderful evening with my family in law.

one year back me and my pakistanian friend went a restaurant in Alqiusomah, Hafar-Albatin, KSA in order to had our dinner there, we have chosen this unnamed restaurant because it was looking very beautiful and attractive with a lot of dishes sticker, lights, and car parking from outside.
However, we entered the restaurant which was very quiet, clean, and some painting on the walls, air condition was working fine, then we checked the menu and ordered two prost chicken one spicy and other one is normal not spicy which it will contain, cheeps, sauce, and other relevant things. Furthermore, we have waited approximately for more than one hour surfing our mobile phones and speaking to each other.
suddenly, after more than one hour orders come a long with all other relevant things, but the chicken was looking in more red color not normal cooking color, and because I was starving I did not imagine or expect for a moment this red color is chili powder, so we start eating and from first bit of the taste we begin to cry in silent mode tears and running nose without voice, Hhhhhhhhhhh.
actually we were unable to eat even my friend wasn't too because of too much chili powder, additionally we spoke to the manager regarding what has happened, but unfortunately he did not took any action, promise to improve their services or offering discount for this orders while it was clear on the receipt that we ordered one spicy dish and one normal dish not spicy.
it was a bad experience for me because I did not enjoyed my dinner on that day, also we have paid approximately 34 riyals and left the restaurant and our orders there and have has biscuit and tea only for dinner, hhhhhhh.
A restaurant meal review
I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend, which doesn't know anything about my country. He lived in the United states and I live in Somalia. We decided to go and eat something. When we arrived the restaurant it was having two halls.
The first hall was full so we decided to go to the next one .The first hall view was nice but the second one was terrible. I didn't like it . There were no view gardens or flowers. It was like a room.
I decided to order shuwarma chicken and strawberry mojito. For my boyfriend he ord red sweet caramel and cold coffee . When the order arrived in our table it looks like so delicious and having aroma smell.
I started eating the shuwarma chicken but it wasn't smelling good it was terrible. The chicken inside the shuwarma was smelling in bad way like leftovers. The drink was nice.
For my boyfriend he was not complaining about anything. He ate his Caffe and ate his sweet.
I really disappointed, thanks
Yes, I have had a really bad meal in a restorant once, we went with my brother to a restorant near a place where we were working at that time and I’ve made the wrong choice to order a dish with some sheep guts in it, but unluky for me, the guts were undercooked and after a short time, I’ve started to feel sick with a strong stomach ache, so I wasn’t able to finish the job that day and I was feeling sick the rest of that day.
Thanks for the lesson.
Great site!
When I was in Syria ten years ago, my collegues and I decided to have lunch in family house restaurant which was amazing that time. When we arrived, the tables wasn't cleaned and we had to wait about 15 mintues. some ingredients on the menu wasn't ready yet, so we ordered one beefberger and one cola for each one. Also we ordered the chips as a side dish becuase they looked delicious. after half an hour waiting, the orders came and looked cold. we were shocked when we tasted the chips which were overcooked, oiled and terrible. we expected a lot more for 24$. this expereince was one of the worst of my life. we haven't tried this restaurnt once more.
I tried this restaurant this summer because it had vegetarian dishes (as shown on a large sign outside the place) and wanted to eat healthy.
With great surprise on the menu for vegetarians there were only pizza and chips so I tried the pizza that was really very good as well as beer.
The bill was 15 € and so everything went well, except for the appearance of healthy food.
So if you want to eat a good pizza this restaurant is fine, but if you are looking for a real vegetarian meal do not go there!
yesterday, me and my family visited in the x city. in the middle of our trip, we felt so hungry and we had to find a nearby restaurant. but, because we are in rare places, we didn't find a good restaurant. Honest review the restaurant is very dirty, uncomfortable, and pricy. the service is bad and the dishes are not good. So I and my sister preferred to not eat the dish and were still hungry, we were so disappointed and never went to back that restaurant again.
I went to Bora Bora Hotel during my vacation. When I was planning a trip I looking for hotels based on reviews. I paid attention on location because I want to find near a sea (the first line). I read all comments and chose the hotel. When I went there I was very happy because I saw the sea with my window. And I was able to heard the sound of the sea. However I didn’t like breakfasts the service was below average and numbers of the dishes were very small. There were few vegetables and fruits. A watermelon was not sweet. I thought that they had a bad variety of watermelon, but when I went shopping I bought one and it was very tasty and sweet. There also was a restaurant in the hotel. I ordered food and waited them for very long time. When I asked why I was waiting so long, the waiter answered that we had one cook. The next days I was seeing that the restaurant was empty. Conclusion if I come back in this country I won’t stay at this hotel.
A cafe review
Disappointing
I went to a cafe a few months ago and I ordered a cappuccino and a piece of correct cake.
My order got ready after 20 minutes. I told to the waitress I had my coffee wit out sugar but unfortunately it was put sugar in it and it was cold and tasted funny. The carrot cake was too sweet for me. it wasn't my cup of tea.
I paid for a cappuccino and a piece of cake around $15! They are too pricy.
My experience was disappointing and I'll never get back this cafe and don't recommend to everyone.
Restaurant meals
I usually like to eat outside the house with family members and friends, because this offers an enjoyable dining experience that is different from eating at home. It also provides a social atmosphere, and an opportunity for entertainment and relaxation away from home.
But, sometimes I face problems while eating in restaurants because I’m not familiar with fast food or the kind of dishes that are oily and full of calories.
In my country, people rather prefer fatty meals which is considered a general attitude for most clients. So, chiefs find themselves compiled to cook stuff that satisfies the vast majority of customers.
Sometimes, I decide to order appetizers and sweets, hopefully having fewer calories. But unfortunately, most of the restaurants tend to use too much carbs and oils with appetizers. The same issue with sweets where huge amount of sugar is used to prepare them.
Recently I’ve been trying my best to rely on the healthy meals that mom prepares in our cosine, to avoid any bothering situation caused by meals served in restaurants.

How to Write a Restaurant Review Essay
You’ve probably been to a restaurant, whether it was for dinner with family or friends or just because you were craving some delicious food. But have you ever stopped to think about what makes a great restaurant?
There are so many different things that can make or break your experience at a restaurant. It could be the ambiance, the food taste, or even how quickly it arrived at your table. And sometimes, you cannot know all these unless you read a restaurant review.
But even if you do not know how to write one, this article covers all you need to know about writing a restaurant review. Further, you will learn what makes a restaurant review stand out, be valuable, and score a high grade if asked to write one by your professor.
Generally, a restaurant review essay consists of three major parts; the introduction, body, and conclusion. Each section can be one or more paragraphs and has a distinctive role and information. Let’s see how these three parts play out and make the entire essay.
Major parts of a restaurant review essay
The introduction.
This is the first part of the review essay and gives a brief background on the spot. The information includes the name of the restaurant, location, and contact details in case you need to make reservations or get more information about the place before visiting it.
New Service Alert !!!
We are now taking exams and courses
Ideally, this is one paragraph, although sometimes it may be longer. However, aim for a concise section because it is a pacesetter to the review.
The body section is where you talk about what makes this place unique. You can start with an overview of the food served here by describing each item on their menu, followed by its price range.
Further, you can mention how good their service is compared to other restaurants in the city or state. You can also mention some interesting facts about this establishment, like whether they have won any awards from local authorities or not.
The Conclusion
The conclusion is the last part and sums up the entire review. It is also the section you restate your opinion and verdict about the joint.
How to Write an Effective Review
Even if it is your first time writing, or you have not perfected your art, these tips will help you to write an effective restaurant review essay
Choose a Restaurant
It is common knowledge the first step in writing an effective restaurant review essay is choosing a restaurant. However, your choice should be meticulous so that you do not find yourself lacking material to write about.
Ideally, you should choose one that has been around for some time, has received good reviews from others, or has received several awards from local newspapers or magazines. Further, look for an establishment offering different cuisines such as Chinese or Mexican. This way, you won’t be limited by only having one type of food to write on.
To find a restaurant, you can research the restaurant by visiting it, checking its website, or asking your friends if they have ever been there. You can also read online reviews from other customers who have visited this place. In addition, make sure that you check out each review carefully before deciding whether or not they are credible enough for you to use in your paper.
Start with a Draft
Now that you’ve chosen a restaurant, it’s time to write your review. You may be tempted to jump straight into it, but before writing anything down, take a few minutes to think about what you want to say.
What did you like and dislike about the food? How was their service? Did they have a great ambiance? Was it expensive or cheap? Write down these thoughts to be fresh in mind when writing your final draft.
If you’re unsure how many stars out of five this place deserves, just guess for now. Later, you can go over each section individually and decide exactly how many stars each rating should be worth.
Give background information about the restaurant
Spot reviews must have crucial details which help readers know where to find the place and what to expect.
Thus when writing a restaurant review, you’ll want to give your readers some background information about the restaurant. This includes;
- The name of the restaurant
- The location of the restaurant
- What kind of food do they serve (e.g., Asian fusion)
- How long they’ve been open and how popular they are
Clearly state your stand and view about the restaurant
If you have had a personal experience with the restaurant, it is recommended to express your viewpoint. But even if you have not, state it but be objective and professional by quoting other credible reviews.
To be perfect in this area, follow the following tips.
- Be honest with your review.
- Be fair with your review.
- Be specific about what you liked and disliked.
Avoid Using the “I” Pronoun Constantly
Despite a review being about your experience, excessive use of “I” makes it appear subjective. This is because when writing a restaurant review essay, the goal is to focus on the restaurant itself, not necessarily your personal experience with it.
However, you can include brief comments on your personal feelings, but they should be limited and used only when relevant and helpful to the reader. Your primary focus should be on describing what happened at the restaurant and how it affected you rather than focusing on yourself as an individual.
Include pros and cons
Your review must be objective and not subjective, which is achieved if you give both sides of the story. If you don’t like something about the restaurant, don’t be afraid to say But if there are some things that are great about the restaurant, make sure you mention them too.
Furthermore, ensure your paragraphs are well-structured and easy for readers to understand. For example, if there are three reasons why people should visit this restaurant, explain them one by one instead of all at once.
This separation helps readers understand each reason clearly without confusion or distraction from other points made in the paragraph before or after.
Restate your Stance in the Conclusion
The final paragraph of a restaurant review essay should restate your opinion and provide readers with a summary of the strengths and weaknesses you have identified. The last sentence of this paragraph should clearly state whether or not you would recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
Further, restating your stance is helpful because it helps you to reinforce your point. The reader will likely be able to recall what you have said in the beginning and then apply it to what you have said later on in this paragraph.
We hope this article has given you a better understanding of how to write a restaurant review essay. Remember that it’s always important to have an open mind when reviewing any business to give accurate information about your experience.
However, remember you can always revise your essay after you have completed it to add any other information or opinions that may have come up since you wrote the first draft. That way, by turning in your paper, your essay will read as though a restaurant connoisseur and chief critic wrote it.

The Ship Seafood Restaurant
Have you visited any interesting restaurants recently? – Tell us more about the restaurant. – Would you recommend the restaurant to others? Why? The best review will be published in our blog.
I recently discovered a very unique restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. I first went there with my family members and since then I have been going back regularly. The Ship Seafood Restaurant is indeed a well-known place for local foodies. This restaurant was established back in 1999 by two brothers who love to eat seafood and can cook seafood marvellously.
Decoration of restaurant
The restaurant is situated by a lake which is used as fish farm. The fish grown by the owners are organic, so they taste fresher and sweeter than those served in other restaurants. The indoor dining section, is decorated with pirate ship replicas and fishermen lanterns from the ceiling, while the sea deck outside is an open-air dining space with a stunning view of the lake.
Types of the food
The menu at the seafood restaurant was impressive, with a wide variety of seafood dishes to choose from. There are more than 100 types of seafood and non-seafood dishes. Patrons can choose to cook their favourite seafood in Malay, Thai or Western styles. I strongly recommend their delicious mixed seafood tom yum as you can taste all the seafood at one go.
Apart from that, their staff are very friendly and helpful. From the moment we walked in, they greeted us with a smile and seated us at a cozy table by the window. The staff at this seafood restaurant were all very knowledgeable and can easily recommend their signature or special dishes to you. They are trying their best to make sure we were enjoying in the restaurant. Overall, their service was top-notch and really made our dining experience enjoyable.
Review Coclusion
All-in-all, I would rate The Ship Seafood Restaurant 4.5 out of 5 stars. Its dining atmosphere, food and service quality are excellent. The prices for live seafood are slightly above average but other than that, it is quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend it to all seafood lovers!

This Is the Best Way to Write a Memorable Restaurant Review
A great restaurant review can point you toward your new favorite spot—or help you avoid a dining disaster. Review sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor have an abundance of restaurant reviews to browse, but if you spend any time on these sites you’ll notice not all reviews are helpful.
Some reviews are positive, but are so vague that you question their legitimacy. Some might have helpful information, but are so poorly written they’re unintelligible. And other submissions read more like a personal rant than a restaurant review.
Think you’re ready to share your own two cents? Don’t let your review fade into the background of mediocrity! In today’s post we’re sharing how to write a restaurant review that’s captivating, memorable, and useful for your fellow diners.
Here’s a tip: Want to make sure your writing always looks great? Grammarly can save you from misspellings, grammatical and punctuation mistakes, and other writing issues on all your favorite websites.
Here’s How to Structure a Memorable Restaurant Review
1 set the stage.
Let readers know immediately that the review contains useful information and is worth reading. Open the review with an enticing line that promises an interesting payoff (whether delicious or dreadful).
Next, share some context. Why did you decide to try this particular restaurant? What time of day did you go? What size was your party? How did the waitstaff treat you? What was the ambiance like?
It may look like your average neighborhood pizza joint, but Acme Pizza is anything but!
I wandered in with two friends on a Friday night, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of baking pizza. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7:00 pm) but we managed to snag a table.
2 Deliver the Main Course
How was the food? If a dish was “great,” be sure to describe why . What were the flavors, textures, and appearance like? Carefully select a few punchy adjectives for your descriptions—too few will leave your writing bland, too many will bog it down.
We ordered the garlic knots and two medium pies to share: the XX (pesto, artichoke, red onion, bacon, feta, mozzarella) and the XY (marinara, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mozzarella).
The garlic knots were little bombs of buttery, yeasty goodness, and the garlic was robust but not overpowering. When our pizzas arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded.
The crust was crisp, flavorful, and chewy. The toppings worked together beautifully. The marinara and pesto were packed with flavor, and the mozarella had a great consistency and very little oil. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit.
3 Wrap Up the Takeaway
End with a punchy summary of why you think other diners should (or shouldn’t) visit the restaurant. Don’t let appearances fool you—the decor may be divey, but the pies are fantastic. This place is perfect for groups or a casual date night.
5 Essential Tips for Writing a Memorable Restaurant Review
Now that you know the basics, follow these tips to ensure your reviews are always captivating!
1 Take Notes (and Pictures!)
To write a vibrant review, you’ll want to capture your thoughts and experiences while they’re still fresh. Use your smartphone or notebook during the meal to jot down highlights and subtler details (e.g., the wait staff was welcoming and attentive, you enjoyed the agricole rum in your cocktail, the tiramisu was soggy and disappointing).

2 Get Specific
Avoid vague words and phrases like “The service was bad” or “The pie was great.” Instead, provide specific details like, “The server was friendly but inexperienced and botched our drink order” or “The lemon meringue pie had a wonderfully flaky crust, a tart and tangy filling, and dreamy melt-in-your-mouth meringue.”
If you’ve visited a restaurant several times and only once had a bad experience, be sure to note this in your review. Everyone has an off night now and again.
. . .Also, if you love Korean cuisine and decide to try out the new Mexican-Korean fusion grill, please don’t write a review complaining how the bulgogi isn’t authentic enough.
4 Don’t Rant
Parking was an ordeal, you suffered through a long wait for your table, then endured a careless server and over-priced, disappointing food.
Writing a one-star Yelp review about “THE WORST PLACE EVER” may feel cathartic in the moment, but vague, emotion-laden reviews don’t carry much weight.
Instead, describe the specific details of why your experience was sub-par. This will help other diners make an informed decision on whether they should give the restaurant a chance—or a hard pass.
5 Remember to Proofread
Want folks to take your review seriously? Be sure your spelling and grammar are on point. A review riddled with errors is likely to be written off, ignored, or even misunderstood.

60 Good Restaurant Review Examples You Need to Know
In the digital age, a single glowing review can be the spark that ignites your restaurant's online reputation and turns curious browsers into eager diners. But let's face it - coaxing those coveted five-star ratings from satisfied customers can feel like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
Gone are the days when a simple "Please leave us a review" sufficed. Today's savvy restaurateurs need a nuanced approach to feedback cultivation that's as carefully crafted as their signature dishes.
Here's some food for thought: recent Birdeye research revealed that a whopping 73% of diners have a soft spot for local eateries. But before they'll grace your establishment with their presence, they're likely to digest 2-5 reviews. In our hyperconnected world, where opinions spread faster than the aroma of freshly baked bread, these digital testimonials have become the secret sauce of success.
Consider this: 95% of potential patrons now scour online reviews before making a reservation, and 88% trust them as much as (or more than) personal recommendations from friends and family. That's right - your online reputation could be more influential than word-of-mouth buzz!
So, how do you transform those fleeting moments of customer satisfaction into lasting digital accolades? It's not about pestering patrons or resorting to bribery (please, no "free dessert for a 5-star review" tactics). Instead, it's about creating an experience so memorable that diners can't wait to shout it from the virtual rooftops.
To help you master the art of review cultivation, we've compiled a smorgasbord of authentic, positive reviews from real-life restaurant-goers. These good restaurant reviews examples serve as both inspiration and aspiration - beacons of excellence that can guide your establishment towards a brighter, more appetizing future.
By studying these culinary commendations, you'll gain insights into what makes diners rave, rant, and return. Armed with this knowledge, you can fine-tune your approach to customer service, ambiance, and of course, your menu offerings. Remember, each glowing review is a testament to a job well done and a powerful tool for attracting new patrons to your culinary haven.
So, are you ready to turn your satisfied customers into your most ardent online advocates? Let's dive into these mouthwatering examples and discover how to make your restaurant the talk of the town - one stellar review at a time.
Why are Positive Restaurant Reviews Examples Important?
In today's foodie-focused world, a restaurant's online reputation is its secret ingredient.
Positive reviews aren't just digital pats on the back - they're the breadcrumbs leading hungry patrons to your door. Let's dive into why these glowing testimonials are the lifeblood of any thriving eatery.
The Proof is in the Pudding (and the Posts)
Imagine you're craving a new culinary adventure. Where do you turn? If you're like 81% of consumers, you'll whip out your smartphone and start scrolling through reviews. These digital endorsements serve as a virtual taste test, giving potential diners a flavor of what to expect before they even step through your doors.
But here's the kicker - it's not just about racking up five-star ratings. A truly impactful review is a three-course meal of authenticity, detail, and helpfulness. It's the difference between "Food was good" and "The hand-rolled gnocchi transported me straight to my nonna's kitchen in Tuscany!"
Beyond the Stars: Why Quality Reviews Matter
1. Trust: The Secret Sauce of Success
In a sea of dining options, positive reviews are your lighthouse, guiding uncertain diners to safe culinary shores. They're not just recommendations; they're trust signals, showing that your restaurant delivers on its promises.
2. Decision Influencers: From Maybe to "Make a Reservation!"
A whopping 81% of diners check online reviews before choosing where to eat. It's like having an army of satisfied customers whispering, "Try the risotto!" to every potential patron.
3. SEO Boost: Climbing the Google Ladder
Search engines eat up good reviews like a foodie at a buffet. A steady stream of positive feedback can catapult your restaurant to the top of local search results, making you the hottest spot in town (literally and figuratively).
4. Customer Engagement: Stirring the Pot
Responding to reviews - both good and bad - shows you're listening. It's like inviting your customers into the kitchen for a chat, fostering a sense of community and loyalty.
5. Feedback Feast: Learning from the Best
Positive reviews are more than just ego boosters. They're a goldmine of insights, helping you identify your strengths and unique selling points. It's like having a focus group that pays you!
6. Ka-ching! The Sound of Success
Let's talk turkey - good reviews mean good business. They don't just attract more diners; they often lead to higher spending. It's simple math: more stars = more dollars.
7. Reputation: Your Restaurant's Secret Recipe
In the culinary world, reputation is everything. Positive reviews are the building blocks of a strong brand identity, setting you apart in a crowded marketplace.
Crafting the Perfect Review Strategy
So, how do you turn happy diners into vocal advocates? It's not about begging for reviews or offering freebies (please, no "5 stars for a free appetizer" schemes). Instead, focus on creating experiences so memorable that guests can't wait to share them online.
Remember, each positive review is a love letter to your restaurant. It's proof that you're not just serving food; you're creating memories, one plate at a time. By understanding the power of these digital testimonials, you can transform your restaurant from a local secret to the talk of the town.
Now, who's hungry for success?
What makes a positive review for Food Outlets?
In the culinary world, a five-star review is like a Michelin star - it's the gold standard. But in today's digital dining landscape, not all five-star reviews are created equal. Let's slice and dice what makes a truly stellar review, and how you can inspire your diners to craft these digital masterpieces.
1. Beyond the Stars: The Full-Course Review
A simple "Great food!" with five stars is nice, but it's the amuse-bouche of reviews. Encourage your guests to serve up a full-course narrative. How? By creating moments worth writing about. Train your staff to engage customers, share the stories behind your dishes, or offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the kitchen. Give them something to rave about beyond just the food.
2. The Experience Entrée
A mouth-watering review doesn't just describe the food - it paints a picture of the entire dining experience. Was it the warm greeting from the maître d' that set the tone? Did the sommelier's wine pairing elevate the meal to new heights? These details are the secret ingredients that turn a good review into a great one.
Pro Tip: Create 'Instagrammable' moments throughout your restaurant. A unique plating style, a tableside preparation, or even a quirky bathroom sign can become talking points in reviews.
3. Visual Feast: The Power of Photos and Videos
In the age of "pics or it didn't happen," visual content is king. Encourage photo-taking by creating photo-worthy presentations or offering a small incentive for customers who share images in their reviews.
Idea: Host a monthly "Best Food Photo" contest on social media, featuring the winning shot in your restaurant and giving the photographer a free appetizer on their next visit.
4. Name-Dropping: The Personal Touch
When a review mentions staff by name, it's like adding seasoning to a dish - it enhances everything. Encourage this by having staff introduce themselves and wear name tags. Create memorable interactions that customers will want to highlight.
Strategy: Implement an "Employee of the Month" program based on customer review mentions. This incentivizes staff to provide exceptional, memorable service.
5. The Regular's Corner: Long-Term Loyalty
Reviews from regulars are like a fine wine - they improve with age. These loyal customers can speak to consistency and evolution, two crucial factors for prospective diners. Nurture these relationships by recognizing and rewarding loyalty.
Idea: Create a "VIP Taster" program where regular customers get to sample new menu items before they're released, encouraging them to share their experiences in reviews.
6. Location, Location, Location
If your restaurant boasts a prime spot or a unique setting, make sure it's part of the story. Create talking points about your location - perhaps it's housed in a historic building or offers a spectacular view.
Tip: Partner with local attractions or events to create package deals, giving reviewers more to talk about beyond just your restaurant.
Crafting the Perfect Review Template
While you can't write reviews for your customers, you can subtly guide them. Consider placing a QR code on your receipt or table that leads to a review page with prompts like:
- What dish did you enjoy most and why?
- Did any of our staff make your experience special?
- How would you describe the atmosphere to a friend?
- What's your favorite memory from your visit?
Remember, the goal isn't just to accumulate five-star ratings. It's to create a tapestry of authentic, detailed reviews that tell your restaurant's story from the diner's perspective. By encouraging and guiding your customers to leave these comprehensive reviews, you're not just boosting your online rating - you're crafting a digital narrative that will entice new diners and keep regulars coming back for more.
So, are you ready to turn your diners into your most eloquent brand ambassadors? Bon appétit to your digital success!

Food Critic Review Example from The Daily Grind Restaurant
Ask to sit in Elijah's section - he'll give you great service. Unfortunately we were sat in a different section, and this was the worst experience for us yet. Our server, Gibbon, was slow from the get go. The host, Matt, brought our drinks and then it took about 15-20 minutes for Gibbon to take our order. We asked for two drip coffees and ended up going to the counter to ask abo it them. When he dropped them off he said it took a while because the internet was down.
We had to scratch our heads because it doesn't require internet to pour drip coffee. It took about 30 mins for an order of French toast and Huevos ranchos to arrive at the table but we were missing our sausage for my Huevos and my son's side of fruit. It came out to us eventually and the sausage seemed old and dry.
It took us another ten to 15 mins to get our check. There was no manager present or at least it didn't look like it and that was very upsetting. We even noticed a few other guests sit down and then leave without getting service because no one acknowledged them. If you make it there, ask to sit in Elijah's section.
He was the only server we saw hustling through the breakfast rush. We watched him take care of his guests and get people fed and out the door to life their lives.
I had to ask him for his name so we could come back and ask for him. The Daily Grind used to be a great place for solid food and friendly service but it's gone downhill. Hopefully management will step up and get it back on track.

The Do's and Don'ts of Review Replies For Restaurants
Best practices for restaurant customer replies.
1. Personalizing responses:
This is crucial for building a connection with the reviewer. It shows you've taken the time to read and understand their specific experience. For example, "Thank you, Sarah, for your detailed feedback about your Saturday night dinner. We're glad you enjoyed the truffle pasta but sorry to hear about the wait time for your appetizers."
2. Expressing gratitude:
Appreciation goes a long way, even (or especially) with negative reviews. It can disarm angry customers and show other potential diners your commitment to feedback. For instance, "We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us, John. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve."
3. Addressing specific concerns:
This demonstrates accountability and a willingness to improve. For example, "We're sorry to hear the music volume affected your dining experience, Lisa. We're reviewing our ambient sound levels to ensure a more pleasant atmosphere for all our guests."
4. Inviting further interaction:
This can turn a negative experience into a positive one and shows you're willing to go the extra mile. For instance, "We'd love the opportunity to make this right, Mike. Please contact our manager, Sarah, at [email protected] to discuss your experience further."
5. Using AI tools wisely:
AI can certainly help streamline the response process, especially for high-volume reviews. However, as you pointed out, it's crucial to personalize these responses. A good approach might be to use AI for initial drafts, then have a team member review and customize each response to maintain brand voice and add that human touch.
Comprehensive approach to responding to restaurant reviews
"Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Emily. We're thrilled you enjoyed our new farm-to-table menu, especially the heirloom tomato salad. However, we're concerned to hear about the delay in your main course arriving.
We take all feedback seriously and use it to continually improve our service. I've personally discussed your experience with our kitchen staff to ensure we maintain our usual prompt service standards. We're implementing a new system to better track order times and prevent such delays in the future.
We'd love the opportunity to welcome you back and provide the exceptional dining experience we strive for. Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected], and I'd be happy to arrange a special visit for you.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Your input helps us serve you and all our guests better.
Best regards,
General Manager"
This response incorporates all five principles:
1. Personalization: Using the reviewer's name (Emily) and mentioning specific aspects of their experience (the farm-to-table menu and heirloom tomato salad).
2. Gratitude: Thanking the reviewer at the beginning and end of the response.
3. Addressing concerns: Acknowledging the delay in the main course and explaining steps being taken to prevent future occurrences.
4. Inviting further interaction: Providing a direct email and inviting the reviewer to arrange another visit.
5. Human touch: While this response could be initially drafted using AI, it's been personalized with specific details and a warm, professional tone that reflects the restaurant's brand.
This approach demonstrates attentiveness, accountability, and a genuine desire to improve and maintain customer satisfaction. It addresses both positive and negative aspects of the review, showing appreciation for the compliments while taking ownership of the issues.
Don'ts
1. Embrace All Feedback, Especially the Negative
Negative reviews, while potentially disheartening, are goldmines of valuable information. They offer insights into areas of your restaurant that may need improvement, which you might have overlooked. By responding thoughtfully to critical feedback, you demonstrate to both the reviewer and potential customers that you're committed to growth and excellence.
Consider implementing a feedback loop:
- Regularly review and categorize negative feedback
- Identify recurring issues
- Develop action plans to address these concerns
- Follow up with staff training or operational changes
- Monitor improvements over time
This approach not only helps improve your restaurant but also shows customers that their voices are heard and valued.
2. Craft Unique, Personalized Responses
While efficiency is important, authenticity in your responses is crucial. Each review is an opportunity to showcase your restaurant's personality and dedication to customer satisfaction.
To create more personalized responses:
- Reference specific details mentioned in the review
- Acknowledge the reviewer's emotions (e.g., disappointment, frustration)
- Share how their feedback will be used to improve
- If appropriate, invite them back with a personalized offer
For example: "Thank you for your candid review, Sarah. We're sorry our risotto didn't meet your expectations last Friday. Our chef is passionate about this dish and would love the opportunity to prepare it to your liking on your next visit. Please ask for Mario when you return, and he'll ensure you have an exceptional experience."
3. Maintain Composure and Focus on Solutions
When faced with a particularly harsh or unfair review, it's natural to feel defensive. However, responding emotionally can escalate the situation and damage your reputation. Instead, view these challenging reviews as opportunities to showcase your professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Strategies for handling difficult reviews:
- Take a step back before responding - draft a response and review it after a short break
- Empathize with the reviewer's perspective, even if you disagree
- Acknowledge their feelings without admitting fault if the criticism is unfair
- Offer a specific solution or invite them to discuss the issue privately
- Use positive language and focus on what you can do, rather than what went wrong
4. Prioritize Timely Responses
In today's fast-paced digital world, prompt responses to reviews are more critical than ever. Quick replies show that you're attentive and value customer feedback. Moreover, they can prevent negative situations from escalating and demonstrate to potential customers that you're actively engaged in ensuring positive experiences.
To improve response times:
- Set up alerts for new reviews across all platforms
- Designate a team member to monitor and respond to reviews daily
- Create templates for common scenarios to speed up response time, but always personalize them
- Aim to respond within 24-48 hours, if not sooner
Remember, a swift response can often turn a negative experience into a positive one, potentially salvaging a customer relationship and improving your overall reputation.
5. Set Realistic Expectations in Your Responses
While it's important to address concerns and offer solutions, making promises you can't keep will only lead to further disappointment and damage to your reputation. Instead, focus on setting achievable goals and clearly communicating what steps you'll take to improve the situation.
Guidelines for making realistic commitments:
- Be specific about what actions you'll take (e.g., "I'll personally review this with our chef")
- Provide a realistic timeframe for implementing changes or following up
- If offering a gesture of goodwill, make sure it's something you can consistently provide
- Be transparent about limitations if you can't fully meet a request
For example: "We appreciate your feedback on our wine selection, Tom. While we can't expand our cellar immediately, I'll work with our sommelier to review our current offerings and consider adding some varieties similar to your preferences in our next quarterly update. In the meantime, we'd love to offer you a complimentary tasting of our reserve selection on your next visit to help find a wine you'll truly enjoy."
By following these expanded guidelines, you can create a robust review response strategy that not only addresses immediate concerns but also builds long-term customer relationships and enhances your restaurant's reputation.
How to Collect Reviews from Restaurant Customers
Fostering a Review-Centric Business Environment
- Train staff to naturally weave review requests into conversations. For instance, a server might say, "We're always looking to improve. If you have a moment after your meal, we'd love to hear your thoughts on your experience today."
- Set up visible reminders, such as tasteful table cards or digital displays, that invite customers to share their experiences.
- Hold regular team meetings where you dissect both positive and negative reviews. Use this as a learning opportunity, celebrating successes and brainstorming solutions for areas of improvement.
- Create a 'Review of the Week' program, where standout feedback (both positive and constructive) is shared company-wide, discussed, and acted upon.
Optimizing the Review Collection Process
- Implement QR codes on receipts, menus, or signage that directly link to your preferred review platform.
- Explore AI-powered chatbots that can engage customers post-purchase, gauging their experience and guiding satisfied customers to leave reviews.
- Consider developing a branded mobile app that includes an easy-to-use review feature, integrating the feedback process into your overall digital ecosystem.
- Create a dedicated landing page on your website that aggregates links to all your review platforms, allowing customers to choose their preferred site.
- Provide clear, concise instructions at each step. For example, "Click here to rate your experience in just 30 seconds!"
- Offer multiple options for leaving feedback - star ratings, text reviews, even voice recordings for those who prefer speaking to typing.
Tailoring the Review Request Experience
- For restaurants, consider sending a follow-up email the next day, when the dining experience is still fresh but has had time to settle.
- In retail, timing might be different - perhaps a week after purchase, allowing the customer to use the product sufficiently.
- Use customer data to personalize your requests. "How did you enjoy your [specific dish ordered]?" feels more engaging than a generic "How was your meal?"
- Analyze your customer base to understand their preferred communication channels. Are they more responsive to emails, SMS, or social media?
- Experiment with different formats - perhaps video testimonials for your younger audience or traditional comment cards for those who prefer analog methods.
- Consider the timing of your outreach on different platforms. An email might be best sent during work hours, while a social media prompt might perform better in the evening.
Ethically Encouraging Review Participation
- Implement a charity donation program where your business contributes to a cause for every review received, regardless of its content.
- Create a loyalty program where customers earn points for engagement, including leaving reviews. These points can be redeemed for experiences rather than discounts, sidestepping concerns about buying positive feedback.
- Host periodic 'Customer Appreciation' events, where all reviewers (positive or negative) are invited to exclusive previews of new products or services.
- Clearly state your review policy on your website and in-store, emphasizing your commitment to honest feedback.
- When requesting reviews, explicitly mention that you value all feedback, positive or negative, as it helps you improve.
- Follow up with reviewers, especially those who provided constructive criticism. Share how their feedback led to specific changes in your business. This not only shows that you listen but also encourages future engagement.
By implementing these expanded strategies, you create a comprehensive ecosystem that not only generates more reviews but also fosters a culture of open communication and continuous improvement. This approach turns the review process into a valuable tool for business growth and customer relationship building.
How Important is a Good Review for a Restaurant?
Good reviews are essential for a restaurant's success. They serve as powerful word-of-mouth marketing tools, influencing potential customers' decisions. Here's why:
- Trust and Credibility: Positive reviews build trust and credibility, making customers more likely to choose your restaurant over competitors.
- Increased Visibility: Online reviews can improve your restaurant's search engine ranking, making it easier for potential customers to find you.
- Higher Revenue: Studies have shown that restaurants with positive reviews tend to have higher revenue and customer loyalty.
- Feedback and Improvement: Customer reviews provide valuable feedback that can help you identify areas for improvement and enhance your overall customer experience.
- Reputation Management: Addressing negative reviews promptly and professionally can help protect your restaurant's reputation and prevent damage.
In today's digital age, online reviews play a crucial role in the success of a restaurant. By actively seeking and managing reviews, you can build a positive reputation, attract more customers, and drive your business forward.
5 Most Popular Online Platforms for Restaurant Reviews
Thank you for providing this information about popular online review platforms. I'll expand on each of these platforms with a fresh perspective, focusing on unique strategies and considerations for restaurants:
1. Google: The Search Engine Giant's Review Ecosystem
Google's dominance in the review space isn't just about volume; it's about integration. Consider these unique approaches:
- Local SEO Optimization: Beyond basic Google My Business setup, focus on local SEO. Use location-specific keywords in your business description, post updates about local events or seasonal menus, and encourage customers to mention specific dishes or experiences in their reviews.
- Google Q&A Feature: Actively monitor and respond to questions in the Q&A section. This not only provides valuable information to potential customers but also improves your visibility in search results.
- Google Posts: Utilize this feature to share weekly specials, behind-the-scenes content, or chef spotlights. This keeps your Google presence dynamic and engaging.
- Photo Optimization: Encourage customers to upload photos with their reviews. Google's image recognition AI can identify food items, enhancing your visibility for specific dish searches.
2. Facebook: The Social Network Review Hub
Facebook's review system is uniquely positioned within a social context. Leverage this by:
- Story-Driven Reviews: Encourage customers to share their dining stories, not just ratings. These narrative reviews can be more impactful and shareable within the Facebook ecosystem.
- Live Video Reviews: Invite influential local Facebook users to do live video reviews during their visit. This creates an immersive, real-time review experience.
- Review-Based Contests: Run contests where the most creative or comprehensive review (ensuring it doesn't violate review policies) wins a prize, encouraging detailed, quality reviews.
- Facebook Groups: Create or participate in local foodie Facebook groups. Engaging here can lead to more organic, community-driven reviews.
3. TripAdvisor: The Traveler's Culinary Compass
TripAdvisor's global reach offers unique opportunities:
- Cultural Context: If you serve cuisine from a specific region, provide cultural context in your TripAdvisor profile. Educate travelers about the authenticity of your dishes.
- Seasonal Traveler Targeting: Align your TripAdvisor strategy with local events or seasons that attract travelers. Encourage reviews during these peak times.
- Multi-lingual Review Responses: If you receive reviews in multiple languages, respond in kind. This shows your international appeal and attention to diverse clientele.
- Local Experience Packages: Partner with nearby attractions or hotels to offer package deals, increasing your visibility to travelers planning comprehensive trips.
4. Yelp: The Detailed Critic's Choice
Yelp's detailed review structure allows for in-depth engagement:
- Review Response Strategy: Develop a tiered response strategy. For detailed reviews, provide equally detailed responses, showing you value comprehensive feedback.
- Yelp Events: Host Yelp Elite events at your restaurant. These can generate high-quality, influential reviews from active Yelp users.
- Menu Item Spotlight: Use Yelp's menu feature to its fullest. Regularly update and highlight specific dishes, encouraging reviewers to try and comment on these items.
- Behind-the-Scenes Content: Share kitchen tours, ingredient sourcing stories, or chef interviews on your Yelp page to give reviewers more context for their dining experience.
5. Zomato: The Foodie's Detailed Directory
Zomato's focus on detailed restaurant information can be leveraged:
- Menu Engineering for Reviews: Analyze which menu items get the most positive reviews on Zomato and adjust your menu layout to highlight these dishes.
- Zomato Collections: Work to get your restaurant featured in Zomato's curated collections. This can drive traffic from users looking for specific dining experiences.
- Food Blogger Collaborations: Since Zomato aggregates blogger reviews, build relationships with local food bloggers for more in-depth, expert reviews on the platform.
- Visual Menu Optimization: Invest in high-quality, appetizing photos for your Zomato menu listings. Visual appeal can significantly influence diner decisions on this platform.
By tailoring your approach to each platform's unique features and user base, you can create a more effective and comprehensive online review strategy for your restaurant. Remember, the key is not just to accumulate reviews, but to engage with them in a way that enhances your restaurant's online presence and attracts more diners.

🍽️ Restaurant Essay. Writing Tips
Here are some valuable tips on restaurant essay writing. Use these hacks to save your time and nerves and make a perfect writing piece.
Start a Restaurant Essay with Research
Research essays of other scholars and professional critics’ reviews. Based on the discovered information, decide what kind of essay suits you the best. Also, research the restaurant that you will describe in the paper.
Here are the things you need to consider:
- Vocabulary. Notice the specific language that appears in this type of writing. Make a small glossary and search for the meaning of frequently used words.
- Structure. Probably, you need to write a descriptive paper. Research its structure and observe how others implement it in long and short essays.
- Critical thinking. Everything you have found needs evaluation. Not all of the information is relevant. And more importantly, not all of the sources are worth your attention.
- Your notes. Make sure you include all the ideas you’ve found for your restaurants essay.
Be Objective in Any Kind of Essay about Restaurant
Sure, the paper should reflect your opinion. But don’t make it a Google review. You need to support your thoughts with solid argumentation and evidence.
Follow these tips to be more objective:
- Use exact numbers. For example, instead of “many,” write the number or percentage.
- Write in the third person. Unless you have other instructions, avoid using the word “I” and such statements as “I believe,” “I think,” or “in my opinion.” But if your topic is “My favorite restaurant,” or you do a review based on your experience, it is okay to make it first-person.
- Don’t use words that can exaggerate your writing. Such terms as “very,” “really,” “never” are better to avoid.
- Support your statements with facts. If you express a thought, prove it with credible sources.
Outline Your Restaurant Essay
You need an outline to create a roadmap to your restaurant essay. It is also useful when it comes to planning your time and the content of the paper.
- Introduction. Explain the focus of the paper and provide background. Introduce the questions that you will answer in the following paragraphs. Don’t forget to make the last sentence your thesis statement. It will be a summary of what you will describe in the body of your essay.
- Body . The content of body paragraphs depends on the type of paper. For example, in an argumentative essay, each passage presents a separate argument. Let’s suppose you write an essay about your favorite restaurant. Describe these aspects separately: cuisine, interior, and service. Add details and analyze them.
- Conclusion. Summarize the main points of your essay and synthesize the information. Restate your thesis and don’t introduce any new information.

Restaurant Review Essay: Modernity in the Heart of Brooklyn
Modernity is a contemporary experimental restaurant located in the heart of Brooklyn. A blue neon sign which blinks from time to time attracts your attention immediately. This restaurant is a good place for people who look for the unusual interior, interesting food, and fast service. The restaurant looks like a futuristic mix of bright colors, unusual furniture, and futurism. There are two floors, a bar on the first floor and tables of different sizes and shapes on the second floor. The walls are decorated with abstract paintings, pictures of aliens and UFOs, and small neon signs like the one above the entrance. The staff wears uniforms that remind space suits. Light techno music and static sounds are playing. The restaurant is consistent with its name. The menu might seem confusing when you first open it. Such dishes as “Martian’s brain” or “Unicorn’s milk” turn out to be pumpkin soup served with colorful bread and a milkshake. I ordered a dish called “Jupiter on vacation” and a “Weightlessness” drink. They brought me a chicken bowl with blue seasoning that reminded Jupiter and a dark cherry drink with zero calories. Modernity is a place where you can try amazing food, but it is pretty simple in taste. As soon as I arrived and chose a table, a smiling waiter gave me the menu. I just had to press the “Emergency evacuation” button to see him again and place my order. They brought it in five minutes, which is quite fast for a restaurant full of visitors. The waiters and waitresses seem busy and going from one part of the restaurant to another. I recommend visiting Modernity at least once to see the way it looks and enjoy the service. It is a place where every detail is conceptual and exciting. If you are looking for a restaurant where you can take some photos and enjoy a creative atmosphere, Modernity is a good choice.
A cafe called Cliff is not far from where I live. You might not even notice it in the surrounding trees; however, this is what makes Cliff worth visiting. I love this place because of its qualitative coffee and meals, beautiful location, and service. They serve specialty coffee, which made me their regular customer. Its taste is a perfect mix of bitterness, chocolate flavor, and a bit of sour aftertaste. I am a big coffee lover, so this café impressed me. Cliff also offers twenty different deserts that are an excellent match to a cup of coffee. Some of them are vegan options; that is why anyone can choose a treat for themselves. You can also order a sandwich or a salad here, and the food is always fresh. Their approach to nature deserves respect. The café’s outside area looks like a small park with tiny chairs, tables, and benches. If you ask for a blanket or bring your own, you can enjoy your meal sitting on the lawn in a comfortable position. Cliff is a ten-minute walk from my apartment, so I often go there to study surrounded by these beautiful trees. The interior combines brown and grey colors; most of the objects are made of concrete and wood. The waiters and baristas are cheerful and always ready for a small chat. They help me with my choice and complete the orders fast. Cliff also has quite a fast Internet connection. That is the reason why I regularly see at least ten freelancers working there constantly. The music that plays there is not too loud, but you can still hear it from any spot. Cliff looks clean and neat, that is why I enjoy every minute I spend there. There are many good coffee shops in the area, and this one is worth your attention. Try this place if you enjoy nature, polite service, and a peaceful atmosphere. Choose your favorite coffee drink and a small dessert to dine in the garden.
I don’t visit restaurants so often because my father is a chef. He has been in the culinary sphere for more than 20 years, working in an Italian restaurant. I prefer eating at home to eat as delicious food as in restaurants, hone my culinary skills, and spend more time with my family. Every meal my father cooks at home is a product of his professional approach and good taste. He even creates his dishes and invites us to try them. He changes recipes, experiments with flavors and seasonings, and describes everything he did while we were testing the dish. I feel like a famous food critic each time I try to guess the ingredients and the way of cooking. The next thing I love about eating at home is cooking. I enjoy spending time in the kitchen, even though I know I will not do it professionally one day. My dream is to become a software engineer, but good cooking skills are always a benefit. Having such a teacher as my father, I am sure my culinary skills become better each time. We buy groceries, cook, eat, and clean up together. It is like a small ritual that became a tradition in our family. That is far more than just visiting a restaurant to me. We don’t wear fancy clothes, stand in a queue or make reservations, and spend as much time as we want together. We find it more convenient since we have fun and don’t have to go anywhere. Eating at home can be a better experience than eating in a restaurant if you enjoy cooking. There are so many things to explore. You can try different cuisines, experiment with recipes, and teach each other. If you haven’t tried such time spending, I highly recommend it!

How to write a restaurant review.
The Association of Food Journalists: How to Write a Review
The goals of a critic should be to be fair, honest, to understand and illuminate the cuisine about which he or she is writing. A critic should look beyond specific dishes and experiences and attempt to capture the whole of a restaurant and its intentions.
4 stars : Extraordinary. The standard by which you judge other restaurants. 3 stars : Excellent. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, good service, all around wonderful experience. 2 stars : Good. A solid example of a particular kind of restaurant (e.g., sushi, Italian, and so on). 1 star : Okay. The restaurant did one thing well. Perhaps one dish was delicious, or the restaurant had a fabulous waitstaff, or you enjoyed the atmosphere. Still, you’re not going to hurry back to a 1 star restaurant, but you would go again. 0 stars : Poor. Nothing about the restaurant made you want to return.
The Actual Writing
1. hook the reader with the first sentence, 2. make it personal.
“In How To Eat I thought aloud about food, shared my enthusiasms and prejudices and tried to explain how and why I cook any one dish at any time. It is an intensely personal book: any authentic collection of recipes is in part autobiography; and in my case, many of these recipes were a kind of memorial to the food cooked by my mother, Vanessa, and my sister, Thomasina.”
3. Be Objective
