After three stages of essay competition with 932 entries across all the states of the federation, Teniola has emerged as the winner in the Senior School (SS1/Year 10) category of the prestigious Petroleum & Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of 

Nigeria (PENGASSAN) National Essay Competition, securing a cash prize of N1,000,000 (One Million Naira).

The PENGASSAN National Essay Competition represents a motivating and socially responsible endeavor by PENGASSAN, aimed at fostering the growth of creative writing skills among secondary school students.

This victory is the result of her tenacity and hard work coupled with the support of her teachers and parents, as well as the enabling environment Corona Schools provides. Teni successfully navigated through three stages of rigorous essay writing and a Zoom session with esteemed judges, ultimately emerging as the deserving winner.

--> PENGASSAN National Essay Competition for JSS1 and SS1 Nigerian Students. 

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), having followed the saying that "it is never too early to commence a career as a writer", organised a National Essay Writing Competition.

According to Richard Bach, a professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit. To this end, the foremost union in the most important sector of the Nigerian economy gave JSS1 and SS1 students in Secondary Schools across Nigeria the platform to hone their writing skills through essays. 

The Essay focus was on ‘ Clean Energy and the Environment’ and the following prizes were presented to the winners at the just concluded PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit in Abuja.  SS1 category  -    • winner: cash prize of one million naira (N1million);     • 2nd Prize N500, 000 and    • 3rd prize N300,000.

JSS 1 category;     • winner cash prize of N500,000;     • 2nd Prize of N300,000 and    • 3rd Prize is N200,000.

A consolation cash prize of N100,000. 00 each for 4th to 6th positions were given for each category.

Winners of 2023 National Essay Competition to get N10.5m educational grants

UBA Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has announced the commencement of the 2023 edition of its annual National Essay Competition (NEC) in Nigeria, with a call for entries.

The first prize winner will receive an educational grant of N5 million to study at any African university of their choice, whilst the second and third prizes now stand at N3 million and N2.5 million educational grants for any African University.

Also, winners of the 12 best essays will go home with brand new Laptops and other educational tools to help them with their studies and other tertiary research work.

The Foundation noted that the essay topic for this year is “Will Artificial Intelligence(AI)take over Human Intelligence? what should students do to ensure AI doesn’t override but enhance their ability to learn through research?”.

It said students are expected to properly research, write, scan and upload their handwritten essays to its digital portal on or before October 20.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, UBA Foundation, Mrs. Bola Atta, said that with the digital submission portal, more students in senior secondary schools across the country now have the opportunity to scan and send in their entries and compete to win any of the educational grants for study at any university of their choice on the African continent.
