Careers support

The LJMU Student Futures team is split between different career zones, located on each campus. The team has careers advisers as well as employability advisers, who specialise in helping with subjects around applying for jobs, including writing personal statements and CVs, interview techniques, how to secure work placements, options for further postgraduate study, and more.

Each school also publishes a career planning guide every year, which students can pick up and use as an extra resource for finding future work.

Scholarships/Bursaries

Every year, LJMU awards a range of international scholarships to students as they commence their studies. Awards typically take the form of partial tuition fee scholarships and are provided to exceptional international students applying to undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses.

Sports Scholarship Scheme

Due to the global renown of its programmes in sport and exercise science, LJMU offers a unique Sport Scholarship Scheme , which recognises and rewards students’ outstanding sporting ability with cash bursaries, access to sports expertise, and extra study support.

Tuition fees vary between courses, fields of study, and the level and mode of study. Students are advised to carefully check the tuition fees for their chosen course prior to application.

International students should be aware that they will be subjected to a higher rate of fees than domestic (UK) students.

Domestic students may be able to access a postgraduate loan from the UK government to help finance their studies.

Financial support and advice is made available for students throughout their studies.

Send a message directly to the uni to learn more about their scholarships and bursaries.

Distance learning

LJMU offers the following taught postgraduate programmes:

  • PGCE/PGDE

Many taught programmes at LJMU can be studied either full or part-time, enabling students to complete their course over a short period of time or extend their learning duration to allow for work and/or family commitments. Students who choose to study part-time will spread the cost of their tuition over their chosen years of study.

Teaching quality for LJMU’s postgraduate courses is excellent: lecturers are leaders in their field, working with global experts to develop a learning plan that prepares students to become future leaders. While there is still lecture and contact time, postgraduate courses also provide plenty of opportunities for more independent study, giving students the chance to shape their own education.

Research is central to the student experience at LJMU and informs the curriculum at all levels.

The university is a leading research institution, with 94% of its research rated as international quality or better ( Research Excellence Framework , 2021).

Postgraduate students can enrol in a research-based PhD qualification in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Art and Design
  • Sport and Exercise Science

Students are encouraged to review visit the full list of research areas and to explore current research opportunities, including PhD scholarships.

Some LJMU programmes can be studied remotely via distance learning. Not all courses are available in this way, but students can enquire through the LJMU website to find out more. Remote learning takes the form of recorded lectures and videos, email and video-conference tutor sessions, and the chance to access the vast digital study resources that the university has to offer.

Students who prefer distance learning can study part-time too, making it easier to fit their chosen qualification around their home life and other commitments which may limit them from attending the university in person.
