miftahul 1 / 2   Apr 20, 2021   #3 I suggest you think a bit more practical. First, try to identify the problems or shortcomings you would like to solve, perhaps something that has been bothering you or your surrounding for sometimes. Then, try to break it down into several area, to understand the sources of the problems: structural, personal, or institutional. Your solutions or what are you going to do should be based on your perception of the problems. Afterward, all you need to do is literature review and find out what has been done to solve that particular problem so that you can innovate.

SCIENCEYES!

Kaist-my authentic essay.

Assalamualaikum, Peace be upon you

Olla gengs,

Here I want to share about my experience about applying to Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology. One of requirement for the online application form is essay. This part contains 4 sections. The first section, You have to describe yourself in 3 adjective words that seems suitable with you. I describe myself as Creative, Curious, and Generous. Then, these are the other 3 parts:

First, Your reason. Tips: Show genuine passion in Science and Research.

I am really excited to be one of the undergraduate students at KAIST. For me, becoming a student there can help me to explore my potential in science and improve my experiment skills. What makes me really determined to be a student there, is the Lab and the atmosphere of discovering new things. I noticed that KAIST has one of the great material science labs in the world.  I often stay late in the lab to do some little experiment, proof my hypothesis, or do something just for fun, look for the material interaction.

I see myself as a great experimenter like Sir Michael Faraday and I found that Material Science and Engineering is a perfect major for me. Working on a multiple-dimension project, studying interdisciplinary science, researching fundamental science are things that I love most. Joining this course at KAIST means that I can pursue and continue my research there. Finding a breakthrough in energy and material will be my focus and passion. Joining the course also enlarges my vision for the future of technology because we can think and resolve real problems in the society from many points of view.

I see KAIST as a top global university which has an amazing international student community. I am a very active boy. I always seek a new opportunity and journey. I love making new friends with other people. Studying at KAIST means that I can make a lot of new friends, learn new cultures included Korean culture,  and create some new networks. The most unbelievable moment about making friend and connection I’ve ever had is when I suddenly greeted and had a conversation with the secretary general of The Ministry of Marine and Fishery, even though I never knew and met him before. I walked along with other stakeholders as a boy and discussed my new invention.

My ultimate goal is to bring happiness, knowledge, and wealth to small islands in remote and rural areas with my creative and innovative invention based on the Newton famous quote that “Nature is pleased with simplicity”

Second, Your strength and weaknesses. Tips: Be true to yourself.

I am an open-minded person as I collaborate with many investors, colleagues, mentor, and expert while studying to start up a new innovative tech company. I have a growth mindset and vision for the future of the environment, energy, material, and society. Maybe I am not the smartest boy or an academic superstar, which applying to KAIST, but I strongly believe that I own the creativity beyond the society and the ability as a great experimenter like my role model, Sir Michael Faraday. And someday we will see my breakthrough to solve one of the worlds biggest problems and drive our society together along with my team. I am really sure that I will be one of the most valuable student of KAIST with my strong passion and attitude. My willingness, enthusiasm, and effort to learn something new will make me perfectly fit in the KAIST community and share a great positive energy and spirit of invention.

I have the resilience to achieve something more and pursuing my passion for science. I’m willing to take risks and sacrifice my own time, money, and energy for many works and project even that I wouldn’t know the result. It is kind of amazing to see my resilience when I’ve done 12 finished-project for my high school and only 5 of them that won national competitions.

But I am also an introvert that sometimes needs to recharge myself and should have a quiet moment alone. People also told me that I got a bad taste and a little bit stubborn. I think I have the bounce ability helping me to deal with failure and disappointment, and bounce back after a failure. I figured out that writing my daily journal, keep me motivated and conscious about my vision, what I really want to do. Failure made me realize my own mistake and discover what is really needed to upgrade my mind. I also come from a poor family, but my beloved mom always supports me to achieve more. My condition pushes me to keep survive and stand on my own feet.

Third, Your Problem. Tips: Up to you (hehehehe)

My journey was full of color. Despite my family economic condition and feel a broken home once, but I always come up better and learn something new. From my experience facing many conflicts, I become very tolerant and wise for every problem that I encounter. I failed on my national science Olympiad on astronomy and astrophysics, but it didn’t discourage my dream to be one of the most influential inventors of energy, material, and sea transportation. Many people underestimate my ability, but I always see my own light and keep moving forward. My beloved mother always supports me in every step of my journey. I am great at bouncing back from a failure and keep motivated to work on my dream.

There was one day when I felt the whole world begin to fall. I lost my father and I had to manage my own money to help my brother go to school, help my mother to fulfill daily needs. I was so desperate at that time, I just lost all my saving for college. But God showed his mercy, things went better slowly but surely. I learned a lot about managing finances, balancing my school, my family, and my activity.

I also had a problem with my own research mentor. Somehow we got different principle on how the things should be going and he just threw me away. I started to walk on my own feet, I believed in myself. Then I won the open to public energy competition and defeated a physics doctor.

That’s all for now. Please wish me luck on my application. I am going to share a lot of things after I get admitted. Thank you so much for My beloved research mentor: Mr. Chairul Hudaya, Ph. D. Love you too mom!

Pram 2018. Muda Berdikari.

Second essay is a lot easier. Just list numerous things you've learned doing extracurriculars. Third and fourth essays are alike, actually.
