North Macedonia
Dear Honorable Consul,
My name is Stojan Nikola (passport number: NM22330011). I am a Macedonian citizen who lives in Skopje, Macedonia, where I work as a graphic designer and have an income of DEN 50,000. I am writing this letter because I am applying for a UK tourist visa; I plan to stay in London from May 30, 2023.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit London, so it would mean a lot to me if I would finally make that dream come true. During my time in the UK, I have planned to visit as many tourist attractions as possible, such as the London Eye, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the National Gallery. I also have many friends I have met on social media that I would love to meet.
While in London, I will stay in a hotel I have already booked, and I will also cover my personal expenses. As soon as my ten-day visa expires, I will return to Macedonia since I have a lot of work waiting for me there.
I will attach all the required documents in my visa application form and cover letter. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your time!

Getting a UK visa for PLAB is a mammoth task for many International Medical Graduates (IMGs). It is very confusing sometimes regarding what financial sponsorship documents you have to gather and how should you present your case. Let’s try to break it down!
Table of Contents
Financial sponsorship documents in your UK Visa application is one of the core things to get straight. Before commencing, let’s have a look at a few paragraphs of Appendix V: Immigration rules for visitors :
V 4.2 The applicant must satisfy the decision-maker that they are a genuine visitor. This means that the applicant: (e) must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs in relation to their visit without working or accessing public funds. This includes the cost of the return or onward journey, any costs relating to dependants, and the cost of planned activities such as private medical treatment.
And also for people who may not have sufficient funds of their OWN:
V 4.3 A visitor’s travel, maintenance, and accommodation may be provided by a third party where the decision-maker is satisfied that they: (a) have a genuine professional or personal relationship with the visitor; and (b) are not, or will not be, in breach of UK immigration laws at the time of decision or the visitor’s entry to the UK; and (c) can and will provide support to the visitor for the intended duration of their stay.
V 4.4 The third party may be asked to give an undertaking in writing to be responsible for the applicant’s maintenance and accommodation. In this case, paragraph 35 of Part 1 of these Rules applies also to Visitors. An applicant will normally be refused where, having been requested to do so, the applicant fails to provide a valid written undertaking from a third party to be responsible for their maintenance and accommodation for the period of any visit.
In plain English, a visitor, if a visitor can’t support own self, can have a financial sponsor and the sponsor will have to give an undertaking in writing that they will support the visitor financially. And on top of that, naturally, the sponsor will have to provide proof that they themselves have enough funds for maintenance of any costs that may arise for the visitor during the entire trip.
To reiterate the rule – “a third party where the decision maker is satisfied that they have a genuine professional or personal relationship with the visitor” . Yes, the relationship with the third party is important. But, nowhere in the rules, it is stated that it has to be an immediate family, as parents or sibling. So, it can be anyone who you can prove that you have a professional or personal relationship. It can be a business even, not a person if you can prove you have a professional relationship with them. But, that being said, it’s easier to prove that you have a personal relationship with your immediate family.
It’s always better if you, yourself can be your financial sponsor. But for you to become your own financial sponsor there are a few tick-boxes to fill.
The sponsor should have the ability to prove that they are financially stable . I can’t emphasize enough on financially stable. It doesn’t mean the amount of money they have in the bank account, it is not only the amount of money they earn every month. It’s the proper balance among money in the bank, money spent and money earned. The whole nine yards!
To break it down:
The burning question.
It depends on how much you’ve shown your total cost of the trip will be. Your cost of the trip again depends on how many days you are showing your visit will be.
The more days stay you state in your application, the more expenses you will have to show. The more expenses you show, the more you will have to have in your/your sponsor’s account.
In my opinion, your whole expense should not be more than 1/3rd of the liquid assets your sponsor has to show in their bank account. That being said, the question remains- how do I calculate how much money I’ll need to show?
Let me just show you my breakdown of the cost of the trip. I showed my stay of 30 days, and the cost of my trip was broken down as follows:
Airplane Ticket (round trip) | 800 GBP |
Accommodation (for 30 days) | 500 GBP |
Living Expenses (food, transportation and all) | 500 GBP |
Others (emergency need) (In my opinion, this addition gives a positive idea about how you plan your finances) | 500 GBP |
Total | 2300 GBP |
Now I want to make some more points:
You can just put your expected dates (as you’ve mentioned in your travel itinerary in your cover letter) in skiplagged to find out a reasonable price for air-tickets. You can round it up. And for accommodation, the cost is variable, and it depends on where you have shown you’re going to stay.
Just remember one golden rule, things should be similar as per the papers you’re submitting.
If you are self-sponsoring the trip.
If you state in your visa application that you ARE EMPLOYED , you MUST explain your own financial circumstances with the following papers:
I can not emphasize enough how important this is to explain your own financial circumstances if you state that you are employed.
You still can add a third party as a sponsor if you are employed. It is very acceptable as your financial circumstances may reflect that you yourself are not capable of funding this trip, even though you are employed.
If you are NOT EMPLOYED , you still can add your work experience certificates which mention your termination date, if you had worked before. If you are not earning anything now, your financial circumstances hardly matter. Be careful when putting this info in the online application. They should make sense.
Here also the uniqueness of every case makes it quite impossible to give one single guideline on financial sponsorship documents. But let’s talk generally what a sponsor should provide-
The rule to follow – always adds up what you’re stating, with official papers . Just because you mentioned and explained something in your cover letter/letter of support doesn’t mean anything, if any official paper doesn’t back it up.
Here, UK Visa Guidance: Supporting Documents , you will find my cover letter and see what other papers I attached with my visa application.
Most of the banks have their automated system of providing their customers with the bank statement. Previous 6 months statement is needed and as I have mentioned earlier, this should be the money that is readily withdraw-able i.e liquid asset. If the money is not in any conventional bank rather in any other type of financial institution, that can also be shown, as long as proper papers with accurate explanations are made. For example, savings can be in bonds/saving certificates. They are seen as readily withdraw-able cash at any moment, and thus a copy of the said bond/saving certificates along with a letter from the financial institution should serve the purpose too. And, importantly, any big transaction in the aforementioned account should be explained in the letter of support by the financial sponsor, which is discussed below.
This is a letter issued by the bank or any financial institution stating explicitly how much money the account holder has, in which accounts, and how the institution thinks he is solvent enough to sponsor you for your UK trip. This letter comes along with the bank statement if you ask the bank officials about this. Here is an example.
You can download a PDF copy of this here.
DISCLAIMER : The above template of a solvency certificate is what my financial institution agreed to follow. For different banks, they have their own template and they may not be willing to follow exactly what it is here. It’s alright . As long as they are providing a “Solvency Certificate” or a “Certificate of Investment”, that serves the purpose. Make sure the paper has the following things:
This can simply be an income certificate in the official letterhead. Or, again, a letter from the bank ascertaining monthly flow in an account from a source like pension, business, investment or anything that brings money into the account regularly. Or if it is evident in the bank statement, there’s no need of letter from the bank, but the income certificate from the source, in that case, will be required.
The income tax return will also serve the purpose of proving regular income if the monthly/yearly income is mentioned there. This is useful if the monthly income is irregular like in a business. Bottom line, any official paper which demonstrates the monthly flow of money under the name of the sponsor, will do.
Note that, the amount of regular income shown should reflect the circumstances of the sponsor’s and his dependents. For example, if someone earns £50 per month and runs a family of 5 people and says they are capable of giving you £3000 for your visit- it doesn’t sound believable without further explanation of their previous employment and how they have accumulated their savings. And these explanations of circumstances should be explained in the letter of support.
This letter is basically your sponsor discussing their circumstances to the entry clearance officer regarding the financial base they have, and how they can provide you with the sponsorship for your UK visit. Most of the explanations about money should be here to make your cover letter less cluttered. Here is my father’s letter of support –

Having an affidavit signed in the presence of a notary is NOT mandatory. But some are of the opinion that it solidifies your application, even though there is no documented proof.
The abridged version of the letter of support, excluding the explanations of the transactions and other circumstances, including the number of assets and their values, written in legal stamp papers, signed in the presence of an advocate will serve the purpose. Remember to take 1 copy passport-sized photos of you and your sponsor’s for the affidavit.
A fixed asset can be so many things- land, house, car, jewelry, etc. There are professional evaluation services who can evaluate the asset for you and give you the proper documentation to prove how much it is worth. These can then be attached with your visa application. Or if you present other documents like deeds/record of rights of land assets, the price will be mentioned there or you can put an estimated value in the affidavit as it will be signed in the presence of an advocate, thus making it legal .
And all the documents you are submitting, if any of it is NOT in ENGLISH (even a single seal, NOT logo), you have to translate and notarize it. These translation centers will be able to provide you with the affidavit of financial sponsorship too according to the pattern of your country’s own.
My sponsor has transferred all the money after printing the statement before even i got the visa. will it be a problem.
Yes. The visa officer may check with your financial institution and when they are considering your application the bank account will have no money then. If you have already done it, the best solution would be to deposit it all back and stay hopeful.
There is no absolute harm if you do that. But the problem is not explaining the credit in your account from your sponsor’s account. Both statements have to be explained well in this case. On the other hand, if the financial sponsor has stated they will support you, they can even not transfer the money. Just follow the above guidance to prove their sponsorship.
That also doesn’t portray that you are financially stable. If you say that you are unemployed, it is always a good idea to show a financial sponsor for your trip.
Well, they can. But in that case, his circumstances should be explained too. He can add a letter of support stating as to how he can pay for that and also how he supports other dependents on him with documentary evidence of his income and savings, as stated above.
It’s always a good idea to add a letter of support from your sponsor. That makes your cover letter less cluttered, and explanations of things are easier this way.
Making a large deposit in a bank account just prior to your application is a big red flag. Even if the money comes from a well-explained source, chances are it will be seen as “funds parking” which proves little to no connection to the local economy, thus not a genuine visitor. It’s always a better idea to wait for a few months after the transaction has happened.
If you state in your application that you are employed, you MUST explain your own financial circumstances with your income certificate/payslip and your OWN bank statement. If it’s evident that you can’t support this visit by yourself from your financial circumstances then comes the sponsor and explanation of theirs.
I think I have already answered that. Just a statement about how he is close to you i.e personal relationship and show all the things that are stated above.
Simply explain the big transactions one by one, where it came from or where it went and provide the evidence of that. For example, if someone bought a car, obviously there should be documents to prove how much was the car, thus the debit from the account can be explained. In the same way, if someone sells anything, the appropriate documentation to prove that credit should also be added.
That’s the best case if you are employed, taken a leave from your workplace for the purpose of taking PLAB 2, have your own account that you have to maintain for a quite a long time, and have sufficient balance in it. But still, you can add a sponsor to strengthen your case. Absolutely no harm in that.
No problem at all. If the source of the money can be explained by the sponsor – savings from a job, business or earned by selling property, jewellery, etc then it is well and good.
In the end, the basic thing is to prove to the entry clearance officer that you have access to enough funds for your trip to the UK for the time you have mentioned in your application. And all the papers you have added accounts for the claims that you made in your cover letter or throughout your application. Despite this long discussion, if you have any queries, there is always a helping community in social media. ASK AROUND. You will definitely find someone who was in your shoes and can give you proper guidance.

Hi, I’m Shourjomoy, an IMG from India, and I’ve recently received my PLAB 2 visitor visa to the UK. In this blog, I will tell you about the various steps involved in applying for a PLAB-2 visa and provide tips to ensure you can successfully get your visa. In this blog, I’m going to cover the following topics:
• What kind of visa do you require for PLAB 2
• How to apply for a PLAB-2 visa
• Documents you need to provide
• Visa Cover Letter
• Biometrics appointment
• Visa processing time
You need a Standard Visitor Visa to sit the PLAB-2 exam in the UK. The basic cost of this visa is £100, and the period of validity is 6 months. You can also attend a short recreational course in the UK during your stay (this is the kind of course that the PLAB 2 academies provide in the UK, so you can ideally include this in your itinerary on your cover letter).
So how do I apply for a PLAB-2 visa?
Before I get to the main procedure, an important point to remember is that you can’t apply for the visa more than 3 months before your intended travel date. Once you’ve entered the three-month window for the application, you can follow these steps to finish and submit your application:
• First, you need to visit the gov.uk “Visa and Immigration” webpage. A quick google search should be enough. From the top of the page, choose “Visit the UK”, then “Visit the UK as a Standard Visitor”. You can “Check if you need a UK visa”, which is the first link provided on the page because different countries have different privileges.
• Once you’ve read through the page, at the bottom, you’ll find a link to apply for the visa online.
• The link will take you to an online form that is broken into several sections, through which you can save and progress, so there’s no necessity to finish the entire form in one sitting. Take your time, and fill in all the details carefully. You can also go back to points to edit any mistakes you might have made. I also recommend downloading PDFs of the form-in-progress so that you can check your details as you go along.
• Once you’ve completed the form, you’ll need to make the payment of £100, which is the standard fee for the Visitor visa.
• This should take you to another page, VFSglobal in my case (might differ by country), which mediates the process of collecting the documents and sending the application, as well as the biometrics appointment.
• On the VFSglobal page, you have the option to upload your documents (PDFs preferably) and to take additional services like Priority Visa, which costs an additional £250 (I’ll come to why you might consider this option later on).
Your standard visitor visa application should contain the following main categories of documents:
• Proof Of Identity: Copies of passport and Aadhar Card (National Identification Card)
• Documents Supporting Purpose of Visit: Your PLAB 2 booking confirmation from GMC UK, your PLAB 2 recreational course booking confirmation, and an accommodation booking letter (or invitation letter from the owner of the accommodation you’ll be staying at during your stay).
• Documents Supporting Professional Status: Medical College Final year mark sheet, your PLAB 1 passing letter, your Internship Completion Certificate, IELTS Academic Test Report Form, Certificate for Full Registration from your state medical council, and your Original Degree Certificate.
• Documents related to Financial Sponsorship and Evidence of ties to Home Country: Sponsor’s letter of support, sponsor’s bank statements of the last 6 months, sponsor’s Income tax return form for the FY 21-22, copies of parents’ passports and national ID cards, and a copy of your Birth Certificate.
• Evidence of Home Address: Home electricity bill (preferably within the last 3 months.
Admittedly, this is an exhaustive list of documents I’ve mentioned here, and you might not need to provide all of them. However, given that this is quite a costly affair, and visa applications often get rejected, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Personally, I provided all of the abovementioned documents.
Aside from these, you’ll require a visa cover letter as well.
A cover letter is a letter you need to provide along with the visa application summarizing your application and the purpose of the visit. In general, it should contain the following sections:
• A general paragraph explaining your background and the purpose of the visit
• An overall timeline of your educational qualifications and present employment
• Ties to your home country (your parents’ names, their occupations, your home address)
• Details of financial sponsorship for your trip (duration of visit, planned total expenses, how much your sponsor has in their accounts)
• Your planned accommodation in the UK (with address)
• Your itinerary
• A summary of your application
• A list of the documents you wish to provide under the subheadings I’ve mentioned previously.
Once you’ve submitted the visa application, and uploaded all the documents at VFSglobal, you can book a biometrics appointment with a VFSglobal centre in your city. I’d suggest booking an appointment at least 4-5 days in advance so that you have enough time to modify your cover letter or add to your list of documents you want to provide.
You need to upload all the documents within 24 hours prior to your appointment time, so its essential to give yourself the time. The appointment itself will only take around 15-20 minutes, and your part of the work is officially complete!
Good question. So, the standard pathway (the standard £100 fee process) can take anywhere between 1-3 months, depending on the demand for UK visas globally at that moment. If you require the visa quicker, you can take the Priority service at VFSglobal, taking your total visa application cost to £350, guaranteeing that you receive the visa within 7 working days.
• Be honest about your itinerary, and make sure your accommodation booking period accounts for the entire intended period of stay in the UK.
• Make sure your sponsor has at least 3-4 times the total intended expenses in their bank account (you can provide statements from savings accounts as well as fixed deposits).
• Some people suggest not mentioning the academy course on your application. I did mention it, and it wasn’t an issue for me. Just make sure you describe the course correctly.
• If you apply by the standard pathway, apply as soon as possible within the 3-month window because it might take a while to receive the visa.
• You can consider taking the document scanning service to ensure that you can modify your document list even at the biometrics appointment.

Uk visitor visa for plab 2.
If you have already read our overview on PLAB you will know that the second part of the test is held in the UK and you will need a UK Visitor Visa to sit the PLAB 2 examination.
Here we put together the main information you will need as well as useful links to get you started and we will look at the following:
The first thing to suggest, is that as soon as you receive your PLAB 1 results, start planning the date that you want to sit PLAB 2. This will not only help you prepare for the test itself, but also will ensure that when you apply for the Visitor Visa, you will be prepared for your Visa application and appointment, and able to visit the UK within the 6-month visa period.
If you are not sure if you need a Visa – you can check here .
You can apply for a ‘Standard Visitor Visa’ if you are a doctor and are coming to the UK to take the Professional Linguistic and Assessment Board (PLAB) test 2 . The option you require is a “ Work, Academic visit or Business ” visa and the duration is less than six months.
The UK Visa Application for PLAB 2 can be described in two parts:
Let’s take a look at each part in more detail.
As part of the online application, you will be required to book an appointment at a visa application centre, you can check the locations available here .
You can complete the application in stages; however we advise you prepare all the required documentation first, and the complete the online form and upload everything you need in one go.
A standard UK visa currently costs £100 .
It is important to note that the required documents will vary from person to person, however two documents are necessary for every applicant:
You will then typically require the following:
This is only required if your trip is financed by another person (i.e. family member).
This is done before a notary public. This will have to be translated into English.
Any letter of recommendations will need to come from senior colleagues at your current workplace.
Typically 6 months (yours / your sponsors).
A clear copy is needed with all information visible.
Deeds or Nationality Certificate or Home electricity bill where the address is written. This will need to be translated and notarised.
A ‘No Objection Letter’ for visa is a legal certificate issued by your employer agreeing for you to take off the days for you visit to the UK. In addition, the letter states that you have contractual obligations to return to your country of residence at your workplace.
Or, invitation letter from friend or family of whom you will be staying with. You may also require a Council tax and utility bill of the accommodation address. If it’s a family that you’re staying with, you don’t need to worry about proving Sponsorship. If they are just providing accommodation (and your father or mother is your financial guarantor), a simple invitation letter stating your name, your passport number, duration and purpose of your stay is sufficient along with their contact details. The council tax and utility bill is just to prove that the address exists by their name.
These would include Passport copies or National ID copies of your family members.
Finally comes the declaration page which asks you to choose an appointment (date and time) with a visa application centre. Please note that you don’t have to choose immediately, especially if you don’t have all the supporting documents ready. Just save it there and a link will be sent to your email. But as above, at IMG Connect we recommend that you have all the supporting documents prepared before starting your UK Visitor Visa for PLAB 2 application.
Whilst the exam is taken in one day, we advise for candidate to allow themselves a few days for acclimatisation and revision prior to the exam. When budgeting, make sure that you book flights, hotels and UK transport to and from the airport in advance to save money.
Once in the UK, a typical low-cost budget for a comfortable stay will include approximately:
* remember to consider flights & travel insurance costs in your total budget
Always remember to use price comparison websites or Airbnb to find the best value for money and close to transport & test venues.
You will receive a letter from the Home Office detailing the reasons for rejecting the application. Don’t worry, you can apply again.

Transparency of the document is the key in making successful visa application. Make sure whatever documents you provide is backed by a reliable evidence.

hi there.. I am not employed, So I will have to find a job before I can apply?
If you are unemployed, your ties back home will not be very strong, but having said that, many unemployed doctors are also easily getting PLAB 2 visa. On your part, make sure you show a strong sponsor letter and a bank statement. Best of luck.
can i show that my husband/family lives the homeland rather giving any NOC if i am unemployed at the time of applying for visa? would that work in satisfying them??
You can do that. Family members in home is also an explanation for home ties.
Hi.. sidharatha.. great info.. I want to know if i have one of my parent as a sponsor, do I still need to have three times of the cost of trip in my account.?

The rules, guidelines and criteria for working as a doctor in the UK change frequently. Please make sure you check the latest official guidance before taking action.
Most IMGs who are not UK or EU nationals, will need the Standard Visitor Visa if they want to come to the UK for the following reasons:
Related: How to find a UK clinical attachment
You can check by visiting this link simply answering the three questions. The 3 questions should generally be answered like this:
There used to be a Business Visitor Visa with a specific PLAB version. This has now been replaced by the Standard Visitor Visa, so if you are visiting the UK for the PLAB exam and need a visa, forget about looking for the Business Visitor or PLAB visa. You now need to apply for the Standard Visitor Visa .
Related: What you need to know about PLAB
In most cases, your visa will be valid for 6 calendar months and you can enter and leave the UK multiple times within that 6-month period.
Eg. If your visa is valid from January 1st, 2019 to June 30, 2019. This means you can enter the UK on January 15, 2019, stay for 3 months, and leave on April 16, 2019. You can then come back on May 10, 2019 and leave on June 30, 2019.
It does not mean that you can stay in the UK for 6 months over a calendar period of more than 6 months.
Eg. If your visa is valid from January 1st, 2019, it does not mean you can enter the UK on January 15, 2019, stay for 3 months, leave on April 16, 2019, then come back in June 15, 2019, and stay for another 3 months and leave on September 15, 2019.
This will be seen as overstaying and will jeopardise any future visa application.
You can also apply for a long-term visitor visa for 2, 5 or 10 years. Each visit you make on this visa cannot be longer than 6 months.
Sometimes your visa will be valid for less than 6 months, this depends on multiple factors in your application including what you’ve written in your cover letter as the purpose of the visit, the amount of funds you have available to you, your ties to your home country, and your travel history. Submitting the correct paperwork is essential.

A Standard Visitor Visa costs £95, this usually covers the standard 6-month period. For a long-term visa, the fees are as follows:

What you cannot do with your Standard Visitor Visa:
Yes, but they will need to apply for their own visitor visa. So they’ll need to have their own passport, submit their own visitor visa application, and pay another fee.
If you’re planning to bring your children with you, the guidelines for visa applicants under the age of 18 are outlined in this official guidance. The name of the parents must be included in the application and the child will only be able to enter the UK if they arrive in the UK with you.
You can apply for a Visitor Visa as early as 3 months ahead of the day you plan to travel to the UK. You cannot apply any earlier than this.
Eg. You plan to travel on March 5. This means you can submit your visa application on December 6. You won’t be able to submit your application before December 6.
But you should start preparing your paperwork for your visa application even before this.
This is the part of your application that you can prepare in advance. The most important components include a valid passport, information about your finances, brief cover letter stating the purpose of your visit (personally when I applied for a visitor visa in 2013 and 2014 I did not submit a cover letter at all), and supporting information about your visit.
Be sure you prepare the relevant paperwork for the different GMC requirements needed during your visit.
We will write a separate post about Visitor Visa paperwork in the near future including my suggested sample cover letter.
The application procedure has two phases.
I’ll give you a step-by-step guide to complete your application in a future blog post!
You should receive a decision within 3 weeks of submitting your application.
The UK Standard Visitor Visa is an important hurdle for most IMGs on their path to the UK. This article runs through the very essential things you need to know including who needs it, how much it costs, and how long it’s valid for.
In a future post, I’ll discuss the documents you should submit with your application, what not to submit, and provide a sample cover letter. I’ll also show you step-by-step how to complete your application form in another post.

Hi, I hAve booked my OSCE test, and I have just submitted my visa application. But when I counted the days remaining to the exam date I found that it is 12 days to three months. Please what can I do? and is my application still valid for consideration
Hi there, I’m afraid we’re not able to advise on visa issues. You may find it useful to ask IMGs who have recent experience with that in one of the IMG Facebook groups. You can find the links to relevant Facebook groups here on our Useful Links page. https://thesavvyimg.co.uk/useful-links/ Hope it works out!
Could there be any problem when you get D-PLAB Test as they type of Visa issued and I’m going to visit family and friends for few days. What does D-PLAB Test because it’s different from PLAB 1&2.
Hi Ola, I have no idea what a D-PLAB test is. Are you sure you’re looking at the correct website? Please provide a link so we can assist further.
Hey I am applying for PLAB 1 and also doing a clinical attachment simultaneously. What should be my primary reason for the visit, since I can’t select both? Should I choose the other option and mention both or which should I choose? Please let me know. Thanks.
I’m not a visa expert but I would choose one option and then mention both in the additional details with letters for both.
Hello Nick! If I’m an IMG that is planning to sit PLAB 1&2 as well as a attending a PLAB 2 preparation course on a single 6-month visitor visa, do you think I would be able to do so? And how do you think the application should be filled out?
Thanks in advance!
Hi there! That might be possible if you can show that you have the funds to stay in the UK for 6 months, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to book a PLAB 2 date before your visa expires once you have passed PLAB 1. Keep in mind you can only book PLAB 2 once you receive the PLAB 1 result which takes about 8 weeks.
Is there anything we can do if visa expires before we’re able to take PLAB2 ? Should we wait another 6 months or?
Hi, you’d just need to reapply for a new visa.

Any doctor who wishes to practice medicine in the UK must register with the General Medical Council (GMC). Doctors who qualify overseas and wish to register must normally pass the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) to demonstrate their knowledge of English and their medical expertise.
Note: Doctors applying to take any other test or examination, such as those required to enter one of the Royal Colleges, will also be treated as General Visitors and must demonstrate that they meet all the requirements of the General Visitor Rules. This means that they should not be granted more than six months of leave as a General Visitor and they will be subject to the normal restrictions on General Visitors switching into other categories of leave.
(Only doctors are required to undertake the PLAB test, not dentists).
Doctors who qualified overseas and hold a qualification which is not recognised by the UK must pass the PLAB test in order to register with the GMC. Before coming to the UK they must pass a pre-assessment test the ‘International English Language Testing System’ (IELTS) assessment test.
(i) The IELTS is designed to ascertain whether the doctor has a reasonable command of the English language in order to sit The PLAB test.
(ii) The IELTS tests are held both overseas in various countries and in the United Kingdom.
(iii) If the doctor passes the different stages of the test he will be allowed to sit the PLAB test in the United Kingdom.
(iv) Doctors are required to take the PLAB test to demonstrate their knowledge of medical English and their medical skills and knowledge.
(v) The PLAB test is divided into two separate assessments, Part 1 and Part 2.
(vi) The GMC stipulates that doctors must pass Part 1 before they can be admitted to Part 2 of the test.
(vii) Where a candidate severely fails Part 1, the GMC will not allow him to re-sit Part 1 until a period of at least four months has elapsed from the date of the failed test.
Entry clearance only mandatory for visa nationals seeking to enter the UK to take the PLAB test
Although all the requirements of paragraph 75a must be met, the main points on which the ECO needs to be satisfied are that the applicant:
A candidate who applies for leave to enter in the United Kingdom to sit the PLAB test should produce evidence from the GMC, which may take the form of:
Entry clearance is only mandatory for visa nationals.
Doctors who pass the PLAB test are not permitted to switch into any skilled employment route within the points-based system.
Those Doctors in the UK to take the PLAB test are not permitted to switch into the category for Postgraduate doctors, dentists and trainee practitioners ( paragraph 75A of the Immigration Rules).
Doctors who come to the UK to take the PLAB test may undertake periods of clinical attachment during their leave. There is no need to apply separately to undertake a clinical attachment, unless the period of the clinical attachment goes on beyond the expiry of the doctor’s leave in the UK to take the PLAB test.
Entry clearance should be endorsed:
C: PLAB test. LTE 6 months. Code 3
If the requirements of paragraph 75D are met, the applicant should normally be granted six months leave at a time up to a maximum of 18 months.
Wording for refusals: Section 1-5 can be downloaded from this guidance page.

Naseer's Journey
The journey is easier than you can imagine.
PLAB is the licencing exam for International Medical Graduates wishing to practice in the UK. PLAB has two parts, PLAB 1 and PLAB 2.
House Job is not a part of the roadmap for PLAB or a prerequisite at any stage of your journey to the UK. But I thought it was worth mentioning here that it’s best to not skip your house job for the following two reasons.
Since PLAB 2 is only held in Manchester. You might need a visa to go to the UK for PLAB 2. It is important to get your things in order for your visa application well before you apply for your visa.
In order to apply for GMC registration, you will need to get your primary medical qualifications (MBBS degree) verified by ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). So technically, you will need this step after PLAB 2 and before GMC registration. However, this process can take time. This is why it is ideal to start this process as soon as you graduate. You can get more guidance about this here .
IELTS is an English language test. To qualify for PLAB 1, You need IELTS Academic or IELTS UKVI Academic with 7.0 in each of the four areas and an overall score of 7.5 bands. IELTS is valid for two years.
However, IELTS does not need to be valid in order to sit in PLAB 2.
PLAB 1 is a knowledge test comprising of 200 questions that have to be answered in 3 hours. It only tests your clinical knowledge and not your basic science.
It is conducted in the UK in March, June, September and November. It is conducted overseas in March and November only.
Depending on where you live, you might need a visa to go to the UK for PLAB 2.
PLAB 2 is an OSCE examination, comprising of 18 stations. It takes 3 hours and 20 minutes.
It is conducted twice a month, but only in Manchester, UK. It is not conducted in any other city or country.
After passing, PLAB 2, you can apply for GMC registration.
Once you’re registered with the GMC, you’re eligible to work in the UK.

Any particular housejob rotation required or not????
6 months in Surgery and/or allied, with at least 3 months in Gen. Surgery.
6 months in Medicine and/or allied, with at least 3 months in Gen. Medicine.
Will I have a problem if I do anaesthesia for 6 months instead of surgery for my housejob?
I’m not sure.
Please, can you help me with visa homework, the requirements, etc. Thank you.
Scroll through the list of topics in my blog. You will find topics relating to visa homework. If you have any queries, you can always message me. 🙂
hello, after completing Plab 1and 2 , and completing f1 and f2, how much time should i wait till being accepted and enrolled in a residency program , i am interested in cardiac/thoracic surgery , so, is it worth to apply in peripheral centers rather than central to
This might help you. Let me know if you have further questions. http://omarsguidelines.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/cmt-application-process-for-imgs.html?m=1
Hi Aoa.. Is there a time limit within which you have to appear for PLAB2 after passing PLAB1? What if we pass PLAB1 but cant get visa for PLAB2 prompltly? Would our PLAB1 expire after some time or we may go for PLAB2 anytime after getting our visa, no matter after how much time?
PLAB 1 is valid for 2 years of passing PLAB 2. It’s more than enough time. So don’t worry about it. 🙂
is it difficult to get visa for June PLAB 1 in UK is plab 1 visa more difficult than plab 2 is a 6 mounths bank statement mandatory
1. It is not difficult to get a PLAB 1 visa. It depends on your finances and luck.
2. Getting a PLAB 1 visa is relatively difficult compared to getting a PLAB 2 visa. As they might object that you can take the exam in your home country.
3. A 6-month bank statement is not mandatory, but ideal.
If I clear PLAB 1&2 and skip house job in my home country, how many chances are there to get a job in U.K.? Do clinical electives done in the U.K. Count while applying for job?. If I want to specialise in psychiatry what’s the pathway? Thanking you in anticipation
A. https://naseersjourney.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/training-in-the-uk/
B. Clinical Attachment helps in the following ways:
1. It makes you familiar with the NHS. 2. It gives you valuable experience for your CV. 3. At the end of your attachment, you often get an employment contract offered.
However, not having an attachment makes no difference on your job prospects. Most candidates do not have attachments and still find jobs. I myself did not have any attachments and I am still getting job offers.
C. I am not sure, honestly. You can post this on the main PLAB Facebook group. 🙂
AoA bhai Naseer, I want to get training in Orthopedic surgery, What would be the criteria?
I don’t know much about Surgery. But from what I hear, it’s not easy to enter surgery training in the UK, unless you’re a British or EU citizen. If you work here for 6 years, you can become a national.
as u told that plab 1 is valid for 2 years. but uk policy is changing in 2019 so are wo supposed to pass plab 2 in 2018 before the new policy OR GMC will allow us to give plab 2 in 2019.. please clear this confusion. and what is the validity of plab 2 ?
This is unclear and the GMC is refraining from commenting. I wrote to the GMC regarding this. But they did not comment.
may you please advise on how to get into foundation training as a non eea citizen without the right to work. i have not done an internships so i do not qualify for full registration and mos\t jobs\ other than f1 foundation jobs with provisional registration
I’m sorry but I do not know much about this route. I do, however, know someone who can help with this route, as they are also going through it. If you send me a private message, I can tell you how to contact them.
Thank you so much for your prompt response.I have sent you a message via the contact form in the contact section.
Perfect. I got your email and I have already sent you a reply! 🙂
I have checked my email and refreshed a few times however , i unfortunately did not receive your email. I checked the spam folder as well just in case.If it wouldn’t be too much trouble , may you please double check from your end and/or resend? Thank you.
I have sent it again, just now. Kindly check again.
I am about to start my final year so whats the best time to give ielts and plab1 as i dont want to waste my time secondly how much gap should be there max btw plab 1 and plab 2?
1. Take IELTS just before graduating.
2. Take PLAB 1 as soon as possible after graduating.
3. PLAB 2 must be taken within 2 years of passing PLAB 1.
hello sir..i completed my mbbs in 2013…i worked as a medical officer for 2 years in india after which i took a 3 year break to prepare for post graduation studies..i dint crack the exam so im back working as a medical officer and preparing for plab..will these 3yrs of unemployment cause any problem for me while gmc registration
They might cause a bit of a delay but they will not stop you from working in the UK.
House job isnt equivalent to internship we do afyer completing mbbs ??? If not, then how can we do that ??? I mean to ask whether working with some.local hospital in med or surgery dept will suffice for the said 6 months ????
House Job and Internship is the same thing. I don’t understand your last question.
Hi, what about when you have done only 6 months of practise and 1 year and a half working as a doctor in your country? Is this ok as a house job or i should start from Fy1 here in uk? And please where i can contact you for more questions? Thank you
House Job is recognized properly in every country as a House Job. If you have not done that, you will begin your career from FY1 in the UK.
You can post any questions here and I will get back to you. If your questions are of a personal nature, you can email me via the “Contact” section of the blog.
Thank you Dr. Naseer for your efforts I have a different question, what kind of job is offered to us as international graduates? Is it a residency training program? if yes what is the name of the degree we get after completing the residency program? And what is the difference between training and non-training posts?
For an example if I want to be an emergency physician and I finished my PLAB 2, what do I have to do next?
I have been reading a lot in the GMC website and other websites, but I can’t seem to understand.
It will take a few minutes but kindly read this post completely, including all the FAQs. It answers all the questions that you have asked. 🙂
https://naseersjourney.com/2017/03/12/training-in-the-uk/
I have done 1 year rotating internship in all the departments, but medicine and surgery departments were respectively 2months each! Does this count or what do I have to do in order to compensate for 6months? Does working under that particular department in any hospital count ?
Since you have completed your internship, you can not go back and change it now.
Keep in mind that working in sub-specialties counts as working in that respective department. For example, working in OBGYN and Pediatrics counts as working in surgery and medicine, respectively.
Are you sure of the fact paeds counts towards medicine?! I knew about the 3 months in each of surgery and medicine thing kind of late and was panicking since my internship program is fixed and is starting in about a month!
P.S.: Thank you so very much for this blog! I feel like we all owe you greatly!
Yes, I am sure. You can confirm this by emailing the GMC about this. I would never advise you to listen to me or anyone else blindly. It is always best to confirm from the official source. 🙂
And thank you for your kind words! 🙂
Is the Australian Medical Council exam recognised in the UK? I hold a AMC certificate will it carry any weight? also after passing PLAB 1 and PLAB 2 do we get full registration immediately? or do we get provisional reg and have to secure a job offer and work for 12 months to get full registration? Also what are the chance of getting into residency in the UK? i have completed my internship and have not worked since and completed both parts of the AMC. what other courses or CPD activities would you suggest to attend to add to the CV that will be useful for the uk job applications? Please advice. thank you.
1. No value.
3. If you have completed internship, then, yes. https://naseersjourney.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/training-in-the-uk/
4. If you have not completed your internship, then you get provisional registration and you have to complete your two years of FY on that. https://naseersjourney.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/training-in-the-uk/
5. Depends on which specialty you want to apply for. https://naseersjourney.com/2017/04/25/training-availability-in-the-uk/
6. Follow the points mentioned here for improving your CV. They will apply on you as well. 🙂 https://naseersjourney.com/2017/05/13/guidance-for-undergraduates/
Hello Sir.. It was almost making all questions clear by reading your blog. One question i had if we pass Plab1 and we require IELTS for it and as you said we don’t need ilets for plab2.. So can i get visa easily with if my ilets is expired and can i get regestered with GMC without Ilets??
You can get your visa for PLAB 2 without IELTS. But you do need IELTS for GMC registration.
This might help:
https://naseersjourney.com/2017/02/11/about-ielts/
Hi Dr Naseer. First off thank you so much for your wonderful and thoroughly informative+encouraging blog. Can you please tell me what you think is the ideal time to space out the three tests one has to sit i.e the IELTS PLAB1 and PLAB2? I am ~6months from graduating medical school. After that, I will have just a little less than three months before i start my housejob (internship). If i give IELTS in october ’17 and then after graduating give PLAB 1 in march ’18 (with two months prep?) and then after a year of housejob give my PLAB 2 in mid 2019, will it be realistically possible? PS. Although i am an average student i would not shy from a couple of months hard work if it saves me time.
The timeline you’ve described is perfect. PLAB 1 can be managed VERY easily in 2 months. If you find it hard to believe, please read this. 🙂
https://naseersjourney.com/2017/04/24/azooz-alhashimis-plab-1-experience/
You should also keep in mind that we need to be employed for 6 months (ideally) before applying for our visa for PLAB 2. If you apply for your visa right after your House Job, you would be unemployed. So that’s risky.
In this case, you should work for 3 to 6 months as MO/RMO before applying for your visa. So in this case, you would take your PLAB 2 in the second half of 2019.
Keeping all of the above in mind, even if you take PLAB 1 in November 2018, it’s not a bad idea. You can take your IELTS after graduation in this scenario.
People have received their visas without being employed or only after being employed for a month as well, but it’s risky and I do not recommend it.
I hope this helps. Best of luck! 🙂
Do take other people’s opinions as well, from Facebook groups. 🙂
Hello! First of all, I would like to say that I am very pleased that I’ve found your blog! It surely gave me hope haha I have just one question: I’m from Brazil and, here, we go through our House Job (internship) before graduation (it’s actually part of our medical training). It’s duration is 2 years, more than enough to complete the demands of 6 months clinical and 6 months surgical training. In this case, which way should I go? How should I proceed? Is it possible to skip FY1 and FY2 and go straight to CP?
Thank you very much in advance!
I am not sure since none of my friends had done a pre-graduate internship. It would be best to post this question on Facebook to get advice from people who have gone through this road. I am sorry for not being more knowledgeable about this. But if you find anything, please do share it with me so I can help others in the future. Thank you!
Hi Naseer, Iane, this post is from 2017 so one of you may be able to help me. @Iane, did you succeed in getting to sit PLAB in the UK using your Brazilian primary medical qualification? I am enquiring on behalf of a friend who has a similar medical degree from Brazil,
Thanks. Peter
Hi, Peter! Actually, I have not yet finished my graduation in Brazil, so I can’t take the PLAB teste for now. However, I asked this in brazilian PLAB groups on Facebook, and tehy told me that, with our graduation, after the IELTS exam and PLAB 1 and 2, we’re able to skip the foundation year 1 and go directly to FY2.
Respected bro. I have query regarding criteria for appearing in PLAB 1 and GMC registration. I completed my mbbs degree in 2014 and then went for HJ. But unfortunately i have a gap of 5 months between my 2nd and 3rd rotations and secondly i didn’t opt general medicine amd general surgery for HJ rather i went for ophthalmology, paeds, and psychiatry. I only need to know with these types of rotations am i eligible to appear in plab1 and in the end to get the GMC. Will they inquire about my 5months gap and put a Q mark on not opting for general medicine and general surgery. Would you advise me to go for plab under these circumstances.. I will really appreciate your help and will remember it for the rest of my life. TIA
1. They will ask you to explain your 5-month gap in writing. There is no way of knowing if your internship will be accepted or not. It would be best to post on Facebook to ask others who have gone through this.
2. At least 12 months of internship with at least 3 months in medicine and at least 3 months in surgery is considered to be an acceptable pattern of internship. Medical and surgical sub-specialties count in medicine and surgery, respectively. For example, pediatrics and OBGYN are counted as medicine and surgery, respectively.
hi there. before I leave in my query, i must commend your initiative. it’s only rarely you ever come across people as willingly helpful as you are. 🙂 i’ve only recently graduated, and am currently doing my house job in cardiology, with my clinical attachment here being 3 months long, followed by serving 2 months in nephrology and a month of general medicine in the end. does this fulfill the criteria for a cumulative total of 3 months serving in medicine? secondly, if i were to spend 3 months in ENT, followed by general surgery (2 months) and orthopedics (a month), would it suffice said criteria for surgery? also, i’ve just given my IELTS, with my test result still pending. i’ve given the academic module and not the UKVI version of the test. i know i would have to apply for the visa process myself, but does it mean my having for sit for the IELTS test again?
1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. Yes.
Is there a specific time period or month when you can apply for jobs, or you can do it throughout the year, after gmc registration of course
Non-training jobs (which is our first job in the UK) are open throughout the year. You can apply any time of the year.
Training jobs always begin in August and applications open a few months earlier.
Hi Dr.Naseer sir. Thank you so much for sharing your experience through your blog. My questions being- 1)Is passing plab required to do fellowship in UK? If yes what score is needed to get into a standard university or is just passing enough? 2) For fellowship programs, how much weightage do the universities lay on research studies done during undergraduate level? Or again, just plassing plab would ensure a seat? Thank you Sir.
1. PLAB is not the only, but the easiest path for finding work in the UK. Please check this link: https://naseersjourney.com/2017/04/29/entry-routes-for-medical-practice-in-the-uk/
2. Research is just one of the many criterias. Most of my friends did not have research and still found training.
I have done house job 6months in gynae&obs and 6 months in paeds. So am i eligible?? N what about ielts? How to prepare for that?
Yes, you are.
https://naseersjourney.com/2017/02/09/studying-for-ielts/
amazing blog, thanks so much dr for all the useful info,
I have a question. I am from Palestine and I graduated in june/2016. I finished my internship in july/2017. I am starting my prep for plab since today. is this considered late? will I still be able to get a residency in UK? or is it too late?
It’s not considered late as year or graduation does not matter. All the best! 🙂
Currently I am doing my house job in Pakistan, i have completed 3 months of general surgery and 3 months of orthopedics. Now, I have to decide about the allied medicine rotation. Therefore, i wanted to know if housejob(internship) in pathology is acceptable in the uk or not? i have heard from some people that they don’t accept hj in patho and derma, plz guide in this regard.
I am not sure about this. You can always write to the GMC to confirm. But rules might change. So why not pick something that is more conventional?
hi I completed my mbbs in 2017 and i am starting house job in 2018 with almost 1 year gap during which i was self studying for usmle will i be able to get full registration after plab1 and 2
Dear Sir, I am Dr. Debasis Das from India. Firstly, I would like to thank you for creating such a wonderful blog and informative platform for all the PLAB aspirants. I have completed my M.B.B.S from Government Medical College of India in November 2010 and completed my one-year internship immediately thereafter, in November 2011. After that I worked as a Non PG junior resident in various Government Colleges of Delhi(India) till November 2015 without any break and I have got the experience certificates for the said period. Subsequently I started working as a Senior Medical officer(Factory) at a company named IFFCO, at present I am working at the same company. I am nearly 33 years old (D.O.B: – 18/05/1985) and I seek your guidance for the following: • Whether I am eligible to give PLAB test or am I too old for that • If yes, will it create any hindrance in getting a job in UK • For how long do I have to take leave from my company for PLAB 2 test in UK (The whole stay in UK for PLAB 2) • Whether ECFMG and GMC registration step can be done after clearing PLAB 1 Once again thank you Sir for all your support and good work.
9month in neonatology and 3 month in gen medicine is valid
I do not think this is because you have not worked in General Surgery.
https://naseersjourney.com/2017/10/21/acceptable-pattern-of-house-job-internship/
Hello Dr naseer First I want to thank you for your amazing blog! I graduate this June 2018, and my Internship starts July 2018 for 12 months. Im planning to sit for Plab 1 in november 2018, and for Plab 2 in January 2019. That to be able to apply for FY2 posts, and to start my FY2 post or non-training post by august 2019. I’ve read with regards to FY2, that I should be fully registered with the GMC atleast before my post commemces. Would I be able to apply for posts during my internship, having done both plab 1 and 2? As I will be eligible for full registration and just waiting for my internship to end…
thank you for your help 🙂
You will only get full registration after you complete your internship.
yes I know that. Does it mean that I cant appy until Im fully registered? Somewhere else in your blog you mentioned that its okay to apply before full registration.
Wow. I must completely appreciate the highly informative blog you have here Dr. I spent hours going through posts and comments and I must say I am better informed about procedures and steps for the processes involved in finally getting to practice in the UK and get the kind of training I hope to get. Maybe someday in future I’ll meet you physically. I am a final year student just a week to my final Mbbs exams. Keep up the good work though. I’d like like to have your email if that’s OK.
Thank you for your kind words! You can contact me here: facebook.com/NaseersJourney

"Together we conquer"
Throughout whole PLAB journey, I felt most stressed during visa application process. It was so messy and confusing. Even with the help from senior PLABers, there was so many unanswered questions.
Let’s get to work-
First go to Access UK platform and start answering questions one after another. Before finally submitting the application you can change your answers. So first give it a go and fill up all the questions to get an idea about all of them. While providing information, fill up all the information according to your passport(that’s your base if there’s any confusion like spelling of name etc.) You need to provide information about-
*Your Name *Passport Number *Nationality *Date of birth *Type of visa *NID number *Contact Email
*Date of Arrival *Date of departure *Total Duation of Visit *Reason for visit *Details of your visit
Remember, you can change any information any time before final submission and also can fill it up part by part over days.
*Printed pdf of the completed online application. *Printed pdf of the documents checklist. * Passport. *Email confirmation of PLAB 2 booking. *Cover letter *All papers regarding MONEY.
*Evidence of home address (A Nationality Certificate, OR Home Utility Bill) *Accommodation in the UK (Letter of invitation/Hotel Booking, Utility bill and Council Tax bill of the address you’ll be staying at) *Evidence of family members whilst you travel (Passport Copies of your family members, OR National ID copies-translated and notarized) *Own National ID copy-translated and notarized *Email confirming passing in PLAB 1 and GMC reference no. details *Copy of Primary Medical qualification certificate *Copy of Internship Completion Certificate. *Booking confirmation of PLAB 2 Course from Academy *Copy of IELTS test report form. *If you are employed-
*ANY OTHER PAPERS, which might be different from my case to you, like marriage certificate etc.
You need to collect only 4-5 documents.
1) Write a cover letter & Letter of support (if you have a sponsor) first. There are templates for both in Dr. Ivan’s blog. Edit it with your own information. You are good to go. 2) Then you need to contact with bank and collect 2 documents: Solvency Certificate, Bank Statements for last 6 months 3)If you submit Nationality Certificate as evidence of home address translate it & notarized it. You can collect it from Chairman’s office or Ward Commissioner’s office. 4) Collect Income Certificate from your regional tax office. Ask them to issue it in English so that you don’t have to translate & notarize. 5)For Affidavit of Sponsorship, you need to talk to an advocate. They will arrange for everything. I did it from Chittagong. In Dhaka, if you contact with shops opposite National press club they will arrange it for you. You can write your own using template from Dr. Ivan’s blog.
That’s all. Now you are ready to submit your visa application.
Once you declare and submit your visa application, they will show available date and time slot. Usually, dates are available within 1-2 days.
Before going to submit, make two sets of all essential documents. One is original and one is photocopy. Arrange both sets in following order-
1.Passport 2. Copy of National ID 3. A letter from the relevant UK authority confirming arrangements: a) PLAB 2 booking confirmation from GMC UK. 4. Other documents related to General Medical Council (GMC), UK: a) PLAB 1 passing letter and test results. b) GMC Reference Number details. 5. Academic Certificates: a) Copy of MBBS certificate. b) Copy of Internship Completion Certificate c) Copy of IELTS UKVI Test Report Form. 6. Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) certificate of full registration. 7. Evidence of family members in home country whilst I travel: 8. Evidence of Home Address: 9. Accommodation in UK: 10.PLAB 2 preparatory course booking confirmation at your course. 11. Documents related to financial Sponsorship
Don’t forget to photocopy your whole passport including empty pages. They will ask for it.
With all documents and visa fee, go to VFS global at Delta tower(Gulshan-2) and take a token from ground floor security and go to 5 th floor. Wait there until it’s your turn. You will have 45 minutes to complete all procedures.
The officer at counter will check if you have all the required documents and will tell you to pay the visa fee in nearby counter. After that she will give you a slip as a proof which you need to receive your passport later.
It will take around 7-14 working days to get an email telling you to receive your documents from VFS global.
# For notary and translation, you can go to Purana Paltan Moore. There are several translation centers & will take around 100-150 per document for notary & translation. # If there’s any problem with spelling of your/parents name & address, stick with the one written in passport. # About money, there’s no definite rule. But it is good to have in your bank account more than triple the amount you are planning to spend during your trip. The type of bank account also doesn’t matter. You can show all kinds of account like current account, savings account, FDR etc. You can also show any other types of property with proper documentation like house, share etc. But you must have adequate cash (at least double the amount you’re going to spend) in your bank account. # For accommodation, academy won’t give you any letter unless you pay in advance. If you are not willing to do it, you can just submit the email stating that you have booked accommodation with academy. Another way is using booking.com. You can book a cheap hotel for few days without paying and submit confirmation email as proof. # VFS global is very notorious. Sometimes they want to take extra money from you for “walk in’’ showing some vague reason. Don’t fall for this trap. # You can endorse Pound from Money exchanger but the limit is 600 USD and no documents required. You can endorse more than that from money exchanger but can’t show it legally in your passport. If you need to endorse more money & need to show it your passport, then go to a bank. You need to bring plane ticket with you. I don’t the reason behind this bizarre rule. [ No need to endorse money before visa]
# Booking flight: First thing you should do after getting visa for PLAB 2 is to book a flight. You can do it online. You can directly fly to London/Manchester according to your choice. You need to book a round trip. That way, it will be cheaper. If you want to change your return date, you can do it with extra 50-100 USD before your flight.
if you need to take a connecting flight, try to keep a 2-3 hours gap between two flights’ arrival & departure.
Also, most airlines offer online check in 24-48 hours before. So if you want to avoid standing in a queue.
# Shopping: I can assure you that everything you need for everyday life, you can buy it in UK. The price is also reasonable. So no need to shop unnecessary things. Don’t buy Jacket or other winter clothes from BD. It’s cheaper & better in UK. Just buy regular clothing and necessary books for exam purpose. Don’t forget to buy a good trolley bag & side bag. It will save you from a lot of trouble.
You can try this packing list by travelsmith: https://www.travelsmith.com/images/travelsmith/en_us/local/page_specific/customer-service/packing-list.pdf
#Money Endorsement: If you want to take money legally from BD to outside, you need to endorse it in your passport. It can be done from Money Exchager/Any bank. But, you can’t endorse more than 600 USD from money exchange. If you need more than that go to a bank and take your passport & photocopy of passport and flight ticket with you.
# Documents: Have a set of photocopy of all documents that you’ve submitted for visa application. Have your itinerary printed and ready. Keep your passport, ticket and money with you safely always.
Both in BD & UK immigration, I didn’t face anything awkward. Specially UK immigration officers were super friendly. As soon as they know you are doctor coming for PLAB, they won’t ask you anything. So no need to worry.

Hi I m a doctor from Bangladesh going to pursue my UK journey via PLAB route. I have a query. The Spelling of my father’s name on my passport is same as it is on his passport. But on my internship completion certificate there is slight spelling mistake of my father’s name. Would it create an issue at any stage? If then how can I fix it? TIA
Hi. Your passport will always be main proof of identity while travelling outside. Also getting a new internship certificate will be easier than getting a new passport. Thanks.
Please kindly confirm, i didnt see that you submited any flight itinerary. Is it necessary? Thanks
The moment PLAB1 results are out, all successful candidates race to the GMC website to book PLAB2 slots and it doesn’t take long for them to fill up. It is thus better to plan out the next steps while waiting for the PLAB1 result. An important thing to plan for is the visa for PLAB2 as the exam is held in the UK alone.
Here are some of the frequently asked questions, answered!
Do I need a visa for PLAB2?
It depends on your nationality and the best place to check for this is the official website- gov.uk
What type of visa do I need?
For PLAB2, you need to apply for ‘Standard Visitor Visa’ and the reason to be chosen in the application is ‘‘Work, Academic visit or Business’’ as this category covers appearing for an exam.
The validity of this visa type is 6 months.
The fee for this visa is £100
How should I apply?
Once you have booked the exam slot, you can start the visa application process. Do remember to factor in the time it takes to apply for a visa and receive a decision while booking- keeping the date too close can be risky.
There are two steps involved:
Online application
It can be accessed and completed via the following website- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor/apply-standard-visitor-visa
Do remember to have all the required documents and information at hand while you do so. Though even if you miss some, the application gets saved and can be filled up in stages. It is still strongly advisable to do it in one go.
Documents required
The following documents and information are required for applying for the visa:
The biometric appointment
As a part of the online application, you are asked to choose a visa application centre where you need to be present in person for document submission and biometrics. The passport gets submitted at the visa centre and you get it back once a decision on the visa has been made.
How long will it take to get a decision?
While it may vary from case to case, the usual standard time it takes to get a decision after online application and biometric appointment is 3 weeks.
A decision may take longer when additional information is required by the concerned authorities to process the application.
The current waiting periods are reflected in the official website and it is best to check there to get a fair idea and plan further.
